No, no, and I don't drink scotch. I recommend Patron Silver if you like Tequila, and Tito's Handmade Vodka if you drink it straight.

Personally, I'd just recommend a nice bottle of Irish Whiskey: Jameson (not the 12 year, though) or Black Bush. Tullamore Dew gets the job done, but like you said, you want expensive.

Aren't you 14 or something?

Don't know too much about anything thats not beer...and Magic Hat #9 is the best Beer I've ever had. At 28.00 a case it is high class to a college student!

Read up on the brands you're interested in. If it's top shelf stuff, reading reviews will let you know if you're buying something worth tasting by itself, or if you're paying $30 for a fancy bottle (which is precisely how I feel about most of the vodkas people recommend). Grey Goose is fantastic vodka, but Tito's is cleaner, smoother, and $16 a fifth. It's no contest, IMO.

Also, if you're paying under $6-9 for a fifth of liquor, chances are it's not something you want to drink straight.

I suppose that's high class - the Stone Brewery's Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale is $18/6 pack, but I don't have the palate for that drink.

 He didn't say he drank it, though...

Thread tagged for my own benefit... in case I can get someone to go buy some booze one of these days. ;)

I used iced tea as a chaser. Worked pretty well.

Bourbon - Makers Mark
Scotch - for the money Johnny Walker Black

Good Vodka can be imbibed straight, just put it in the freezer for a while and drink it in shots.

Blue>>>>>>>Black ;)

Only if your status matters. Otherwise, all Walker tastes like peat moss, $175/bottle or not. It's pretty mediocre scotch, so the only benefit of emptying your wallet for a bottle of booze you'll only drink 1 oz of is so you can impress others with having drank it.

It reminds me of a saying my friend had about wine (and it applies to spirits, too): finding a fantastic $100 bottle of wine is easy; finding a fantastic $10 bottle is what separates the experts from the assholes.

(I'm paraphrasing in a way only I can).

I usually find more expensive wine to taste better. Although cheaper kosher wine is delicious. Tastes like a wine cooler.

It doesn't surprise me that you have expensive tastes. I bet, however, that if I put up four glasses of random beverages (of the same kind) in front of you, nine times out of ten you'd pick something that wasn't expensive. What I'm saying is that you strike me as the kind of person who likes the status associated with having expensive tastes, rather than working on developing a palate of your own. You surely assume "$$$" = "Good," and you assume incorrectly.

You reinforce that point by making the dunderheaded claim that wine coolers taste good. That's like trying to say putting a Jolly Rancher Candy in your Zima is awesome.

ameretto (sp) is that drank straight or with something? shots?

tequila is for shots right? ive stayed away since all the stories of feet ive heard involving tequila

Amaretto is usually to be mixed, it's pretty sweet.

I'd recommed some Grey Goose, Crown Royal, Hennesy, or Patron. =)

What makes you say that?
Also, what's wrong with wine coolers? They arent manly? BFD.

Patron Silver. $50 a bottle but you've never had smoother tequila. It sits pretty light in your stomach, so you'll have a lot of energy when you're trashed.

I don't "follow" a lot of CAG in terms of remembering character traits, but you're an exception; my wife wants a BU hoodie b/c she loves Boston Terriers, so, as a consequence, I tend to notice your avatar over others.

That said, I can't put my finger on what other thread you mentioned this in, but it was just this "spare no expense and buy the top-dollar stuff" kind of crap that comes from a rich kid who respects the status that something like Johnny Blue Label brings, but honest to god couldn't taste the difference between that and a $2 bottle of whatever bumjug booze you could conjure up.

Again, yes, Johhny Blue is fine; for your dollar, however, there are better scotches out there. You're not alone in this; take, for example, my contention on page 1 that good booze is good booze, but oftentimes people mistake the "expensive + cool bottle" formula for being a good spirit. Sure enough, two posts later, someone puts up a photo of a bottle of vodka shaped like a pocket pussy. Who's to say it's good? Why turn away from an ugly-looking bottle of *stellar* $16 vodka that can give all your fancy bottle bullshit a run for its money?

Are we not also cheap-ass-drinkers? If you want to shell out for expensive stuff, Blue Label is pretty middle-class, IMO. There are dozens of $1000+ bottles of booze out there, so if the price on the bottle matters more than what's inside, then I recommend you check out the lock box at your local liquor store. The people who buy that shit could run Blue Label through their fucking bidets, it's so common by comparison.

And...ultimately, Walker is highly overrated scotch, IMO. As I said, I'm not a scotch drinker, but Glenlivet is a mighty fine scotch (lotsa earthy flavors without tasting like Walker's literal dirt essence). And, for God's sake, stay away from Dewar's; that shit tastes as if a dwarf chain-smoked 50-cent cigars in the cask while it aged. Worst booze ever (that's perhaps an exaggeration).

Wow, ummm you got me to a T I guess...But no, I'm really not as much of an elitist as I may come off as. I'd guess you've never been to Long Island before. As for alcohol, i'm hardly a connoisseur when it comes to alcohol. I guess I just tend to like what my parents like, which makes sense because I despise beer.

Patron is good, but I still enjoy Don Julio for tequila.

Precis and Original Polish vodka can be drank straight.....or with a twist of lemon in it.
Patron is over-rated.
Why in the hell are you recommending an absinthe instead of a tequila superior to Patron?

I can't drink vodka straight anymore. Same with gin.
It looks like a giant bong =/
It IS from Holland ;)

Grey Goose... I like Hypnotiqe but it's kinda cheap. Try cristale'?
thumb_cristal.gif

It's a brut which means it's nice n' dry... but I also like Asti... it's very sweet.

You never said if it had to be good or not.

My favorite liquor is Makers Mark it has woody, carmel, vanilla, pepper, spice flavor. At $30+ a bottle thats expensive to me, but not overpriced. Overpriced to me is a bottle of $3,000 Johnnie Walker. I like to try different liquors when I can afford. But when it comes down to it I'm a Whisky/Burbon person.

Gin (which no one gave love to) Beefeaters ($30), Bombay ($40)

Tequila- I don't drink but my sister says Patron ($60) is good and smooth. She only drinks Teq.

Vodka - Belvedere ($40)

Whisky/Burbon - Bookers bourbon single barrel ($70) Makers Mark ($30) Hell if your lonely or your paycheck is late. Jack like a good friend is always there for you.

Courvoisier/ Cognac - Courvoisier XO Imperial ($160) Voted best Cognac in the world. I've have yet to try it.
Hennessy XO Cognac ($180) Same as above supposed to be very good but I have yet to try it.

Rum- To my knowledge there are no expensive rums cause you take molasses and ferment it. The most I've seen a bottle of rum go for is $25. If I drink rum I prefer darker aged rums.

I'll second the suggestion of Grey Goose vodka... It's one of the absolute best vodkas I've tasted. If you're trying to impress a chick, you might consider Hpnotiq, too. It's a blue colored beverage that tastes kind of sweet. It mixes well with a lot of other drinks, and girls love the blue color.

This is very true. *sexism alert* Women generally like softer drinks. Strippers love Hpnotiq.
