Vice President Cheney to resign (Plamegate)?

Whether or not he resigns is going to depend on whether the American public starts to care about the whole affair. So far, they're really not. Us news-hounds are glued to our PCs examining every breaking detail, but the other 90% of the population is bored out of their mind with the topic - its nothing but 'he-said, she-said', 10,000 boring legal documents, obscure laws written in legalese, and nary a penis in sight.

If Cheney does resign and Condi takes over, that would put her in a good position for a 2008 presidential run. Even without Plamegate, Cheney is running down like a wind-up toy with a bad spring, but Condi is new and fresh, with a lot of potential appeal to women and minority voters. She is, of course, rather badly tarred by her association...

Still, if she made it to be the Republican presidential nominee, and Hillary wound up being the Democratic nominee... We could wind up with Nader for president!

As much as condi looks good on paper, being a woman and black, I think Hillary would blow her out of the water. I don't think she's presidential material, and I think it would show in a race.

Oh 'zo, always good for a laugh.

Condi has the longest resume in the Western World, much like G.H.W. Bush did. Hilary carpetbagged a Senate seat and bitched about a video game mod.

>>Condi has the longest resume in the Western World

Her expertise was Soviet Russia, which you know (Least I hope) no longer exists.

Then she helped jump start a war based on lies.

Color me unimpressed.

Bush's resume was only as long as it was because he wrote it in crayon.

Put her up against a top of the line politician like Hillary Clinton and she won't last long.

H.W., not W.

Precisely. Politics are fucking boring; a good dick-suckin' tale, though? Now THAT'S some news!

Fresh? Balls. Don't you remember Gore's "guilty by association" reputation that killed him in 2000? He should have won against a man whose campaign was "I'll give you three HUNDRED dollars!," without even considering his incumbency. Unlike most quasi-incumbents, it was a hindrance for Gore such that his impeccable charisma (kidding, knee-jerk dorks) could not lift him over the political morass left behind by (public perceptions and not actions) of Clinton's legacy.

I'd love to see McCain, but the great irony is the party who accuses everyone but themselves of extremism doesn't have the guts to run a moderate, for sake of putting off their radical constituency, which is vital to their existence.

Still, if she made it to be the Republican presidential nominee, and Hillary wound up being the Democratic nominee... We could wind up with Nader for president!

The hell? This reminds me of a Bloom County comic I was reading the other day, where Binkley was tormenting his father by suggesting that Jack Kemp and Pat Robertson would collectively knock George Bush out of the '88 primaries, and Mick Jagger would clinch the Republican nomination. If you aren't a BC fan, go find a book; one of the best strips ever, if not for Calvin and Hobbes (and just *maybe* The Boondocks).

I really don't think I agree with this. For all the right-wing tried to slime Clinton, he always had high public approval ratings. If Gore had displayed even 1/10th the charisma of Clinton (which he does have. He just seemed to think that the 'tedious vice-principal' approach was the better one, for some insane reason), I think he would have coasted to an easy victory. Ultimately, Gore lost for the exact same reason that nobody really cares about the Plame scandal - he was boring, and boring trumps good ideas.

HOW could you fail to mention Far Side?

I remember that one. I also like the one where they have the tale of Gary Hart and the campaign plan to get into Office. That was amusing.
