Trying to use my GS $10off coupon code

A while back GS offered some $10 off codes for buying or pre-ordering certain games. Alan Wake and RDR I believe. Anyways I have one of these codes left but I have been having trouble using it. I think it is supposed to be for an online order but sometimes even when I go to order online it won't accept the code, or it will magically dissapear.

For example I tried to preorder Okamiden which at $10 off would be $20. I can add the game to my cart and type in the code at which point the savings is reflected and a total of $19.99 shows up. But when I get to the end of the checkout the discount has disappeared and the total is $29.99 again. If I back out and try to re-enter the code it does not take. But if I empty the cart and start over I can get the discount to show up again, but if I try to checkout the discount disappears like before.

What am I missing (other than the fact that GS sucks)? Is there some special condition on the code that I am not aware of (for example no preorders)? Can't do in-store pickup on a preorder or something? For others who got these code(s) how did you use them?

I'd just as soon forget about the code but on principle I need to cost GS as much money as I possibly can therefore I can't let them get away with their free code. :) At least I have until 2013 to find a use for this stupid thing.

Just contact the service department. Their codes suck, I earned 4 (used 1) and none of them worked. Had to get someone to look into it and then they told me if the others don't work to contact them again.

Dunno about PO's. Honestly GS isn't the best place for orders since other sites have better deals. If you order from the Capcom store you can get a Chibiterasu plush keychain. Must have.

Actually I wanted to preorder from GS if anywhere because I would rather have the stylus than the plush. Just personal preference. As an aside, do you have to select in-store pickup in order to get the bonus? Or will they ship the bonus stylus to you along with the game if you choose that method?

I totally agree about GS though. I honestly have trouble imagining how anyone benefits from using EDGE. I did the math and found that I shop at GS so rarely that it is a better deal for me to just pay full price for whatever there as opposed to $15 per year for the EDGE card + discount. Maybe it's that I don't buy used games, nor trade them in at GS for their terrible trade-in rates.

If I remember correctly Gamestop changed the expiration date on many of these codes a while ago. How do I know this? My code I got for pre-ordering Red Dead Redemption online that originally was going to expire in 2012 or 2013 was changed to expire Dec 31st 2010.:bomb:

So that may be what happened here as well.

Can they fuck people's codes like that? I also got a code from the RDR preorder and it is supposed to expire on 4/28/20013 according to the original email. Did/do they honor the discount still?

They offer a stylus? Huh. I like something more decorative. The DS already has a stylus ya know?

Anyway there was a time when I made good use of the discount. Now you find so many stores have specials or discounts on NEW games that are often priced better than GS's used prices. Like you, I don't know if it's worth paying for the card next time. Could do without the mag, I already get 2 each month and really don't need anything about phones, movies, or 360. As a collector nothing gets traded in. GS is going to have to compete on new games too if they hope to survive.

Yes they can apparently. My code was also set to expire with that majorly typo'd expiration date, but they switched it to the end of last year. I just let it go since I found out about my perma-ban from all GS stores right towards the end of the year, though I was looking for a couple items to equal up to just about $10 so I could use up JUST the code and not have to spend anything over it.

Unfortunately shipping was not covered by the code, so I would've had to give them $3-4 in shipping costs for two pairs of those real triggers for the Dual Shock 3 so I offered the code up to people in a group I'm in but no one there used it either.

But whereas I might use the stylus just for fun to play Okami, I would likely never use the plush.

I agree with you on the EDGE card. I suppose it may work out for some (namely those who trade in a lot and buy used games) but I rarely, rarely, rarely trade in games and also I never buy used (especially from GS) either because they don't guarantee completness/quality and also it's just a terrible value. I've managed to do quite well with goozex though on used games, I have obtained quite a number of rare games "free of charge" by being patient (ICO, Tetris DS, Zelda LTTP for GBA, Psychonauts for Xbox, Dreamfall for xbox, Eternal Darkness for GC, Halo Wars CE, etc). And they have all been in excellent condition, sometimes I just replace the case for a new one and it looks mint.

The previous $10 promo code I got and used actually worked out pretty well. There was some sale back a while ago when they dropped FO3:GOTY to like 29.99 or something like that, and I used my $10 code to get it for $20. That was a good deal. BTW I think SAVER stacks with the promo codes so you can still get free shipping because IIRC I did not have to pay shipping on my order either.

Anyways I called GS and explained my situation, the rep was actually quite helpful and offered me an alternative code to try. When that did not work he just manually put in the order for me (preorder of Okamiden) and discounted it $10 off. The only outstanding issue is that he said he emailed me a confirmation of the order but I have not received any email like that so far, and this was >1 day ago. He told me the conf. code on the phone so I might need to call again to confirm the order and the price.

I am almost afraid to say that this seems rife with the potential for abuse. I never had to actually tell him the code I was trying to use, only said it was a $10 promo code I got a while back for preordering RDR (which it was). I could have just as easily lied about having the promo code and it seems like he would have offered the discount anyways.

Also has anyone ever seen GS sell the 1600 point cards online? I initially tried to use my $10 code to get 1600XBL points but they don't seem to be able to apply that to the digital purchase. He said they do offer the 1600point cards though and that they were just out of stock. If they come back in stock later, that's a great way to get 50% off on XBL points.
