CAGiversary!
Has anyone picked this up yet besides me? Just curious if any CAGs were into it or if everyone was into team fortress mostly.

I have it. Lots of fun. Played online for a while and got whooped up. I'm usually on at night. I think we should start a CAG clan, but there'd probably be only a few members.

Yeah I was sort of surprised not to see a thread on the game already. Given that there wasn't its likley that there would be only a very few number of us playing as well. I haven't played it online yet I was trying to get it to run acceptably well on my machine which is a bit on the old side so its mostly been tweak, play looking at fps and smoothness, tweak some more. I finally have it to where I think it runs reasonably well for me though which I'm happy about :).

On my rig, it runs really smooth with texture and world detail at 4. On 5, at least with textures, I didn't really notice a difference. Probably like Doom 3 on high vs. ultra; just less compressed textures. The biggest hurdle for me is the native 1680x1050 resolution of my LCD. Got it running 60 fps nonstop though, Thanks to my 8800GT.

Pretty much a story woven around various matches with bots. From what I've played, it's essentially a story driven tutorial for online play.

yeah thats basically what I've gotten out of it myself. They tacked on a generic war with respawners storyline and made it like a tutorial session. I'm running an ATI 1950 on an agp slot and have to have the textures at like 3 and world textures at like 2 to really get it to run semi good it still varies wildly on me anywhere from 19 fps to 60 given how much rendering is going on. Heavy combats around 19 to 25 usually which isn't good but its playable for me. I'm not one of those who has to have 60fps to run in a game I'd "prefer" it mind you but I don't see myself getting anything more than a stable 25 with my current rig sadly :(.

One of my friends plays it on his laptop that has an X1400. He has it running smoothly, but at 640x480 and 1-1 for settings. Shit looks like Wolfenstein 3D compared to how I run it.

yeah thats kinda how mine looks. I'm overdue for a new PC I just don't have the cash for it with needing to replace a sound system and buy some shelves for the apartment other things are taking priority atm which keeps me mostly poor atm :/.

I've only played like two stages but out of those two the first was a duel, the second was CTF so its not looking hopeful that it will kick into gears of war mode >_>.

I'm definitely getting this but I'm not sure when, since I'm waiting for a couple of friends' computers to catch up. UT2K4 was one of the major reasons I got a PC, so I'm looking forward to playing this to death.
wow.. i thought i read they were going to do a story somewhat like gears of war...
You mean have a lot of interesting back story and details before the game ships and then leave the player totally confused on what he's actually doing?

Seriously, where did Baird get that ball after we came up from the mines?

Hankme, did you play the UT3 demo? Is there a noticeable upgrade from the highest settings in the demo vs the retail game?

Yes, very noticable. Even 4 - 4 in the real game is a decent amount better than 4 - 4 in the demo. Texures are a good amount better, more background detail, etc.

I'm pretty interested in seeing the level of the graphics in the final. I thought the demo looked incredible (aside from maybe a few less-than-perfect textures), and it still ran really smoothly. I sort of wish they hadn't revealed that the demo had a cap on the settings, because now if I can't run the full version at max I'll feel like I'm missing out.

I'll just remind myself that textures any better than the demo's are only useful when I'm standing still.

It's funny. I just put my texture filtering quality to very high in the Nvidia Control Panel, and now the game runs better at max quality than it did with the anisotropic optimizations enabled. I'll take some pics of the game maxed if you want. And yeah, this game is so fast paced that you don't get to enjoy the textures unless you stand still.

Well it seems my 6800gt still has some power in it after all.... I CAN PLAY THIS GAME!!!! I had to turn down some of the graphics but still I am getting I think about 20-26 frames out of this game. A LOT OF DETAIL they put into it. I am getting a minor sensory overload with all that detail they put into it but never the less it works!

OK, here's some pics. The first level is Gateway. It has 3 separate areas, all accessed by using gates within the level. The pictures are resized and compressed, so they aren't the greatest quality.

Here's the first area.

Here's another level, Deimos. It's a space station. It has some low gravity areas, some tubes that have no gravity, and lots of sniping positions.

The meteorites float all around the station.

You can't pass through the green barriers. You can shoot through them, however.

The last level I have pictures of is the Necropolis. It is a vehicle CTF map. It is symmetrical, like most CTF maps. It has a long bridge that connects both flags, with 2 small interior areas in the middle, and a lower level that has some interior areas and sneaky paths to take.

This level has some new vehicles, like the Scavenger. It can jump and roll into a ball to roll over fools.

I played gateway last night I freakin love that lvl! That map just has a ton of stuff going on in it kept me entertained completly I was almost sad to see the match end.

not bad.. nice pics..

heres hoping gogamer has a deal on it soon..

how is this compared to quake wars.. i typically prefer quake but i didnt like the bf style of qw that much..

Based on the demos... this is far faster than QW, and the biggest difference is that this is actually fun.

Seriously, Quake Wars was a huge disappointment. Not fun at all.

the closest thing to the BF type combat you would see would be in the warfare game mode which is a modified version of onslaught from the old UT. Really with so many game types you can't classify it as one thing or antoher I mean it has DeathMatch,Teeam DeathMatch,CTF,Vehicle CTF, Duel and Warfare. With all those game modes there has to be "something" you like the gameplay of if you like FPS's at all. Movement and weapons are classic UT so that doesn't even factor in. I am glad they got rid of the lightning gun and put in the sniper rifle again though the red beam tips you off as to who shot from where but the scope is easier to use than the LG. I will miss the twitching after a headshot from the LG though :(.

I received Quake Wars with my 8800GT. Haven't played it much, but what I've played is pretty much meh. UT3, however, is fast, fun, and addictive. I live for the announcer saying "HEAD SHOT!! I've played some warfare in UT3, and it's like onslaught from 2k4; control the nodes leading to the opposing team's node, then attack it until it blows. I'm more of a fan of mindless deathmatch, but warfare and vehicle CTF are very fun.

As far as I know, no headset support. Haven't tried a gamepad, but it's not Games For Windows certified, so probably not.

I kind of like the more strategy oriented game types like CTF and warfare myself for when I'm playing with enough people. The mode I miss the most is Assault god I loved that gametype quick paced objective combat yes please! Good old Team Deathmatch is fun to :).

anyone up for getting a game of this together maybe this coming tuesday my RL schedules kinda weird till then or I'd suggest sooner :/.

Is this game's community tiny or am I doing something wrong? my community name is insaneluchdor if anyone wants to play.

I haven't been online with it just yet so I couldn't tell you with any certainty. I'd say atm its likely kinda small with so many games of this genra out like Quake Wars, Orange box etc. That and the spec requirements to run this game well at full capacity are kinda high limiting it a bit more in an already competitive market. I imagine given just a short span it will pick up UT traditionally has had a decently large and loyal community in the past I don't imagine it will be any different this time around.

P.S. oh my community ID is currently PhoenixT

Got this game at launch. Having with the "campaign" mode. For anyone that's played it....what's the deal with the cards? Are they reusable or one time only thing?

My SN is Synic so feel free to add me.
