Warning For All Who Rent Games From Bbv

Just the Heads up...:bomb:

---NEW RENTAL POLICY---
-all video game rentals are now 7 days
-if you keep the game over the due date, it will cost you a buck a day
-if overdue, the game gets billed to the account until you bring it in w/in the 30day window--after which you it will become permanent

Note: game rentals should become cheaper initially

Before, they had no late fees. People could keep games for weeks on end after the due date and end up paying a small restocking fee.

Guess they finally caught on...many people must have abused the hell out of the old policy lol

They should simply make game rentals 1$ per day period.
Bring it back when ever you want. So I could check out a game before buying it and it wouldnt add up to 6 or 7 bucks.

I prefer renting the occasional game from Rogers, even though for new rentals they charge too much: $7.99 for a 5 day rental. At least the chances are good you'll get an instruction manual. I'd go with the first company to offer a buck a day rentals, though.

Yep...$8.99 now

THe game pass thing looks pretty good for those who rent now.

If only! I have rented a game once since owning a next-gen system...$13 after tax for a new release? Ef you too BBV!

Review sites these days have countless forums and videos, so you should be able to make a very informed decision before renting a game.

This is obviously a push to get people shifted over to the game pass.

Which is probably a harbinger to what's to come. As you may know, Circuit City is-- what's that financial term-- fucked. They'll be bought up soon, and the two main contenders seem to Radio Shack (The Source: By Radio Shack's Circuit City (formerly Radio Shack??)), and Blockbuster.

BBV wants to convert all the Sources into mall-based (mostly) video game sale, trade-in and rental centres. They'd be directly competing with EB, but using the rentals as a "competitive advantage". If they're able to shift everyone who would rent a game over to the gamepass, it makes running a mall-based rental system much easier (and profitable).

I think the last game I rented was Phantasy Star II, and the last one my friend rented was something for the 3DO.

I've already overheard two people get the call that they have a bill of 71 bucks (on top of what they had to pay to rent the game in the first place) due to keeping a game for more than 30 days (how can someone keep a game for so long?).

Doesn't exist north of your border, son.

I just posted this as a new thread. Didn't see this here. Just rented a game on my Game Pass trial and noticed a big note on the receipt about it.

I presume it only replies to "normal" rentals, 'cause I was planning to keep Valkyria Chronicles until I have to go in and cancel the pass.

This sorta sucks -- I felt better renting stuff when I could take some time with it if I really liked it. Guess it just means fewer rentals for me (mind you, my last rental was Too Human right when it came out).

I've got too big a backlog to worry too much about this anyhow :)

i am finishing my free month of their gamepass program tomorrow (when i return lego batman).

as a free gift, it was a sweet deal. i rented 6 games over 30 days, but the biggest plus was that if i was done w/ a game after two days i could go get a new one, rather than pay $11 and have it for a week no matter how long i play it.

i don't think the gamepass thing is good for me at regular price as it's to the point where there aren't any more games that i want to put my time into that i don't own. as such, won't be renewing, but i figured i'd toss in my two cents. decent deal if there's a month where you have a ton of free time and want to check out 5+ new releases w/o buying them (most of my games were stuff that would take a few days to finish and had no online play).

I went in Today to Rent a CoD WaW and it cost like 10.17, if they hadn't changed their policy about the late fees i wouldnt have a problem payin it cause i could keep it a bit longer but for the length of time i really should only have to pay 7 bucks.

Considering I am a Cheap Ass Gamer... I usually pay around $10-15 per title on average that I purchase... renting at $7+ just isn't worth it to me.

Nope. Renting is increasingly not worth it...
Although, there is a local place...that has a Tuesday special :)
$2 for a 2 day rental on any game.

I don't go to BBV anymore after they accused me of renting Zak and Wiki and never returning it. I went in one day and they told me I had to pay $40 for it, even though it was selling for about $15 at the time. Rogers is better anyways, so they get my business.

Darn, you beat me to it. First post on CAG and it is in the wrong forum promoting a crappy looking site.

Well, this is kind of true and it kind of isn't. As far as I understand it (and I should by now because I work there, but I still need to read the memo over again, because I'm a terrible employee), you are charged a dollar a day up until 7 days. At that point, the game autosells to your account and you stop racking up $1 a day charges. This is where the "you-might-as-well-hang-onto-the-game-for-the-full-37-days" part comes in, because that is when the 71 bucks would actually charged onto the account. If it's returned any time before the 37th day though, you would have the additional $7 on the account, plus I am assuming a $1.75 restocking fee (and minus the selling price for the game).

But yeah, I'll look it over again tomorrow. I know that it's a dollar a day up to 7 days though.

And yes, this is definitely a push for the game pass.

My bbv rarely has anything good to rent. Maybe it's because I live near a school, maybe it's because of the game pass. Either way this makes renting even less attractive to me.

exactly. at most, a brand new aaa title is going to cost me $30. something that i want to play that's maybe not worth preordering is worth waiting two months or so until you can get it

I agree 100%
I got the free trial and in the past month (still have until the 16th to cancel)I have beaten:

-Prince of Persia
-Dead Space
-Mirrors Edge
-Bond QOS
-Kung fu panda

I wont be renewing either, but this came in a lot more handy than I originally thought it would!

i rented and beat:
- prince of persia
- lego batman
- mk vs dcu
- afro samurai
- fight night rnd 3

and also rented mirror's edge, but i really did not like it. good deal, and none of those would've been games i'd have bought (except maybe fight night, but i'm kinda glad i didn't). it might be something i do again in a year or so to catch up on games i missed. getting it just after the xmas games rush was a good call.

Am I the only one who rented games regularly? It was perfect for all the great single player games that once you beat them there's not much else to do: Prince of Persia, Mirror's Edge, Dead space, and pretty much any RPG. For a game you only play once, $9.99 + $1.75 restocking fee to keep the game for a day under six weeks was pretty good.

its not good at all, seeing as if you find the right sale like rogers 2/40 deal, you could get newer releases for 20 bucks.

I dunno about anyone else but i would rather pay 20 bucks to keep the game rather than 10 bucks to rent it for a week.
