Vista issues with COD4 and Mythos

I'm running Vista on my new PC (not by choice) and downloaded Mythos and it crashes on me when loading it. Help forums for it are pointless and now after installing Call of Duty 4 I have the same issue. I just uninstalled COD4 and will try to reinstall it to see if that helps. I have played around with the video changing it from 32 to 16 bit and changed all the screen sizes. Nothing works.

Try these two options:

1) Make sure everything is up to date. Such as video card drivers, windows, and anything else.

2) Try disabling third party programs such as anti-virus, firewalls, or anything of that sort that would possibly be preventing it from loading. In Mythos' F.A.Q. they mention something about a "Clean boot" which will help you disable all non-essential programs when you reboot windows.

I think it is a display setting. Atleast with mythos I think it is. For cod4 it dont know what the issue is. I'm reinstalling on the vista pc now. only games that have worked on the damn thing are age of conan and orange box. I also have IOGEAR - 2-Port USB KVM Switch so I can use one pc (vista pc) for gameing and the other (xp pc) for everthing else. I wonder if that could be some of the issue.

I seriously doubt it's the display setting. I've had no problems with any of my games using Windows Vista 32bit (32bit color & 1600x1200 resolution), one of which is Mythos. Others include:

Crysis (Crashed twice in 3 playthroughs)

I also doubt it's the USB Switch. It's possible it's the video card drivers (I have an nVidia card and not an ATI card like you), however other people have reported having problems in the tech forums on the Mythos site. Seems like most of their problems were solved by disabling all startup programs by using their 'clean boot' fix. It's worth a shot and from what I've looked at, will not hurt the computer at all. Granted you may get a couple error messages and can always go back in and select a 'Normal Boot' from the general tab.

I'm going to reinstall all but age of conan (no longer play it due to paying for subscription) and see what works. As of now I'm reinstalling everything even windows. Going to give that a shot to see if cod4 works.

Well I dont even know if I will be able to get mythos or even play cod4 now. Atleast the multiplayer of cod4. I can no longer get the internet to work on the vista pc. unsure as to why. when i bought the damn thing it worked out of the box. now with the reinstall it does not and just tells me to download drivers.

EDIT: Well after playing around I got the internet working on it. I'm installing cod4 now.

I've also had zero problems with games on Vista. Whatever problem you're having it's definitely not common (or it'd be talked about) -- seems unfair to blame Vista without knowing the cause.

I run COD4 maxed out on a Vista machine with 0 problems. I think I've had the system crash once during a game.

Try running it as an XP under compatibility options and see what happens.

Dont know how i'm clueless. I have run this stuff on xp just fine other then the fact that the computer was old and just met the minimum requirements. On a new install I just put in Bioshock and no sound after the plane crash. Last thing I heard was the character say something about he could be something great then the plane go down. After that no sound at all.

I found out online that the issue I am having with CoD4 is common and is a "sound driver" issue. Patch 1.5 should have fixed it on some computer others have been able to get the game to run with just pluging in headphones. I even downloaded the drivers that they told me in the support log to get from dell for the sound card and it didnt work.

So as of now only games that have worked 100% are Age of Conan and The Orange box.

Well I got COD4 working some what. I have to have the mic and headset plugged in in order to get the game to run. This is a common issue if you look at the forums at infinityward.com and other COD4 sites. Also I am now having an issue with punkbuster that others are having.

I have yet to install mythos so I'm unsure of if I will be able to get it to work. However I was able to get Bioshock working. I had to reinstall vista because all the "fixes" that I read to due made the game no longer work even after reinstalling it. After reinstalling vista, updating the game, and playing around with some settings I was able to get it to work.

Now it is on to trying to get other games working and fixing the issue I'm haveing with punkbuster.
