I'm looking for dedicated writers for my site (http://www.mobilemilitia.com). We have about 4-5 people currently on staff, but I'm looking to expand our coverage. I'm looking for both news editors (posting news) and editorialists (writing reviews, previews, editorials, etc.) alike. Past experience isn't a requirement, but knowing how to write grammatically correct is.

We cover all handheld gaming, but our focus is on the GBA, PSP, and DS. This is strictly a volunteer position (I pay for the site out of my own pockets), but if the site were to grow to a point where we would get benefits like free games and event passes, they would be passed on to eligible staff.

Feel free to contact me on AIM (sharp896) or email me at [email protected]

If the Admins do not allow this sort of thing, please lock the thread. Thanks.

Good call. I've really only dealt in the trading forum, so I don't even know his name (I'm guessing cheapyd). I'll go do that now.

Normally I would love to do stuff like this but right now my life is really chaotic. I was actually fired from a website last month because I couildn't contribute as much as the website wanted.

But good luck to you, and please remember that your writers are people too and not to treat them like slaves. Thanks ;)

Do you have a business license for the site? This is highly useful for gaining admittance for you or your writers to events like E3 as press. Since I'm in Los Angeles and tend to write a lot just to keep my mind going, I could be interested in doing such coverage.

Jaw drops. E3 passes!?

I'd write a review or two for some E3 passes!

I'd suggest that the cost of travel and accomodations would be a bigger issue. Any adult can get into E3 if they're willing to pay. Press credentials are needed for some of the big stuff like the events put on by the console companies where all the major announcements are made and provide the most ripe subject matter for analysis. I have contacts at the PR agencies for the console companies, though, so it's actually easier for me to get into their events than it is E3 itself. I haven't done any bylined articles in over a year and they want you to have something published within the last six months at publication that is demonstrably a commercial entity. Thus the need for a business license as evidence.

I miss the good old days when Byte was on real dead trees and I could actually carry an issue with my name under an article as all the proof needed to get in at any trade event. Getting paid was sweet, too but my areas of expertise have become less marketable after the dot.bomb era passed if I wanted to remain a freelancer.

I'd write a review or two for some E3 passes![/quote]epobirs - I went to E3 in 2003 and 2004 with media passes, but it was with a different site. That site was pretty much a dead end (I wasn't the owner), so I gathered the remaining staff and forum members and made my current site. I am currently trying to get a business license for the site, but it's harder than I thought (or I'm doing something wrong). Like I said in my first post, if we were to get passes to E3, these benefits would be passed along to qualifying staff (I.E. over 18, and not someone who just writes a couple reviews to get passes). Our community, while relatively small, is very tight knit, and I am looking to build on that adding dedicated staff who intends to continue to write throughout time.

evilmax17 - That's not what we are looking for. See the above paragraph.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm not going to lie to anyone here and say we have big plans for the site and are putting XXXX amount of dollars into a marketing plan. The plans I have for it involve building a larger reader-base, providing more content, and hopefully (emphasis on that) cross the line from "fan site" to "news outlet" (officially). I have recently dealt with some sites that do just what I said I don't want to do, and while it sounds great, none of it is true.

Very generous of you to offer an hour or two of work for E3 passes. . . However, it might be easier to just print up some fake business cards and other faulty credentials to bluff your way in like so many "professionals" are always later admitting to doing.

The problem is that the gatekeepers at E3 can be remarkably capricious and random in how they verify credentials. There is a certain justification in that they have to deal with more wannabe gatecrashers than any other major trade show but my willingness to endure the hassle is more limited with each passing year. Last year I pretty much just did the Big 3 press conferences and skipped the show floor due to the obnoxiousness I had to endure in 2003. Being subjected to intense scrutiny while kids who might have even been born when I first started going to CES just walk right through is more than alittle annoying.

Sharp, a business license really shouldn't take much more than a day's work. All of the needed info is just a Google away. Since this is unlikely to be a profit generating entity any time soon, most ststes have simplified application processes to cover the essential requirements.

What real-world location would the home base for the site? If you're able to muster the required fees it shouldn't be any problem to have it up and running within this month.

I'm actually a writer there. Ironic, huh? And although I may be mistaken, I believe that we do have a business liscense. At least he had mentioned it previously. But yes, although I do quality work, I'm kinda lazy, so more people would be appreciated.

I R Rtucalit!

I'm generally humorous, well spoken and intelligent. If you need writing samples... too bad, I don't know where they are :p

Seriously though... I'm pretty interested.

Humorous, well spoken and intelligent?

Just kidding. (I have to give you a hard time, your g/f loves sex.)

I would love to be involved, unfortunately I don't do the handheld gaming thing. If you plan on expanding into PC or Console gaming though, I'm on call.

PM's sent. Thanks for the interest so far!

fanskad - I do have plans to expand to consoles with a sister site, but these plans won't happen unless two things happen. First, I need to get a steady staff for MobileMilitia to a point where I don't have to worry about it if I go out of town for a couple days. Second, I'd need one or two people who would be able to do news daily on the console front. So far, I have had little success finding more than just myself to do news daily.
