Ubisoft Apologizes for crappy Wii games!

Scrubking

CAGiversary!
In an interview with leading German news magazine Spiegel, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and European head Alain Corre admitted that the publisher was too quick to rush these titles to the market.

"We made mistakes," they told the magazine. According to Spiegel, Ubisoft wanted to be first to capitalize on Wii and in its haste to release product it sacrificed the quality of the titles. Ubisoft has reportedly learned from its mistakes, though, and is promising that the quality of its forthcoming Wii projects will be significantly better.

Wow...
Read that a few minutes ago... still not sure if I'm surprised or not that they admitted this.
I'm not it's basically:

"We got your $$$ suckers and now we'll apologize and say our future games won't suck so bad so we can get more of your $$$."

I liked Red Steel, even though it had it's flaws, but yes it could of been better like most of the Wii games thus far. Never tried Far Cry, or any other Ubi game on the Wii. Now for a company to admit that, well it does take something to say yes we made crap that you bought, but of course because it was only a publicity stunt and nothing else (we all know they didn't mean it they just said it to cover their asses) it loses all of it's credibility in my mind. Although I am glad to hear better games, now just make some M rated titles or non minigame collection, thanks.
I do not accept the apology. I do however want other companies to apologize for things as a new trend.
Here is the problem though, some company could make 18,000 bad games and apologize and promise to make better games. When you apologize you should promise to not only make better games but to not make crap that you previously made. So all those nice movie games, yeah when you promise you promise to make them not suck and your other games. An apology should be something a company uses like a get out of jail free card, but if they fuck up again they will be in some deep shit with their fanbase.

How about a rebate for everyone that bought their games at full price?

Like if the company that actually printed the discs misspelled the names and was like "We're sorry, we gave you crappy discs", Ubisoft wouldn't be pissed and ask for a refund or something?

Jesus you guys are acting like such little bitches. Name the last time a gaming company out and out just said I'm sorry to gamers? I appreciate the fact that they owned up and I think the ports will stop. If they don't, then they spewed some bullshit, but honestly I think we'll see where they're going at E3 (along with Red Steel 2).

I can't wait for the next apology.

Red STeel could have been great if they would have held back 6 months.

Ubi grabbed for the quick cash. It will probably hurt them in the future on the Wii too. ONe reason Nintendo is so successful is they almost always delay a game instead of releasing a half-ass one. That's why they have alot of loyal followers.

Ubi though? When the next RS comes up less people will take the chance because they got burned with the first. NOt that RS was that bad. I actually liked it, but I had to look through the shtty frame rate and rough spots to see it. I was alittle more forgiving last time around. Subconsciously I wouldn't be so generous this time around. I'm gunshy about the next batch of Ubi games.

Quite a few companies, Like Bungie for Halo 2 a few months ago, but usually years after the fact so they don't get as burned.

Anyway, admmiting you screwed the people who bought your game is meaningless to me unless you make it up to them, and no I don't mean better games down the road. How about a partial refund or discount on future games?

C'mon, Red Steel was not that bad, especially if you like last generation FPS games like No One Lives Forever or any of the James Bond series on the PS2. And Manhunt gets a bad rap, in my opinion. I just started playing this game and the controls are great. Although the control scheme is the same as Red Steel, they play differently and Manhunt is superior. And although the cut scenes in Manhunt are laughable and the game could have been tweaked and polished much more than it was, the gameplay is engaging and well worth it's current $20 pricetag.

Put the apology on hold, make games that aren't clearly cash grabs (and price those that are more in line with Resident Evil 4 Wii), and then we'll talk.

In the meantime, I don't think this is anything more than a ruse to get Wii owners to think their upcoming titles aren't cash grabs, which will net them larger sales.

Well I enjoyed Rayman. The only PROBLEM with that game was the $50 price tag, but it's a good fun game.

Though Far Cry..Red Steel...sigh.

I really hope you are not comparing RS to the PC version of NOLF. I really hope so...

Anyway, RS was a bad game. Let me give you a quick list of some of the things that were bad about it.

- Obtuse menus
- subtitles didn't sync with dialog
- couldn't run
- "lock on" feature didn't lock on to anything or anybody
- enemies could hit you with the accuracy of an elite sniper from anywhere with any weapon even while you were hiding behind something

- health system which forced you to take cover felt forced and contrived
- enemy ai was a joke
- putting your AK away to honorably fight someone with a sword was a joke
- sword fights were robotic, stiff, and repetative
- controls were good for some things, spotty for others
- did I mention that enemies could snipe you from half a mile away with a hand gun?

RS was plainly rushed to meet the Wii launch deadline. It had some good ideas and could be mildly entertaining, but everything was just thrown together half-assed.

Gotta love the French. I dont think an American developer would ever say something like that. lol

I never played Red Steel, but Raving Rabbids was fantastic for a launch game. It was loads of fun, used the wiimote in many different ways... how much do you want out of a launch game? In hindsight, very few launch games are worth the full retail price you pay for them at launch.

