Enter in the weight and zip codes and then click "Continue". Be sure to leave the shape and size as "Package". It will show you the calculated costs for the different rates including Media Mail.

I would be pretty surprised if they aren't returned to sender for lack of postage. If you did this a while ago and they actually got to the destination, I'd say you got pretty lucky.

And what sort of bubble mailers are you using that cost more than $3.85 to ship alonzo? That'd mean it was more than 1 pound (for a single game!?)

I once received a package sent via media mail in two days because the USPS e-label was taped onto a Priority box (the ones they give free at the post office). Seems like you can pretty much get away with murder if you print labels online.

You can't use priority boxes for anything else, the post office is supposed to (and as far as I knew always did) reject them. The guy must have got lucky and got someone who didn't care, or wasn't paying attention.
I can't ship a game in a bubble mailer for 3.85 half the time. That can't be right. Though thanks, I didn't see the option for media mail.
Do you see it now?

If you ship games in bubble mailers ( $5 for 25 at Sams club ) it costs under $2 to send a game with box by first class mail with delivery confirmation online.

If it's going to the same coast it will be the same speed as priority, if it goes to another coast it might take 1 or 2 days more.

The onlything you need is a small postal scale.

Remember that anything shipped media mail, they are allowed to inspect, which sucks cause they will break open your package :(

Wait a second, they can break open your mail?! Where does it say that on the USPS website?

What is the best (cheapest) way to send a package with only one game in it? I have to send Sega a game back because it skips and they would replace cause its still under warranty.

If you're sending one game, 1st class is the way to go...alot of the time 1st class is actually cheaper than media mail. (When the weight is so low)

Send media mail is you want your game to get run over, slammed, rained on and arrive 3 weeks later.

Are you a freakin idiot? They can break open any package that comes through...the GOVT owns the damn company. Do airports inspect every luggage throughly? Yes. Then expect the same from Mail.

They can open anything, they just do it 6 times more often through media mail. Not to mention, taping it back up all shitty and letting it get rained on.

I don't know if it says on the site, but they can and do. I have discussed at length with Postal employees and watched them bust into people's packages. Not surprisingly (because they only do it when they're suspicious), there is a very high rate of packages that they confirm are not "media" contents.

Don't get any smart ideas either. It's people like this who have jaded the Postal Service and screwed many of us out here who would like to be able to send video games media. My old Post Office (just moved) got so anal they wouldn't take strategy guides (the obligatory back-page ad for a video game that most guides have counted as "advertising" and disqualified guides from being considered media) and wouldn't take games either. Funny how Gamestop/EBGames are immune to these laws though...

Yeah you can print labels for any value and stick them on your package, but I doubt it'll get to the destination.

The Post Office WILL NOT break open your package. We can ask you to open it yourself to show us if we suspect you are mailing non-media via media mail but opening ANY package is a major no-no for us.

He used a flat rate box. We have one flat rate envelope and 2 flat rate boxes now. The smaller box I think is $3.85 and the new larger one is like $6.85. Sorry if my numbers are a bit off, it's been a while since I worked the window. I usually work in the back. Anyway the way it works is if you use one of the flat rate boxes the fee is the flat rate as long as the box maintains it shape and can be sealed, no matter how much you stuff in it. Up to 70 pounds anyway. The PO will not deliver anything over 70 pounds since employees are not allowed to lift more than that. Also any additional services like insurance or delivery confirmation are extra.

One time at my office we had 52 pounds of materials from some brick company shipping in one of the things. It was a pain to move around but we can't stop them as long as they follow the rules.

I don't think there is a small flat rate box (unless it's new in like the last 2 weeks). I think there is a flat rate envelope that runs $3.85 and two sizes of flat rate boxes that are both $7.70. A PS2, etc would no way fit in the flat rate envelope.

If you read gd's post he seems to be saying he printed a label from the usps.com site for one pound via Priority and then stuck it on a package he knew was more than 1 pound. Bad ethics aside, the USPS should catch that and return to sender. Though apparently they didn't catch the package video_gamer324 received in a Priority box with only Media mail postage. I hope people doing this kind of crap don't cause the USPS to rethink letting home computer user's print postage. Have some integrity people!

I respectfully disagree on media packages :

According to the USPS Domestic Mail Manual, any postal employee can inspect a Media Mail package without customer consent.

http://www.usps.com/mailerscompanion/apr2004/mc0404art6.htm

Mailers should note that the Postal Service may open and inspect Media Mail packages to ensure the contents qualify for Media Mail rates.

Inspect does not mean open. We are not allowed to alter a package or label taken in at the window in any way with or without consumer consent. If the package needs to be altered we are to tell them to do it. Unless the rules have changed since I was trained that was what we were told.

I just looked it up and you are right. The DMM was updated in 2003 with new rules for Media Mail and we now CAN open them. It says open and inspect. Wow.

I was doubting myself on what I had read before, I thought they added regulations to allow that to crack down on Media Mail Fraud.

That beeing said, I've had guides arrive with media mail where the package was clearly opened and resealed.

Very interesting, it always makes me feel kind of violated if someone else is reading my mail ;)

Getting back to the subject, it usually cost me around $2.50 shipped with delivery confirmation to send out 7-8 magazines(which is around the same weight as guides) in a padded envelope. But it does take some time to for the person to receive the package through Media Mail. Most recent incident was one that I sent out on January 10 and the person didn't get it until February 16. So if you don't want to worry about it taking so long, try to get it sent first class.
