Universal Studios Orlando announces Harry Potter theme park for 2009

There's certainly quite a lot of source material, so I doubt they'll have any trouble filling up the park.
It certainly looks interesting.

Hmm, I never got into the Harry Potter books/movies, but that does look pretty interesting.

Too bad it wasn't a LotR park or perhaps even a Star Wars park. I should send a letter to George Lucas and get to work on building a Star Wars theme park right away, gotta milk what's left in that cow, eh?

So I guess Harry lives in book 7. Though, a Lenin-like glass tomb with a wax corpse in it would be hilarious in its ability to horrify children.

That would only be the best thing ever. Especially if it had motorized parts.

Hmm a whole park about him? I guess maybe it could work. Would probably be pretty cool to go to, at least, judging by those pictures.

Thoughts?
Technically, it's not a full park. Islands of Adventure is divided up into five sections - there's a Marvel section, a Dr. Seuss one, Jurassic Park, a cartoon-themed area (think Popeye and Dudley Do-Right), and a generic fantasy one. Each area's got a few rides and lots of themed scenery and restaurants and the like. I'm assuming that the fantasy area of the park is going to become Potter-centric now.

The plans they've got are a lot bigger than the fantasy area currently is, though, which leads me to wonder if they're going to be expanding physically. :whistle2:k

Ah-ha. Well that makes more sense then. I think if anything the fantasy section would get axed, or made-over. Possibly changing the twin dragon coasters to something Harry related.

The dragons already are Harry related. :)

Makes sense that they would revamp the fantasy area and make it HP themed. The area was kind of random anyways with Sinbad, Poseidon, and medieval wizardy stuff.

Interesting... I first thought it was a full-sized park, to which I thought "Why the hell hasn't anyone yet started on a Nintendo theme park?"

They had better not mess with Dueling Dragons

It has the best queue and I'd hate to see it changed to a Harry Potter theme:

It would be nice to see a new coaster for the park. It would be awesome if they got a B&M hyper like Universal Stuidos Japan got:
That sucks.

I was hoping for the often rumored Simpson's wing.
A Simpson's ride is coming next year. It's replacing Back to the Future

Oh shit really? That is one of the only reasons my parents ever go to Universal anymore is to go on Back to the Future.

Yeah, that was one of my favorite rides (fave movie too :) ). I was pretty sad when I found out it was closing.

I'm definitely excited about the HP park though!

I'm not going to miss it that much. The cars were so cramped and the film was starting to look bad.

Here's what the ride building looks like now:

Interestingly enough, the store is still open. It's not a good year for Orlando motion simulators as Body Wars (and the whole Wonders of Life Pavillion) in EPCOT is also supposedly closed for good. I can understand why though, last time I was there was Christmas week 2006 and there were a total of 5 people on the ride.
