Didnt quite see this posted in the forums so I decided to throw this in. I was around 14th st. last night and I noticed there was a sign outside of it that said Store Closing I went in to check it out and all the video games and video game accessories were on sale. All the games and accessories are 20% off. All the guides and magazines are 40% off. There were still alot of good titles left for all systems when I left.

A sad day for sure. I cleaned house there last summer when TRU had their 50% clearance sale. See, I leave NYC and look what happens... :(

Did they mention when the store was actually closing? $40 for a new game is still to much for me to shell out...are there any good sales this week for TRU?

i went today its all crap. they dont have that 70%off green tag anymore. i asked. they too lazy to open up the cases and check prices. the lady asked one of the guy workers and tell them the prices. im waiting for higher percentage then i go pick up some games.

i never liked that TRU much anyways, it's always a mess, and if you stand there and just peer the shelves behind the counter, they give you a snippy attitude and tell you the games on the shelves are on the racks.

I work at a TRU in Vegas and I worked at a video game store before this and I now work in the "R" zone and I keeps it cleen yo. But to the point. At TRU we don't really get all of the games that come out. Especially anything that's 29.99 or under at original release price. Our TRU is doing really well in out region so hopefully it won't be one that closes down but you always have that feeling that it's just a matter of time before it does. Like a really old dude that smokes and drinks hard liquor. You know he's going to die sooner or later.

Didn't they announce that most TRU locations would either be closed or converted to a Babies R Us? I did notice a billboard for a grocery store (I think in Fort Myers, FL) that stated they have a TRU aisle... they may be going to a shop within a store format like Apple and CompUSA did together.

All I have to say is that if TRU does go away it will be a sad day, I still don't want to grow-up!

If its a location that is closing, then the employees are just there for a paycheck until they find a new job or waiting to be laid off to collect unemployment. they won't be too concerned with helping customers. I'm surprise that TRU dose not just sell the stock to a liquaditor and walk away from the building.

before anyone go there. the discount does not apply on systems. so no xbox, ps2, or gc consoles. not even GBA sp or DS. well they all sold out anyway. i saw lots of SP. i was looking for Mario 64 DS but they dont have it. i see tons of Feel the Magic and some Urbz. i saw 3 copies of spiderman ds. 20% off on games, 30% off on VG accessories. 40% on VG books or guides.

Nah these workers gave a damn about doing their jobs for god knows what reason. I went to 2 cashiers inquiring about the green tag system and it seemed like news to them. I had like a huge stack of games with green tags with me and not a single one got checked out at 70% off. I was told that it had something to do with the store closing and liquidating stock. I mean, if they kept the green tag thing going, wouldn't they clear this stock quicker?

What I got out of this: Tenchu for X-Box: $5.98
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault X-Box: $7.50

anything else from this sale would be uncivilized and that's saying alot. This sale was crap

i know right. the 70% off makes it quicker to clear things out. they guy told me about the green tag thing. he said the promotion is gone when stores are closing. weird stuff. i was about to get that last golden sun.

there turning that TRU into a babys r us cause there isnt any in manhattan . all the other boroughs have one I think

whens it closing exaclty i wanna go check it out. even though you guys have found crap. any new releases there?

I went there yesterday unless u want toys for cheap dont even bother nuttin is really worth it there , they still have no games but theres not much of a discount. plus u have to fight off the lines too.
I was told that it had something to do with the store closing and liquidating stock.
ahhh. It might not be a Toys R Us anymore... was the receipt a toys r us one? If they liquidated, then a third party comes in and buys the stock for say 30 cents on the dollar and then they take over everything; payroll, rent, etc. until they sell everything. They may keep the name on the building, same thing happend when Computer City got bought out.
my old high school is around there washington irving got kicked out and now in a diffrent school
how and why u get kicked? i know that school is bad. taht school is like filled with bad ppl. they do crazy things.

went to the TRU today, games are now 25%, it's still not worth getting anything, going to check every week to see if they drop the %s anymore before i buy anything there.

they still have some decent games at full price, but i'm sure if you wait long enough it'll be around the 'clearance' price anyways

Went there today. Games are now 30% off, accessories/guides are 50% off.

