Used PS3 Pricing

BlueScrote

CAGiversary!
I have been sifting through various prices for the different PS3 SKU's the last couple weeks and I found a craigslist ad that might be worth checking out. It is a 40 gb PS3, with cables and the sixaxis that came with it.

He is asking $300 or b/o. I am going to check it out this weekend, and I was wondering what sort of price would a barebones PS3 package like this go for? If it is still in good condition is it worth the $300? or even more? I still have a working PS2 so the lack of BC doesn't bother me too much.

From the various scavenging I have done online, Similiar 40gb ps3's go for a little bit more on ebay (~320-350). Gamestop is selling refurbed 40 gb SKUs for $350 and refurbed 20 gb for $380.

I am just looking for a bit of input as to whether this is a good deal or rip off, based on what the condition of the console is.

If this is the wrong forum for this let me know, I figured this forum fit the best with my question. Thanks in advance.
the pawn shop near me (a chain) sells 40gbs for $199... that includes all hookups and sixaxis.
DAMN!!!! I wish to fuck we'd get a chain in this area, since the local ones sell PS3's for Gamestop-ish prices($50 less than retail most times) and I think they are 'all sales are FINAL'. So if the thing breaks in a week, you're fucked.

As far as Craigslist goes, I think many people on there DO overprice their stuff. I'd definitely ask to fully test the system at their place(or yours) before buying it and try to get them to do $250 or so for it.

You definitely need to test the following with it though:

PS1 game-any should work, since ALL PS3's play PS1 titles
CD-they also play these, though I think there's some exceptions, like those with videos on them
DVD-standard silver bottom dvd movie
Dual layer DVD-gold bottom dvd

and of course....a PS3 game

Why test all of these? Well, you wouldn't want your used Craigslist PS3 playing ONLY PS1 games and nothing else for $250-300, right?

I'd also check the WiFi and other connection ports if I were you, since any of those could also be burnt out.

You just never know, since some people treat Craigslist like I treat Gamestop and only dump their shit that's about to break on there for some other sucker to deal with. :whistle2:#

If you actually have the extra money though, I'd say to go for a new PS3, since you're just better off not taking a chance on someone else's used stuff. Plus, SonyStyle.com is still currently offering a $150 credit for your first $299 and over purchase, which could make a new $399.99 80 gb PS3 come down to $249.99 or about what this CL PS3 is worth.
