Saw this on FW and signed up this morning using the remains of the old $10 American Express gift card thing someone posted here a long time ago. It worked fine since they only authorize a buck usually......I was previously a member of bb.com under a different email address and credit card, looks like it worked this time as well or at least so far.....

That's a pretty good deal. Anyone else have trouble with them sending you DVDs you never signed up for? Made me stop using them and try Netflix.

Damn I just signed up a week and a half ago and only got 2 weeks free. Oh well.

So far the service has been decent. Turnaround time hasn't been bad since they've been shipping from Atlanta and I'm in Tallahassee. My only complaint is for whatever reason some movies take longer than others, and also one of the DVD's I got was cracked in half. The online DVD issue reporting system seems to work well enough though and they'll resend the movie pretty quickly.

Can the free rental coupons only be redeemed by the person named on it? I gave a random name to rejoin Blockbuster online because they already had me in their database from a different trial. Now this new random name appears on the coupon and I don't know if I can even use it. Anybody know?

Linky? Or is this just a bragging thing ...?

Sorry, I guess I ddin't realize those were codes in the first post. If you put those in in the sign up page you get 4 free weeks eh ?

I assume you can you them, i've never seen anyone read the coupons at BB unless the coupon didn't scan. Even then it's not likely they will reject you..

Coupons say good for any movie...

Yea you use those codes in the gift certificate/coupon field.....
Can those free in store rental coupons they give you be used on new releases ?
Yes. I use them on new releases all the time.
Is this for new members only? I have an old cancelled account, could i just reactivate that with one of the codes?
I had an old cancelled account too and was able to open up a new account by changing my name and using a different credit card.

I changed my name and used a different credit card but it still didnt work...do you think it has something to do with the same address?

I used the exact same address I used before. Try doing it again.

I believe it's based on your email addy.
I believe it's based on your email addy.
I don't think its just that. It took me two tries to get it right and each time I used the same email address (which was different than the email i used in the old account). I think the problem with the first try was that i was using the same exact name I had on the old accound. When i changed the name, it worked just fine.

I'll give this a try later, I could use some free movie rentals since I'm going to be pretty bored this summer.

Thanks $hady!!

I used the same info/card and was denied. Then used just a different email addy and it worked. Although it has been more than 6 mos since I last used BB online.

Why risk waiting until it doesn't work? Just use both at once and coordinate your rentals.

im using a different email address and different card but it says im in the system

the different card obviously has my name on it and they ask for name on card..

what to do now?

edit.. i tried a different name and still nothing...

i think it checks the billing/shipping address

My address was exactly the same in both accounts.

Here were the differences between my old account and my new one: Name (not cardholder name), email, and credit card.

My movies shipped today. :D

I was a member back around Christmas time but cancelled. When I signed up this time I used my first inital only then my last name missing one letter in the middle and then my same address as before, also used a different email account..... BTW I had ALOT more wiggle room with the CC info because of the fact I used the remaining bits of the $10 AMEX card I got from these forums way back when.

The coupons are for movies only now to whoever asked. They stopped being games/movies late last year. :(

if it dont work it dont work. I wasnt planning on going back to blockbuster anyways. I picked up 16 sheets of hollywood video coupons sheets for 75 bucks so i got video rentals free now 2 each weekend till DEc 2007 LOL

I've been with BBO for over a year, and apart from a rough first 3 months [60% of my queue was in "Wait" status], it's been great. I'm old enough that I still get the two-coupons a month, good on movies or games, though my price did go up.
They've got plenty of distro centers.
The one complaint, apart from a general lack of flow in their website, is how they send stuff out.
If the title that is first in your queue, is not available at one of your local distro centers, they don't wait very long before sending you the first title in your queue that is available in your local center. So you're not spending five days waiting for them to find a title, or ship it from CA when you're in NC, but they may send you something that's 3 or 4th on your queue.
It's a balancing act, and it's a choice that, no matter which way they go, some people won't be happy--some people would rather wait four days for whatever's top on their queue, some people would get pissed at feeling 'throttled'. I personally don't mind it too much, I've usually got a movie or two and two or three tv series going at the same time, so I've got a bit of flexibility, but it might be neat if they offered you the option ["Which is your priority, getting your #1 title even if you have to wait, or getting one of your top 3-5 if it means you get a title quicker?"]
On average, I'm getting about a 3 day turnaround, from sticking a disk in my mailbox. B&M isn't really an option for me, I've got 4 BBVs that are pretty convenient, but nothing else except the rentals from the grocery stores; and BBO's inventory beats the crap out of any of the B&ms, including their own.

I've got no complaints with BBO.

Both deals don't work for me. Never been a BB online member, and I've tried three different credit cards on Netflix, and my girlfriend even tried hers.. still can't get it to work. Sucks.

Has anyone had any trouble cancelling their free membership before the month is up? Do you simply cancel through the websites or do you have to call the service numbers?

I did blockbuster online for a referral offer and all I had to do to cancel was click the cancel link under my account. I dunno if they fuck around with the free guys and make them call a number though.

I'll have to see if netflix will work for me.

EDIT: Just signed up for netflix and it worked fine, DVDs free for a month for me. And also it looks like you just have to click a link to cancel just like blockbuster online, so no big deal.

Yay! Got Netflix free for a month, thanks OP! I've been waiting to sign up and get a full month rather than 2 weeks free. Looks like it paid off!

Thanks again!

I meant to add: is it just me or does netflix charge the full amount immediately on your card? I imagine it will go back into my account, but damn I thought they'd do a $1 hold or something.

Thanks for the netflix code too! Man, thanks to you i've got free movies flying outta my ass! Thanks for sharing the codes - you've made my exam time that much more tolerable.

Pics?

any idea when these expire? i'm a current BBO subscriber and would rather wait until around the next billing date (6/19) to cancel my sub and sign up again under my g/f's name for the free month.

or can i cancel now and they refund me for the portion of the month i didn't use?

Don't know if it's just me or for everybody, but on the browse page it said if I add 3 movies to my queue in this visit I get a 14 day extension on my free trial.

they will not refund a portion of your money
does netflix hold your money example..17.99 or does it just do the dollar charge?

If they hold it how long?
I used my paypal card and they charged it for $19.79 for the 3 out at a time, so I guess they hold the full amount (including tax).

Blockbuster.com has to be the most retarded service I've ever used. I rented: Wrestlemania XIX, Star Trek: Generations, and Superman. The only one they got correct was Star Trek: Generations, otherwise, I got: Wrestlemania XX and Superman II. Retards.

lol, I never had that problem, but netflix seems to be much faster than blockbuster (I know there's a closer distribution center but they also ship faster).

Blockbuster is quite fast, at least for me; and they can send rentals from b&M stores as well.
They speed it up, in part, by looking for the first title in your queue, that is available at your nearest distro center, or at a store near you. So, unlike Netflix, you won't wait three days while they look for Hot New Release which is at the top of the queue.
Some people, when they want to watch something, put it at #1 and want *that* title, even if they have to wait. Some people would rather get one of their top 5 titles, if that means they get it three days earlier. It's a tradeoff.

Actually, upon rereading the post, I see that wasn't your problem. I haven't experienced your problem. I've got lots of 'sequels' and 'Disk 4 of 6' on my queue, and only once have they made a mistake like that--and it was Disk 4, in a Disk 3 envelope.
