USB thumb drive questions

I have a phat 360 with a 250GB HDD that's almost full of content I want to keep. I don't want to upgrade to a Slim quite yet, so it's USB thumb drive shopping time. I have a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to:

So they upped the 16GB per drive limit to 32GB per drive, right? Does that mean I can have a maximum of 64GB of extra storage across two drives, or is it 32GB total even if I have one drive? Microsoft's support page on USB drives is vague and basically says "fuck off, buy our branded HDD or thumb drive".

Is there a centralized list of compatible drives somewhere? The only ones I could find were from years ago and seemed tiny.

Thanks in advance.

32gb per slot, but it only accepts two slots. I've tried plugging in more, but it never worked for me.

I just wish they'd release a larger HDD.

Some drives are slower than others. The branded ones are guaranteed to be up to spec. But depending on what you will use it for, an out of spec drive can be good enough. I have a 32 GB flash drive that is too slow on writes, but is fine for reads. I use it to hold DLC (songs for RB and Dance Central 3). So it took a while to copy to it, but once there the songs play perfectly fine in the games since it's all reading at that point.
I think I'm going to grab a couple of these since they're low profile/price and have reviews that specifically mention Xbox compatibility.
I believe that is the exact one I have. The Xbox will say it may not perform well or whatever, but the read performance is fine. I don't know that I'd store profiles on it or game saves, but maybe that would be fine. I don't know for sure as I haven't tried it. I only store DLC on mine.
