So my 360 broke and is on its way to the MS repair center.

In the mean time, I am thinking about buying a temporary replacement, so long as I can return the replacement system once my refurb comes back from the repair center.

Am I correct in thinking that Wal-Mart would work for this?

My plan is to I buy a core system, use only the system itself (since I still have my hard drive and other accessories from the old system), and pack it all up and return it with the original receipt after two or three weeks of use?

Under the current Wal-Mart policy, this would fall under grounds for a successful return (and refund), correct?

Let's see...

Buying an item, using it for 2-3 weeks knowing you will return it even though there is nothing wrong with it.

It's also dishonest.
It's dishonest but it's not illegal.
Yeah your soul will just burn in hell but at least you dont risk jail time. lol

If you return the unit you bought from Walmart it's just dishonest. If you return the 360 that MS sends back to you then your in the illegal realm.

If your considering doing the second one the serial # is printed on the receipt so unless the Walmart person is completely incompetent they'll know what your doing.

Is either one really worth the hassle?

amazing people like you still exist. No wonder honest people these days get screwed over about returns etc. Its because of people like yourself.

Go outside and exercise or something for the three weeks you will be without your system. It wont kill you.
Even Wal-Mart wouldn't let you get away with something like that, not to mention it's horribly illegal.
This shit cracks me up. Tell me good sir, what law is he breaking?

I personally think that everything is fair game when it comes to XBOX360s and repairs. They are selling products with defects, so do what you want.

Walmart tracks the serial numbers. So its not possible. I bought a 360 and had to take it back for an exchange within 30 days, and had a tough time doing that.

Wow, bunch of hard-asses in here.

As far as I know, the policy on their website states:

All merchandise purchased from Walmart.com may be returned either to a store or by mail within 90 days of receiving it, unless otherwise noted below. Additional guidelines are also noted below.
APPAREL, SHOES & ACCESSORIES

BOOKS, MOVIES & VIDEO GAMES

* CDs, DVDs, audiotapes, videotapes and video games: Must be returned unopened.
* Books: Must be returned unused and unmarked.

ELECTRONICS

* Computer hardware: Must be returned with any included software within 15 days of receipt.
* Computer components and computer accessories: Must be returned within 45 days of receipt.
* Computer software: Must be returned unopened.
* Camcorders and digital cameras: Must be returned within 30 days of receipt.
* GPS units, digital music players and portable video players: May be returned for refund or exchange with receipt within 15 days.

Nowhere in here does it mention video game consoles, hence my reason for asking the question.

I am not stupid enough to try and return my dead system (since most stores check for serial numbers), I just want to know if video game consoles qualify as a part of their 90 day return policy.

And if you want to play the ethics card, why don't you start with Microsoft and their 30% system failure rate.

You can replace the serial. People do it all the time.
It's not hard to rip off a sticker, dude.

Everyone returns their broken 360 to walmart by buying a new one, replacing it with theirs, taking it back, and saying it didnt work.

Even if you dont replace the serial #, it still usually works.

It's a 100% rate.

30% is the percent of people that HAVE returned their console out of the 100% that have a console(defective ones). Systems are identical, and will all break down. the other 70% will break down, eventually.

Microsoft admitted ALL of their systems will break down. I have no idea why people choose to ignore it. Maybe stubborness.

You can even listen to their live conference. People just keep ignoring this, but it's ridiculous to disregard Microsoft saying it from their own mouths on a live chat. Why do you think they put out this warranty? This conference was given as they announced the 3 year warranty, lol.

This is why people switch 360's with WalMart every day. Go on gamefaqs. thousands of people have done it. It feels so good, too. It's the only way to stick it to Microsoft before they announced the new warranty.

I do not suggest any one do it anymore, though, since the warranty should be satisfaction enough. Just have fun going months without a console. I went 4 months before they returned mine, and that's when I reached the breaking point.

I had to return 2 different xbox 360s to walmart,2 different walmarts at that, due to it not playing my dvds worth a crap,(third time was the charm tho, thank god)

they ONLY thing they do is this:

walmart-"so why are you returning it?"
me-"it wouldnt play my games or dvds half the time"
walmart-"ok, sign your name on the return slip, heres your money back"

its that simple, they dont play 20 questions, they dont test it, they just have you sign the return slip and they give you your money back

dont overthink it, just take it back and say it wouldnt work half the time and youd like your money back

if you think its too easy and i mustve been lucky, then i suggest this, just call your local walmart and ask what the policy is on returning a video game system

Except that Microsoft has already made their money and you're only screwing Wal-Mart at that point.

It's just jerky too. It's not as if your system won't get fixed.

Well, maybe we would have something nice to say if you didn't post asking to do something pretty damn dishonest. What you're basically going to do is pay for a "loaner" system then plan on returning when you get your 360 back from MS. If you try this, I hope they deny it and you're $280+ in the hole for your stunt.

You're the reason why so many people have trouble returning items.

You could just buy a used system at a gamestop/eb and play with that for a while, then return it. No need to worry about packing it back up nice and neat and if you're going to get your money back.

Yes it'll work. They will accept opened hardware returns for refunds...just not software. Just be sure to return all the contents because they WILL check it.

But really...can you not go 3 weeks without playing games? Surely you can find something else to do with your time.

AFAIK, Wal-Mart will just defect it out and send it back to Microsoft. It will be Microsoft that is out the money. I'm not trying to justify this, but if you want to throw around the ethics card why don't you target the main culprit first?
as of 2-22-09 its 90 days with receipt:bouncy:
*ponders* I thought it was 15 day return policy...

I wouldn't- you have no idea how long the system will take to come back excactly... I know I'm leery of people who return 'broken' or unwanted but open items weeks later- far more so if it's an expensive item. Return policies are often 'tweaked' to suit local needs, so I wouldn't be surprised if the manager comes to tell you 'due to special circumstances, we require systems to be unopened for return.'

You can live without a 360 for a lil' while. (Out of curiosity, is that the only system you own?)

I bought a 360 from walmart, put my broken 360 in the box, returned it for cash, so easy, walmart will just send it off to MS and be reimbursted.....only person that gets hurt is MS, but lets face it both have enough money to spend.

Just like the rest of the people are saying that it's dishonest. Might be the reason I get hassled over returning items that are actually damaged/defective because of what you are wanting to do.
