How do I figure out the specs on my computer?
Well, (in Windows 2000) you can try checking your system properties:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > General
That should tell you your operating system, how much RAM you have and your CPU type (assuming you or whoever built the computer set it up right)
The other information can be figured out by checking either the device manager or the beginning boot sequence when you turn on your computer. I believe the boot will tell you operating system, system RAM size, RAM type, video card (assuming no overclocking), CPU type and speed (again, assuming no OC). and sound card.
To find out what kind of IDE devices (hard drive, CDROM, DVDROM, etc.) you have, you must get into the setup view during the boot sequence... or you could just right click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and click on Manage. On the window that pops up, go down to storage and then disk management. Right click on any of the bottom grey areas that say Disk 0 or Disk 1 or CDRom 1, etc. and it should go into further detail.
Hope the explanation wasn't too wordy or extraneous
