Javascript and Flash support!

* DS Web Browser offers added functionality to your Nintendo DS
* Blog, check sports scores, and get the latest news in the palm of your hand
* Dual screen offers a much larger portable browing experience than a cell phone or a personal digital assistant
* Customize your experience, disabling images to speed load times and altering the presentation to preserve the original page’s layout or to maximize the screen space and readability on your DS
* Navigation’s a breeze with the touch screen!

Based on the light and lightning-fast Opera browser, the full-featured Nintendo DS Browser includes Javascript and Flash support. You can access the web via your home wireless internet connection or any hot-spot access point.

It looks like that extra time was worth it! I wonder why the original versions couldn’t have this support. Thanks to Arnout for the heads up.

If it can play flash games then Im buying it. Any word on Youtube support? Last I heard the answer was no. But that would be another immediate purchase feature for me.

The people in the comments after the article make some good points. It'll still be crap if it's really slow. And adding flash so websites can launch their 20 flash ads probably won't help the speed. This might be alright for simple stuff like checking e-mail but I don't see it being worth $35 or however much they're charging, especially since the DS doesn't work with the security systems of so many wifi connections and if I'm at home, I'd rather just use the computer.

Pandora doesn't even work on Wii, it uses too much memory, so I don't think there's any chance for it to work on DS. Anyone know how much RAM the DS and Wii each have?

Too late for me. I really wanted this when I first got my DSLite and heard about the Japan and UK versions, but the high cost couldn't be justified for an underpowered browser.

Saved the money and put it towards the PSP since it can surf the internet without the additional software purchase.

The free cost of Wii Opera makes the DS version feel even more ripoffish now.

This is my opinion on the DS Opera browser. I put this in thread a couple weeks ago. I'm lazy, don't feel like typing it again...;)

Honestly, my PSP wasn't a ball of fire when accessing the internet either. Some sites were faster than others, and it wouldn't run all the apps either (from a $300 handheld game).
When you compare the speed of the DS vs. PC (surfing the internet), the DS is definitely going to be slower. I personally don't think that Nintendo designed the DS as an ultra fast web surfing machine. I think the main focus for Nintendo was handheld gaming, with Wi-Fi gaming capabilities, and keeping the price point at a very competitive level. For $129 (before the price drop), having a portable gaming device with touch screen (some voice recognition supported games), and some Wi-Fi capabilities, it's hard to beat the DS. Sure, they could make an ultra-fast web surfing, handheld gaming device, but with a price of $400 to $600. Then how many people would complain about it being way over priced? Nintendo has always kept competitive pricing on handhelds and consoles to reach more households. Why do we think the Wii is outselling the PS3? Yeah, the new controller and the more interactive gaming aspect is cool, but also the fact of $249 vs. $599. I know and have talked to a lot of gamers ranging from hardcore to leisure, and they comment on the price of the Wii, even if they think the PS3 is a ton better.

In my opinon, paying $35 to have some web surfing capabilities on a more strict handheld gaming device isn't too terrible. So, for around $170 (DS plus web browsing) gives you the options to check a sports score, news and weather update, check an email or IM, play some pretty cool games, and have some Wi-Fi gaming capabilities? Not a bad price at all! It gives you one more little thing to do with a $119 handheld. If everyone is worried about speed and what apps it can handle, or videos it can play, then why not buy something a ton more powerful, such as a laptop and spend 8 to 10 times the price of a DS.

That's my uneducated opinion...

Like I said, for the total $$$ of the DS and browser, I think it's not a bad deal.

The Wii has 64 MB of Ram, while the DS has 4 MB (though I believe the DS web browser comes with a GBA sized cart with 10 extra megs of Ram).

^With the extra RAM being removable, do you all think it is possible that there will be larger sized versions in the future?

So yeah, I was thinking about getting a DSLite just for this purpose, and maybe a few games, because it would be awesome to have a handheld internet since I don't have it on my phone.

Being able to play flash games like flash flash revolution or watching youtube videos/gamespot videos of videogames would definitely encourage me to buy one this product and a DSLite. As long as it runs faster than dial-up I'll be happy! :)

I remember hearing people say how nice it was having a broadband adapter for the Dreamcast and not having to worry about viruses since it had such a small amount of memory. Would this be a similar case where I wouldn't have to worry about becoming infected?
