Hi, I just received a box that was damaged and the item I ordered was also damaged. I put insurance on the item and was wondering if anyone every claim so the USPS have to cover the damages and if so what is the process.

Thanks.

i dont know how the USPS works, but i know with Fedex and UPS the shipper needs to file the claim and they are the ones that get the money.

I'd try and return it if possible even at the expense of eating the shipping (unless it was something really cheap.. which I doubt). I absolutely loved and swore by USPS for years until I sent out a package last month priority with signature confirmation. Turns out the recipient wasn't home initially but picked up the package later that day but they never updated the status.. so I had no proof of delivery (and my funds were held in paypal for 3 weeks). I tried calling them but it's a 100% computer operated phone system and couldn't talk to any human USPS employee. Furthermore, when I e-mailed for assistance, I was told only express packages have true tracking implementaion (wtf? DC and signature confirmation don't mean jack?).

I did it once, and it takes a while. Go to http://www.usps.com/ There's an option to file a claim. You'll need proof you paid for insurance. Might be best to ask the sender to file, and just select you get the money back. If successful, you'll get your money back, minus insurance. Expect several weeks to get the claim processed, with no guarantees you'll get your money back.