I like Ubisoft and will continue to support them and buy their games...if they are good.

Peter Molyneux of Lionhead just recently apologized for Black and White 2.

It is not too rare to hear "sorry, we screwed up, keep buying our shit" from developers. Publishers... that's kind of another story altogether.

I forgive them because they did Beyond Good & EVil.

"Me and Christophe are working together to see if this could be possible...so maybe."
(Michel Ancel, answering a question regarding possible development of Beyond Good & Evil 2. LINK)

I guess the fact that Ancel is the creator and designer of Rayman makes it less impressive that UbiSoft did not sack him for the financial dissapointment that was Beyond Good & Evil. If there is a new one coming, though, I'm going to get it the day it's out, rather than discovering the title "accidentally" as was the case with the first one.

I agree.

Rayman was the first game I played through on the Wii. It was a tad short, but other than that it was a fantastic game. Its still fun to pop in from time to time and shoot some bunnies.

Seeing as how bad their games have been, significantly improved quality will probably mean their games will move from an 'F' to an 'F+'.

Ubisoft can suck my nuts... until they deliver BG&E 2.

Too bad people blindly buy their stuff. I mean, my friend bought Rival Swords for Wii and I couldn't stress how stupid of a decision that was. Buy Two Thrones for around $10 or buy Rival Swords for $50. What a hard choice.

Link, please!

Peter Molyneux seems to apology for every game he makes - first Black and White, then Fable, now Black and White 2.

I wonder if he ever apologized for The Movies

He should just issue an apology for Fable 2 now and spare us the wait.

Why would he apologize for Black and White one AND two? Did those games not get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most advanced AI ever developed? And were they not critically praised? And did they not KICK ASS?

Seriously though, Fable definitely deserves an explaination. But what really gets my goat is the cancellation of B.C.....WHY MOLYNEUX!!! A game about the development of a species played out as an action-strategy game. A fully-developed fire system ala Mercenaries 2. A huge prehistoric world in which your competetor tribe of monkeys is constantly advancing just as you are. Said to be the most violent game ever made at the time. And fucking DINOSAURS! What could have gone wrong?
Unrelated, but Shinji Mikami did apolegize for RE4 being ported to the PS2, though he did quit over it.
I still want his head. He has dishonored his family!

I'm not saying we should automatically assume Ubi games on the Wii are all going to be stellar because, you know, they admitted they've been putting out crap ... but shit, people, at least they supported the console when there was no indicator that it was going to be a gangbuster success.

Here ya go.

His games are guaranteed to dissapoint.

Apologies are fine, but they should be offering a fixed version of Rayman Raving Rabbids. Since it was rushed for the Wii launch, it wasn't fully tested and Score Mode is impossible to complete. Even in the new shipments the game is still broken.

There are 5 or 6 events that cannot reach 1000/1000, and a 10 event Challenge that can never be unlocked. So, you can only get 11 of the 12 bonus videos.

I think Sprung for the DS was also impossible to complete and they never offered a fix for that either. They should have learned their lesson after shipping an early DS game that couldn't be finished.

The Crotch obviously missed the "Seriously, though" part of the supershammy's post.

Supershammy took sarcasm to such heights, that not even Stephen Colbert could touch him. Ouch.

ROFL

In the same article where he regrets Black and White 2, he's already started hyping Fable 2.

Oh Peter, you will never learn. Just apologize for Fable 2 and be done with it.
Jesus you guys are acting like such little bitches. Name the last time a gaming company out and out just said I'm sorry to gamers?
Microsoft did for Fable and for Halo 2.

Nintendo did for Star Fox Assault and for Cruise'N USA on the N64, games they didn't even make.

Acclaim, the biggest scumbags in the industry until they went belly up, did so for the next-gen Turok (The PS2/GCN one)

I have to admit though, this is the first time anyone has done so for a whole load of games such as Ubi has done right now. They must have figured that all the bad games has damaged their rep (which honestly, doesn't bother me. I actually enjoyed a couple of the 'crap games' they made... that said Red Steel was the first video game that made me throw up and I'll never forgive them for that).

I'm still waiting on my apology for having Starforce on my copy of Silent Hunter III!

I gotta agree though.. it's nice that they are actually trying to look like they give a damn. Has EA apologized for slapping a new roster and taking away features from their franchise games, and reaping millions without the common courtesy of a reacharound? Didn't think so...
So... when is Sony going to apologize for the PS3? ;)
Probably whenever those games will stop selling like crazy. Yes, I said it: "crazy," especially when we consider the all-around half-assed production, and cheap design all around.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is still in the Top 10 of all Wii games released in my opinion. Too bad it's so short.

I wonder if these more quality titles include Prince of Persia Rival Swords for $50. If they did, I'm not very optimistic. Maybe they're being genuine since EA is basically throwing down the gauntlet with quality Wii titles and online play.
