CAGiversary!

WTF is going on with all of these ripeoff artists on CAG lately?

On Feb 28th I noticed a thread she created a thread selling various games and equipment to raise some cash. I PMed her asking if she'd take $30 shipped for two Bluray movies, Pineapple Express & Stepbrothers. She agreed and asked if I had Paypal. I said yes and she said if I was able to pay her by the next morning she'd be able to get my movies shipped right away.

I paid her $30 via Paypal and waited. I didn't receive anything so I finally PMed her on March 6th asking if she had the tracking number for the package she sent me. She told me that she forgot about having to wait for the money to transfer from Paypal ( I assume she means transfer from Paypal into a checking account) and that she sent them "today". I waited another week until this past Friday and PMed again. As of right now I have not received a response and I've noticed she has not signed on since March 11th.

I noticed she received neutral feedback once for being a bit slow. Maybe that's the situation now, or maybe you were scammed.

Did you also try emailing her (since you probably got her PayPal email?
Isn't this the kind of thing you should take up with a mod?
Agreed, work it out with a mod before you do the public shaming, wouldn't want an innocent person to get gang raped for no reason (Other than slow shipping and poor communication)

I've tried e-mailing as well and have gotten no response. I am sending the information to a mod now. I don't generally tend to "throw people under the bus" but I wanted to bring this to other CAGs attention before they get wrapped up in this crap. At worst I get screwed out of $30 and at best she sends me my stuff 3 weeks after I paid for it without any communication.

can't paypal solve this though if you don't receive your items? o_O"

Yeah, I just got a response from LinkinPrime advising I get a PP dispute started ASAP.

man scams are coming up more frequently these days :( sorry to all the fellow cags who have had this happen to them. But I was scammed and I continue to trade, too many good cags to let a couple of bad ones ruin it.

Hopefully you get your money back man.
If he doesn't respond to the paypal dispute, you get your money back by default, right?

Yeah, I noticed a lot of scams lately (so far none have happened to me, well I hope not. Still waiting for one more person, but he dosn't seem like a scammer at all). But don't worry, lots of new people here I've seen also lately (like me). It kinda helps if you're also on goozex and have nice feedback, :)

you did the right thing. she needs to be on trading timeout if it has been that long.

looks like she is gone tho. last activity the 11th.

good luck.

Yes, there have been more scams, but I don't think it's out of control. CAG has more users now so naturally with more traders, more scammers.

I have yet to be scammed but I try to be cautious all the time. I won't ship first if the item is of really high value or pay first for that matter unless the other guy has a lot of feedback. CAG has a really good community but there's always jerks trying to swindle someone.

Not really ... paypal is not as safe as it seems ... I found out the hard way, twice.

I know there's a lot of great CAGs out there so no matter the outcome I will still continue to trade.
Yeah dude, shoulda contacted a mod instead of this. I got thrown under the bus myself and it hasn't been fun.
I'm not the type of person that will freak out and start crying scam after just a few days. It's now been almost 3 weeks since I paid and two weeks since I've received any sort of communication from the seller. I figured it was time to take action. I sent to the info to a mod and created this thread to warn others.

If you make a sale or trade, don't send your end for three weeks, and don't make an effort to communicate with the buyer then you kinda bring this on yourself.

I disagree. She said she'll shipped it right away. Yet she failed to do so, and there's no communication. Irresponsible! She deserved to be public shaming. Just to let people know how bad a trader she is, so no more people become her victims if she's really a swindler.

If you take a look at her feedback, she has two feedback regarding slow shipping, and no communication. She's example of a bad trader.

I agree^

3 weeks is a long time. I mean a day or three is acceptable but 3 weeks? There are post offices all over the place

I'd consider this to be an issue worth looking into, yes. Three weeks is a little too much to have no communication one way or the other about not shipping out two movies, even if there's been something that has kept her away from here or responding to emails.

She's been kicked out of the Trading Forum for the moment and I suggest that the OP do a Paypal dispute over this issue.

I'm with the majority here. The time isn't the issue as long as there's some sort of communication. Car broke down, grandma died, something would be better than stone cold silence here and through PayPal. Hope you get your money back or your movies, OP.
don't forget that you can also request info from PayPal, like a phone number.
Damn, I always forget you can do that. A great idea.
is this person someone that possibly lives in the San Antonio TX area?
Possibly. Is this something that should be a concern?

i transferred funds from my paypal account to my bank account 5 times in the last 2 weeks and each and every time it took less than 48 hours to show up in my bank account so she is definately up to no good with that excuse...
You'll get your money back since you used PayPal. Since she did get neutral for being slow then I don't know if shes really scamming.
The OP has not received his blu ray movies in nearly a month and has not been able to contact the seller in that time but you don't know if she's really scamming? Does the fact that she has been banned from atleast two other blu ray movie sites mean anything to you?
You'll get your money back since you used PayPal. Since she did get neutral for being slow then I don't know if shes really scamming.
No, I don't think OP could get his money back. She already transferred the money to her bank, no doubt that her PayPal account is empty.

I opened the PP dispute at the beginning of the week. I will have to look into this.

I just hope the CAG that was talking to her about buying the netbook never sent any money.

Expect a slow resolve if you have to use paypal to settle the dispute, its been sometime since i had to bother with their dispute system, but it was very slow. They basically want you to resolve it between the other party for a good while before they will step in... this was probably 8 years ago, before ebay bought them out.. fortunately the person i had bought from finally shipped me the game, like 6 weeks after it was supposed to be sent...

I've been very fortunate in my prior eBay & CAG dealings. In my 10 years + of internet dealings this is the first time I've had to open up a Paypal dispute so I'm definitely a novice. I appreciate the help and advice you've all given me.

When I was reading the information on the Paypal website I expected it to be a long, drawn out process. Since I've still had no communication I went ahead an escalated the dispute to a claim. Now they're giving the other party until March 29th to respond and then they will review the case.

If it does not get resolved past the 29th, make sure to call up Paypal and make sure they are pushing it through. I have disputes where it has gone past the required date the other party was suppose to respond by, but they didn't, and the dispute did not close until I had to call them up personally and have them close it for me in my favor. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure and do that.

(assuming your from chicago) Show him how you dont mess with people from Chitown! Hope everything goes your way, as i was recently scammed and got my stuff back....

I just got an e-mail from Paypal. Looks like they've ruled the dispute in my favor so I will be getting my $30 refunded. I still have received absolutely no communication from the seller.

I didn't expect them to do it differently, as it's usually pretty clear that if the seller hasn't shipped or shown proof that they have shipped, they're going to lose the dispute. If there's money in their account, it'll be very easy, if not, then we'll see where the money comes from.

Oddly enough, I'm surprised the seller hasn't pulled their head out of their backside and said something about it, either via email or via PM. I'm curious if they'll resurface at all.
