Unfathomable good luck with Gamefly...

CAGiversary!
OK, so someone explain this to me. I rent from Gamefly which is based out of Los Angeles, and I am all the way in Baton Rouge, LA. It usually takes 4 days to ship, which is fine. For some reason, I rented 2 games on Saturday morning...and they came here today....yes TODAY, more or less one day. So anyone want to explain how the hell this happened? I called Gamefly customer support and they do not even know what the hell occurred...

um, the post office is screwy I sent 2 packages one to AR (1st class mail) and 1 (priority mail) to boston I live in ohio, the person in AR already recived theres. but the boston has not.

Shipping can definitely be screwy. We mailed a cd out to someone from ebay and he posted feedback the next day! He had received that morning, less than 24 hours after we shipped it. It's nice when stuff shows up early--except for bills...

Unfathomable good luck with Gamefly indeed. If they were faster, I would of kept them. I was on a Monday to Saturday cycle for 2 games - hardly worth $22 a month. Getting a game on Friday would be ideal... not Saturday when half your weekend is gone. I'd usually praise Netflix again for their speedy, "why can't others ship this fast" Monday to Wednesday cycle, as I do in all my anti-Gamefly posts, but those bastards just started delaying shipments to me to slow down my rentals (I'm averaging 15 a month... er, was averaging). I thought it was odd, until I hit up google and see I'm not alone.

Perhaps it's time to give Walmarts service a shot. Or maybe give the Phantom a go -yeah!

I would just get the Movie Pass or Game Pass at Blockbuster. Movie Pass is 25 a month, 2 out at a time and no due dates or anythiing like that...and that way you don't have to wait. Immediate satisfaction.

I'm actually rather impressed with the Postal Service's performance overall. Even media mail generally doesn't take more than a couple days, and I've been getting one-day shipments to/from Netflix.
I agree, Monday to Saturday is not worth any money at all, unless you could mark a game 'Sent back' and they'd immediately ship you the next one. Which of course they won't do.
For me, I could deal with a couple days shipment time, because BB's selection is not good enough for me, and I rarely get the chance/time to watch/play something as soon as I get it anyway.
They can slow down on the bills, though, and speed up my reimbursement checks, I wouldn't mind that.

I think USPS's mailing speed depends on how much mail they have to deliver and the distance. Last week I'm getting my games from gamefly in two days (getting 5 games from Tue to Sat) but I live very close to them. I think the mailing speed is slower when there is a holiday or Sunday. Last time when I mail back my games on July 5 it took four days to get my next games from gamefly. I was suppose to get a game yesterday (Monday) using the two days delivery rate, but I think because of Sunday I'm not getting it until today (Tue).

I like online game rental because the selection is very good. My blockbuster doesn't have old games. But I like the movie rental pass at blockbuster for $25. If I get that movie pass this summer I could watch a lot of movies (60+ if I get 2 movies per day). Can I rent both VHS and DVD with Blockbuster's $25 movie pass?

Gamefly does not purposefully slow down your rentals. I've used them for many moions now and still have no problem. The problem is.. Netflix has warehouses all over the country, Gamefly is currently only shipping out of California. If Gamefly would just open an east coast warehouse and maybe one somewhere mid-country.. the shipping time would be much faster.

Hopefully gamefly can open more warehouses in different location in the future when they make more money (but since I live in CA I don't really care). I'm on the 30 days trial with gamefly now and I'm pretty happy with their service.

Cornfedwb: I was referring to Netflix, not Gamefly in regards to delaying rentals. There's no way I can get 15 games a month with Gamefly. I live closer to Gameflys West coast ditribution center than I do to Netflix's, yet Gamefly takes longer. If Gamefly speeds up their shipping, I would sign up again.

I also checked out Blockbusters Flip Pass as a replacement for Gamefly. Problem is, Blockbusters selection sucks - and I went to a popular blockbuster in an upscale area. I've also heard rumors about the Flip Pass and their Movie Rental Pass being locked to that particular store you got it at - any truth to this?

I joined Blockbuster's $20 game rental pass for one month once and it can only be used at that store I signed up. I think it is probably true that both game pass and movie pass are "being locked to that particular store you got it at".

Trippy - this is the first time I've heard anything like this. I average 15-20 per month I would say and I've never had any problems. I live pretty close to one of their West Coast warehouses and I always get whatever they ship the after I get their notification, without fail.

Gamefly on the other hand - I know they only have the one warehouse but 1st class mail from WA to CA is supposed to take 3 days - MAX. It seems like I'm usually waiting 5 either way with them...I'm thinking about cancelling just for that reason. I only do one game a month and if I get something that's crappy...that means 1/3 of the month is eaten up waiting for it and then sending it right back. Bummer.
