It's Vista now.

edit: also, this should be in the PC forum.

Since I work in Graphics, I am looking forward to the 64 bit version of Vista. That will give me more power in the future.

There is also going to be a 36 bit version available too.

As a regular joe, I think I'll wait a few years after it's released to upgrade. I don't really need anything else from my computer as it is.

:whistle2:s 36 bit? Don't you mean 32-bit?

i'm not sure how long i'll wait to get it.

it took me 2 years to get xp (since xp's release, i was running 98 prior) and even then i 'tested' it before buying it to make sure it was worthwhile.

i think the deciding factor for me is going to be exactly what specs are suggested, because my experience with operating systems is to always have better specs than that, not just to have the minimum, or you're going to end up with some speed problems.

ie7, however, i will get as soon as possible. i don't know why, but i've always liked the ie's over every browser, except maybe opera.

everyones gonna have to get dual core processors sooner or later. i just hope theyre a lot cheaper then they are now.

Hehe. The Beta 1 is already out, and it looks sweet. Obviously it's kinda ripped from Mac OS X, but it's still cool.

BTW it's Windows Vista, now.

Actually, it's 32-Bit. And that's going to be mainly for the international/poorer sectors of the market (places like India). Here, technology is advancing fast and prices are dropping (as always). By Christmas of 2006, you likely won't be able to buy new hardware that won't be fully compliant for Vista (which is thought to come out about that time). There is no reason to make a crap version available, since like someone already said about their personal use, most people don't upgrade their PC OS very quickly. By the time they do, they are usually getting a new machine. And those who are early adopters are also ahead of the technology curve and have no reason to buy a 32-Bit version. Besides, Vista is very graphically oriented and videogame and internet integrated. Everything is headed in the 64-Bit direction. It would be a giant step backwards to release a ghetto version stateside. The only reason they are developing one at all is for the markets that won't have (our) up to date technology anytime soon, yet still use computers.

lol

I was thinking the same.

"Oh great IT man please share this mystical platform with us! I could use the extra four bits for my 1337 games. w00t!"

:booty:

i just built a computer running a 3.1 ghz p4 processor and windows 2000. It feels super-fast and stable(more stable than xp). So I think ill stick with it for a while, unless of course longhorns can support 32 bit with no speed issues. After all, windows xp could be run on a computer with 128mb ram and running 400mhz, but you dont see people doing that, right?

Anyway, I'll pass. It doesn't really do anything compellingly different than XP other than require higher system specs. The new file system was the most interesting part, and they axed it. Vista is looking like ME2 at this point.

I think my XP box will probably be my last MS based computer. We're getting to the point where most decent PC games get ported to home systems anyway. That's all I'm staying on with it for. I can live Linux to check my email and browse the web after this. Or even Apple if I find I have too much money and not enough style.

Yes ...I meant 32 bit. Sorry about that.

Yes, this one guy I knew thought he was the shit with his computer running WinXP and it barely could do AIM and IE. He had 128mb and I think a 800mhz tops.
Dose any one know how much its gonna cost???:newbie:
My bet is around $200, but we'll see if they are finalizing a Home and Pro version like XP.

Gotcha. I was wondering if they'd keep with the 'Windows' view-to-the-world type of theme.

Not code name. It's the official name of the new operating system.

I've put off building a PC untill the new Windows OS came out. I didn't want to install XP then a year later install a new OS. I want to make sure all my stuff works well with the new OS. I'll build my PC like a month after the OS is out. I want all the kinks worked out before I take the plunge.

You better wait for more than a month! You know how long it took for SP2 to come out and how that messed up so many people's comps! In fact, if you want kinks worked out, you best build a Win98SE system.
