Vista survey for a school research project

CAGiversary!
Hey everyone, I'm doing this survey for my professional & technical communication class at the University of Texas at Dallas, and I'd appreciate you guys' input.

Some of these are hypothetical questions, especially since all computers come with Vista now, so just try to put yourselves in 2006 shoes, since all computers had XP back then.

Quick Edit: There were two separate tiers, "Vista Capable," and "Vista Premium Ready."

1. Rate your skill with computers from 1-10, 1 meaning low skill (can browse the internet, but don't know how to do much else) and 10 (you can build your own computers, troubleshoot your own problems, and generally fix other people's problems).

2. Are you familiar with Microsoft's "Vista Capable" marketing promotion? (yes or no)

3. If you were buying a new laptop or desktop computer with the intent to upgrade to Windows Vista, would you consider buying one that had a "Vista Capable" sticker on it, versus a "Vista Premium Ready" which would cost more? (yes or no)

4. If you found out that "Vista Capable" marked computers were only able to run Vista Home Basic, would you still consider buying that computer? (yes or no)

Thanks!

edit: clarified question 3, thanks

In your line of questioning I'd say:

1. 8
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No

But I'm not a huge fan of your questions.

For #3, I highly doubt someone would avoid a computer based on the sticker, so everyone's answer will likely be yes... answers to this question will tell you nothing about Microsoft's marketing, since "yes" only means they wouldn't avoid the sticker and "no" means they'd avoid the sticker.

For #4, I would not buy such a weak computer, but not all Vista Capable machines are that weak -- again, I don't see how answers to this question are going to tell you anything about marketing.

1. 8.5
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No

Most computers now can run Vista Premium unless it's a netbook. So I don't see the point of your question, if this was a couple years ago when Vista first came out, it was a valid question. Usually the only reason they can't run Premium is because of the gfx and that is an easy fix.

Like I said, answer as if this was 2006, before Vista was out. I'm doing a report over the whole "Vista Capable" mess, which some of you may or may not be familiar with.

1)7
2) Yes
3) No
4) No

If this is for school, you need to specify what the numbers mean on the 1-10 scale for better results.

I really hate Vista, and even if I was buying a prebuilt computer (which I never do), I'd always ignore the sort of "Vista Ready" or "Vista Capable" or whatever stickers, because I think they're really meaningless. I mean, they have monitors that come with "Vista Ready" stickers on them, for crying out loud, as if the monitor cares what OS you're using.

It's for HDCP

Guess they could put "HDCP ready" on the front, but 99% of people would have no idea what that means.
