TRU doesn't understand 'clearance'

CAGiversary!
Ok... just a quick story that I found bizarre.

I was in the local TRU on Wednesday and saw both the official 360 component and S-video cables clearanced at $9.98. They had the clearance signs up and everything.

So, I go back this morning to purchase the component cables... and discover that they've reorganized the shelves, so it took me a minute to find the cables. Now, they had two racks of S-video, still marked as $9.98. I look through them, and find ONE component set left, so I pick it up and take it to the register.

Now, there was NO LONGER a tag or space for the component cables, so that may be important.

Anyway, the woman rings me up... and they come up as $29.99. I tell her about the clearance and, surprise, because there's no longer a tag or spot for the component cables, the $29.99 stands.

Here's the thing... TRU.com... which I realize is different, ALSO has the component cables clearanced for $9.98.

So... anyone have the slightest clue what happened? How in two days something goes from clearanced with 6 units left, to only one on the pegs and ringing up at full price? I even called TRU corporate, and this confused even them.

And, before anyone goes 'you were confused', I guarantee that there were TWO PEGS of cables, one s-video, one component on Wednesday and BOTH were marked with huge clearance tags bearing the corresponding cables. You'll have to trust me on that, but I even had someone with me that confirmed to me this morning that that's what was there and that I wasn't crazy.

I'm just baffled by the whole thing.

Either A) someone mismarked them and they realized their mistake or B) someone is copying off of Kmart as others stated some clearance titles were ringing up higher prices again or C) you imagined the whole thing?

I'm leaning towards A though, someone probably mismarked them or THOUGHT they mismarked them and repriced them in the system.

Either way, this is why you don't procrastinate when you see a deal you want. You gotta grab it the first time ya see it, since you never know when some crap like this will happen.

See... that first response was EXACTLY what I expected someone to say and, thankfully, the second response already answered that.

I assume 'clearance' means it remains that price or lower until it's gone.

Anyway... I know I should've jumped on it, and I'm sort of pissed that I didn't.

I was running with the idea of 'mistake', but then the website had the same clearance price for them. And, as a rule, I've found that CLEARANCE TRU items do generally corresponded to the website, or at least all of the ones I've checked in the past few months.

Like I said, not a big deal, I just figured I'd see if anyone else has seen this happen.

All was read and understood, my point that I was trying to make and it was without sarcasm was that prices change no matter the circumstance,

You know, that set of Components was in the wrong spot for weeks, sitting on the S-Video Clearance Peg. Both pegs have been S-Video Clearance for awhile now. I don't think our TRU actually had those on clearance to begin with. Even still, there was no peg for the component.

Mispricing at that TRU is far too common. In the two years I worked there, there were countless times I found mismarked items, (that the managers/assistant managers did).

Honestly, you're likely right, but... like I said, I could have sworn (and so did my buddy) that the one peg said component specifically on Wednesday. That was also underlined by the fact that, at least 2 days ago, each full peg only had s-video or component, not a mixture.

The other thing is that on Wednesday there were at least 5 sets of component cables, and today there was only one. I can't believe that 4 people came in and bought sets at $29.99 in the past two days, you know? I don't know, they also completely reorganized the aisle since Wednesday, too, so maybe that had something to do with it. It's still strange, though, since that means they either sold 4 sets in two days, or just kept them in the back after the reorganization, neither of which really make sense to me. Ah well, these things happen.

In the end, it's not a big deal, since I had snagged an off-brand set for $5 a month or two ago, just would've been nice to get an official set. Plus, I had the utter amazement that the woman working the register actually knew and understood the different types of cables.

Really? I was like the only go-to person when it came to videogame stuff. Looks like they may have found a suitable replacement for me, finally. :D

They may have realized the misprice on the cables and only left one on the floor, being $29.99. The old rule used to be that anything $25+ belongs in the glass case, but they may have to had to change that now that they sell all that other electronics crap now. So they're limiting quantities of 'higher price' items on the floor.
