Well, the TV ads have started running, and I'm just curious as to what CAGs are thinking about Pandorum. I'm having a lot of trouble with it. It's usually pretty easy to spot a bad movie from a mile away, but I just cannot for the life of me make a call on this one.
I loved the original teaser trailer that was released. I thought it showed a lot of promise for a deep, psychological horror-thriller, even considering the big "From the producers of the Resident Evil films" right in the middle of it. The original teaser can be seen here. Unfortunately, the second trailer and the TV ads make the film seem riddled with Resident Evil brand shittiness and low budget, poorly choreographed fights.
Here's my problem: If "From the producers of the Resident Evil films" had been excluded from the trailers and TV spots, I think I would trust this movie A LOT more. Both the writer and director are fairly new, and really have no work to judge by, which means the only credentials attached to the film are that of the RE producers, and as we all know, putting "From the producers of the Resident Evil films" in a trailer is just like saying "DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE!" On the other hand, while producers do get the final cut, they really don't have too much to do with the film itself, they just fund it, and I don't want to prematurely judge a new writer or directer just because they had the misfortune of being associated with a shitty trilogy.
I guess I'd just really like to hear some CAG opinions, because I just don't know. Watch the trailers and tell me what you think.
