Valkyrie Profile question

I got a mint condition copy of Valkyrie Profile from a local game store for a mere $30. The discs are pristine, as are the instructions.

Now here is the problem: the game is in a single-wide 2-disc case, and appears to be missing the front insert that I've seen on ebay auction photos. They also appear to be in a double-width 2-disc case (think Parasite Eve).
Will this affect the value of this game?

Please advise.

Probably, since it's not the original case.

But if you bought it to play it, and not sell it, shouldn't make a difference, since the original case will be a pain to reconstruct, as well as find that insert.

i think if you was to sell it it would be known as DISC Only since its not the real box and you dont have the real book. STill i would love to find it for 30 even if it was Game only..... Its a hard game to find and belive me you will hate yourself once you sell it (I found a very rare game HARVEST MOON for SNES and sold it and Now i should of never sold it cause i never seen it again)

I plan to play through it once, then share the wealth. :)

There is a disc 2/case/manual VP on ebay currently @ $33-something (only half the damn game!), so there is hope for me, should I not like this game.

Thanks for the straight answer; I imagine I may have pissed someone off with my good luck.

It has the discs, complete instructions, back insert, and a generic CD case. just missing the front insert and the original case.

As of now, I don't know what I plan to do with this game.

You could make your money back on Ebay if you didn't like it, but why not just sell it on CAG for cost + shipping and help out someone else?

I just find it funny on that thread where Gamestop has lowered prices, you mentioned something of how all the Ebayers will be sad now since Gamestop lowered Tomba 1's prices... yet you just bought VP for a steal of a price and are now questioning it's worth, to potentially resell it for higher.

if you ever think about selling it Pm me i been looking for it for awhile.... Im glad tomba 1 finally fell in price. I picked it up complete at Gamecrazy sale for 5 bucks and traded it off (still got complete TOMBA 2 but its not as good as part 1)

it was a great game for 5 bucks but was never worth what gamestop wanted for it

Please don't be mad at me...

I was just asking a question in the event that I decide to sell it. My family is pressuring me to do so after looking over my shoulder at the ebay listings... *sigh*

More to come. My question has been answered; let this thread die peacefully.

Play that game. Its really a great experience. If you do decide to sell it (Dont ;), you can easily get your money back even if you just sold the disks alone. I got lucky with my copy. Just happened to look for it on Ebay about 20 minutes after someone had listed the complete game, mint WITH the official Strat. Guide for $55 buy it now. I snatched that thing up and after getting the game, I realized just why that game is so sought after now. Its a great game for sure.

was this a long time or go or a little bit ago. 6 months or so i could find great deals on ebay. Not anymore

always on the look out for it.. if you find a game your interested in to play buy it.. don't buy it then contemplate a resale.. its a great game.. enjoy it.

I was just wondering if it would detract from the collectability of the game, since some people are tragically anal about their games (must not be Greatest Hits, etc.). I plan to play through before I do ANYTHING with this game.

It was less than a year ago. Like I said, I got REALLY lucky on that one. The other VP auctions were going for like 70-100 dollars for just the game alone and the Strat. guide was and still gets anywhere from $25-40 dollaors alone. I even bought the paypal fraud insurance cause I couldn't believe that the seller had sold it for that price and I was worried that they would screw me over or surprize me..then I got the game and it was PRISINE and I was over joyed. I'm a little ashamed to say that I also bought ANOTHER copy of it without the instruction booklet off ebay for a buy it now of $25 and resold it for more on ebay. That was a stroke of luck too. The seller had spelled Valkyrie as Valkire...thats the ONLY reason no one was looking at his amazinging priced game. I had only typed in PSX and Profile in the ebay search and it came up for me. The auction was 2 days old and 9 people had looked at it.

It will surely detract a bit from the price if you dont have the complete game, but at a certain point, the demand and availablity of some games weight heavier in ones consideration of bidding. Most of the people that will pay the top dollar for a complete and mint copy of it are collectors looking to add it to their collection. Sure, I would rather have a game complete and mint, but if I was really wanting to play that game and couldnt afford those mint complete copies, its nice to have a slightly cheaper option of buying Disk only or a non-mint but working copy. Trust me, if you REALLY wanted to sell your Valkyrie Profile on an auction, you could easily and make your money back and more. Personally, Id like to see you and slidecage make a trade for it though ;) Keep the game in the circle. I KNOW he's been looking for that for awhile.

Tell your family to shover their opinions up their @$$es- we are Gamers. We buy games to play, not to profit. That's what they're for. If they think it should be sold, they can go find their own copy to make money on... if they even can.

You're doing the right thing- you'll likely never see it again, so play and enjoy and think very carefully before you part with it.

I think this may be a keeper after all... I can make the $30 back no problem from dumbasses who pay too much for beautified cardboard, also known as people who are joining the Pokemon TCG community far too late.

So you are enjoying it? :) Gooooodddd...Keep it. Its a real gem.

You should buy it, play it, and then sell it. I've seen disc only copies of VP go for $50+ on eBay and that was for discs with scratches.

Most people who want VP are collecting it, but there are some who just to play it.

I really just want to play it, but I would feel like a schmuck paying $50+ for a disc-only copy of a game I'll probably only play through once.

I'll play through before taking advantage of any idiots lurking on yon Internet. So far, I think I'd much rather have the Lunars than this thing. Still not bad for what I paid for it and the condition though.