I got Alien Hominid for the GC, before noticing that it was priced at $32.99 ($3 above MSRP). Ah well, it was still cheaper than buying it at Best Buy with a GGC. I haven't even seen it there, actually...

Did you notice if they had any xbox lcd screens for 50% off?

stores always jack up the prices when they're jacking up the percentages. I remember the wiz did the same shit when they were going outta business. it's like 50 percent offa a launch PS2 title that they're selling for 50 bucks is still 5 bucks more then just buying it as a greatest hit. The only problem with waiting at the TRUS when it hits 50% off most of the good stuff will probably be gone.

I didn't notice LCD screens. Seemed like a lot of GBA accessories.

I think Hominid is just the result of TRU's overzealous pricing. I bet it's the same price in Times Square. Most other games seemed to be the normal 19.99, 29.99 or 49.99.

They do have plenty of other stuff, it's probably worth checking out.

Yeah, the TRUs in Manhattan definitely took advantage of NYC pricing on some games. I've seen some games, that I can't remember now, going for $5 above retail.

Hey ChessPieceFace! How's it going? As you can see I moved from NYC in the fall...and am regretting every minute of it! At least I have an entire house instead of a closet! :p

Just got back. Slim pickings all around; good luck finding any accessories worth owning. Quite a few copies of FF 1 & 2: Dawn of Souls (GBA), though. Comes to $22.80 with tax.

No LCD screens I take it? I'd probably pick up FF if it goes to 50%. Anyone know what day they normally do the extra % drops?

Are you sure? Because last week when I was there, it was 20% off $35 ($28 plus tax). They also had the $35 price tags on the new Hamtaro, F-Zero and Kirby.

Thats right, it will not be a TRU anymore. The TRU logo does appear on the receipt with "liquidation" next to each item name. The store itself won't bear the TRU name. Starting like in February or something, it's going to become a full-fledged Babies R' Us because supposedly that's doing better in business than TRU. It's still going to be owned by the same company but it's just going to be a different store.

The people working there now are not the same people who were working there before christmas last year. In a cold and calculated move, TRU fired (as in receiving pink slips; according to NY Post) 55 employees from this store on the day after Christmas; without letting them know in advance.

That is cold, but it happens all the time. They'll never tell them in advance to reduce the chance of internal theft and people leaving when they still need them to work.

Retail is a tough field to work in, very unstable and no loyality at all.

Just FYI, Babies R Us allegedly did over $1.2 billion in profit last year. How with the management and pricing? I have no idea.

Slim picking is right. Although I did buy Midways' Arcade Hits for $3.84 before tax (not great, but for $4...).

Also, that would be $1.2 billion in sales, not profit. If that were profit, TRU would be huge.

What do you mean, am I sure? Of course I'm sure. I'm holding a copy in my hands. It was 30% off $29.99. They probably marked stuff down further since you were there.

re: the closings, yeah, there have been a lot TRU closings lately. TRU seems to be the latest toy retailer to fall to Wal-Mart. Babies R Us (BRU?) has been contributing the majority of their profits lately, while TRU has been a pretty big liability.

...? I've heard this, but can someone verify this? On another forum I frequent, the poster said that all games there are 30% off, so I'd like to know whether that's true before I make another trip to the city.

I dunno, another poster said he just walked 10 blocks there and got some XBox games, and the original poster said he got Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for $35

all games are 30% off.. but it's still not worth it in my opinion... i'll wait another week till it gets knocked to 40%

Games are now 40% off. Accesories are 60% off. I just went last night and picked up:

Spiderman 2 DS - $23.99
Alien Hominid GCN - $19.70
Pokemon Fire Red GBA w/ Wireless adapter - $21.99
Turok Evolution XBOX - $1.19
Spiderman 2 DVD in Widescreen - $9.99
Nintendo DS Starter Pack (car charger, screen covers, retarctable headphone) - $5.99

Still a few good games left, like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for $29.99 each. There are no more DS games. Plenty of GBA game left though, and lots of $14.99 PS2 games which will ring up at $8.99 a piece.

Board games are also 40% off.

damn no more DS? i was waiting for that to drop. im planning to get the Feel the Magic. i remember i saw tons of them like 2 weeks ago.
