Valkyrie Profile on the DS
I smell remake.
Article, motherfucker, do you read it?!

...the game is the first in the series to feature a male protagonist, a disgruntled soldier named Wilfred, who hates the Valkyries and is out for vengeance using a magical feather given to him by the queen of the underworld.
That plot doesn't sound anything like the previous two games, so it's definitely not a remake.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this news. I love, love anything Valkyrie Profile - one of the only reasons why i got a PSP. I own the game on PS1, PSP, and number 2 on PS2. I can't wait for this.

sorry no interest in this I tried the first one on the PSP and there was far to much I disliked about it to invest in "another" one.

You don't think it's retarded to come into a thread with the foreknowledge that you have no interest in the topic just to state that you have no interest?

Nope because there are many other useless posts on other threads. At least we know someone doesn't like this game [I'll pre-ordered this]. Just few days ago I saw a post with only emoticons.

Don't be a part of the problem.

That looks interesting. I was hoping for the next VP game to be on the PS3 though. I really liked VP2 and would like to see a sequel to it on the PS3.

I will say that this is one of the few games that has me interested in picking up a DS.
everyone bashes vp2, whats up with that?
I don't know. I really liked it. I did get stuck in area of VP2 that didn't much story for awhile that made me stop. Once I got back in, it was worth it. The story towards the end is pretty good. I just didn't like having to get parts from monsters in the game. Some stuff was a real pain to get. That's really my only gripe with the game.

damn, ive come to the conclusion that my gf and i cant share my ds any longer, she needs to get her own again.

im also glad to see SE putting out more than just FF games too.

Why do you people get so easily impressed by rendered trailers? Of course they look cool, they're supposed to.:p I was thinking I'd see some real gameplay footage but.. the music was very good.

But I just realized something. This game's gonna MSRP at $40 most likely as it's an S-E title.:whistle2:?

I've always liked VP and making it for the DS is like my dream comes true :D

btw...what's with all the RPG invading the lil handheld lately
not that I'm complaining as I love RPG...so many games...so little money T_T

Nice another good rpg on the DS. About damn fucking time we get something other than FF remakes. We got different rpgs like Etrian Odyssey, The Word Ends With You, and now this. Awesome :D. Now lets get to work on the Wii, lol...

ugh pass, didnt like the PSP one I doubt I'd like this one glad everyone else who likes the series is getting to play it now though.

This is an SRPG, completely different from VP1.

Shame on you for not liking VP1 though.

Who said it was an SRPG? I never heard that.

Edit: Looking at the official site, it seems to have the same basic combat system with 4 characters and a button attached to each.

lol wut?

Sorry, I was thinking back to when the game was first announced, when people were *SPECULATING* it was an SRPG.

Actually, the game is an SRPG. You have a 3D map to move around on and initiate combat with enemies. Of course, the actual combat engine still uses the series' signature 4 button combo chaining system (provided all the characters are close enough to the enemy), actually making me interested in the game (because normal SRPGs are boooring, but Namco X Capcom was OK).

So basically it's like VP2 without the exploration. Just battles and cutscenes.

By your definition Valkyrie Profile 2 was SRPG (and FFXII, Secret of Mana, etc). And 3D map with sprite characters? Don't you mean isometric?

Most boring battle videos ever. I have never played any of the VP games. The battles are always 3-4 people beating up on one defenseless dude?

SE and Tri-Ace have pulled off another great game. There's too many amazing DS games all at once this month. From the IGN Review (8.5):

This is a very mature, serious adventure. It's a dour tale of revenge where players make a pact with the devil and are required to "sin" by overkilling their enemies. The script is very well written, full of flowery, high-minded dialogue. Final Fantasy Tactics A2, another SRPG for the DS from Square Enix, was very good, but its premise was a little childish. If you are looking for a mature story to play through on the handheld, this is it. Not to worry if you haven't played the other Valkyrie Profile games -- Covenant of the Plume is a standalone experience.

Covenant of the Plume could be considered a mature counterpart to Square Enix's Final Fantasy Tactics A2. This is a polished SRPG that stands out from the crowd thanks to some unique battle mechanics. The enemy AI feels a little lazy at times, but the game still provides a nice challenge. The real draws here are the high-minded script and team-up attacks. There are already a bunch of great turn-based strategy games on the DS, but you should make room for another one.

One could say that the combat in VP2 was SRPG combat, yes. No one ever said SRPGs have to use an isometric viewpoint. And the map of Covenant of the Plume, while using an isometric viewpoint, is rendered in 3D.

Anyone else pick this up yet? I'm having some fun with it, though I'm not very far, just the first chapter. I'm tempted to pick up a guide since the better endings in the VP games tend to be hard to get unless you know what you are doing.
