Just out of curiousity, what brought the flocks of frugal gamers to this site? You can tell your story of your birth of a Cheap Ass Gamer here.

For me, my friend showed me the 2006 Circuit City Summer Clearance list and told me to go to Fat Wallet for the complete list. I was browsing through the FW thread I learned that the list originated from CAG. I then learned more about the CAG community since then and this site has been a HUGE money saver for a gamer like me and has been my favorite site to visit since then.

this site is also why I started to learn phrases like "YMMV" and the infamous "BACKLOG" which I currently have and perhaps will never see the end of it.

i joined in 03..mostly lurking... jumping between this site and a site that is now defunct vgtalk.com. After vgtalk went down I came here permanently...mostly lurking and reading...but I've been posting a lot more...

I picked up my GameCube in 04 (after sitting out console gaming since the SNES) and spent a year relying on a friend to let me know about any deals. I finally Googled "video game deals" or something to that effect so I could check things out myself, and CAG was the first thing I clicked. Lurked for a little bit, then joined up.

I was buying a lot of games last year, and literally thought: "There has to be a site about buying cheap games." So... here I am. I think my wallet might do a terrorist attack on my computer though.

Someone at dvdtalk mentioned the site to me and I ended up trolling the dvd section on CAG for awhile. I finally ended up getting off my lazy ass and making an account to check out video game deals. Certainly don't regret it. Checking the anime deals thread used to be the highlight of my day

Back in '03 when Ziff-Davis was still on Gamers.com. I lurked their forums a lot and one day there was a thread about a free PS2 game demo (can't remember which one). The thread included a link to a website called CheapAssGamer and I have been here ever since.

googling cheap games or something way back in the day of June 2004. First major thing that happened that was the circuit city summer clearance of 2004, so weird everyone talking about 2006 clearance. 2004 was the biggy for me.

I did a search for 'cheap game deals' on the net and guess which site came up as one of the first results?

Yep, kind of anti climatic, but thanks to CAG, I can also say I 'have a backlog' of games. The way I am going buying games, I won't need to buy a PS3/360 or Wii till 2015.

I also am thankful that CAG has many trade values posted, so I don't need to take in any games to GS or FYE and end up saying 'I got them here already, might as well trade them'.

So thanks again.....

Someone way back in 2003 was all over GameFAQ's talking about this site when it first started - I was here when CAG was just a baby, but I mostly lurked at the time.

I forget who he was and what he was even talking about but he was pretty adamant that this site was going to be huge.

Found here from a link or a friend or something, I don't know honestly. I lurked for a day or two then registered and ever since my wallet has hated me. I spend too much thanks to here.

Someone at ocremix.org mentioned this site. I specifically remember them saying that this site had destroyed their wallet, and I can see why now. I think after I simply retreated from that site's community, I went here. I mostly came for deals, but now I'm here for more than that.

The Circuit City 2004 4th of July $5 sale. A CAG came in my store with the list (I still don't know who that was) and let me have it when he was done. We didn't close for another half-hour but after seeing that list I was done working for the night. I was scooping up games like a crack addict. I saw the URL at the bottom and figured this was a site after my own heart. I still have a couple dozen games from that sale that haven't even been played yet.

One morning, I woke up with a horrible hang over and there it was on my pc, next to me in bed.

Where you're concerned that actually seems plausible.

I was trying to find a site that had peoples names and friend codes listed for animal crossing. I wanted to check out the wifi. Long story short, I never did play animal crossing with anyone, but Im on the site daily still.

My best friend told me about it. He's a member too, but just lurks. I lurked for a while too, although I came out of my shell after a while.

I first came here when a friend told me about how he was able to snag Skies of Arcadia Legends for cheap thanks to this site (this was back when the game was going for $50+ used on eBay).

So I checked it out and didn't see anything.

I didn't start becoming a regular until the $5 Circuit City sale... my brother told me about it after reading it on GS forums. From there, we ended up at ByteSizeDeals but ultimately arrived here (again for me) since there was a huge list posted here.

After that extremely excellent sale (we picked up like 20 games total and it only cost us $100) I figured this site was a godsend. And sure enough, a few weeks later, I was able to track down a copy of SoAL and was sold.

I stumbled onto this site when I was looking around for a good deal on a game I was about to buy online.

I initially found FatWallet, and then browsing around found a link on their site to CAG. Thank god I found that link, or I might of been a member over there.

You really come here for the deals, and then end up staying for the community.

friend told me about a good deal, i asked where he got that from, told me this site, i joined up, lurked, now i post when i feel like being an ass

Same.

Sex. Free Porn. Big Asses. Oh wait, that was BigAssHoz.com. I was searching for cheap games on Google and came upon this site.

I was googling for the next week's Sunday ads and found the site. Probably the best find I've ever made on the internet.

I lurked for a bit as well, has signed up but didnt remove the filter from my browser, and ended up waiting months before officially joining... I was a big collector back then, but my collection has tripled in the few years Ive been on this site

Glad I officially joined when I did, a while later and I would have missed the 5 dollar CC clearance bonanza... one of the best times shopping and trading Ive had

Although the clearance they had a year or so later that dragged to the point where many games dropped to 2 bucks... that was incredible... spending about 60 bucks and ending up with 2 huge bags of games... ahh the times

Damn, how many times will we have one of these threads? Just kidding, but I found CAG in a funny way because I was updating my Yahoo! page and saw a listing in videogames for CAG so I joined that day and have been enjoying ever since.

My friend suggested it to me since she knows I'm a gamer and in a perpetual state of near-brokeness. Been here ever since. :)

The interview with CheapyD on CNBC. I googled CheapyD, and here I am. I joined after the Best Buy Clearance Markdown this year.

I saw an article in the now-defunct XBM. I looked it up outta curiosity and haven't left since.

Sincerely,
The dude on the couch.

The June CC sale, because some dude on the Atlus forums posted it, and the whole listing process from there and other sites eventually lead back to here. Back then, when I first joined, I remember feeling like a child reading about how to get games for so cheap, mainly because at that time there were truly great deals. Right now, it seems like mainly everything is for crappy games or Xbox 360, but it's still my homepage and my favorite site ever, probably for years to come.

I did a search for "cheap games" or something, if I remember correctly. I joined up almost 2 years ago, and lurked 3-4 months before starting to post. I've bought so many games that I've found deals on here at this site. I used to buy maybe 1-2 games every 6 months or so because they cost so much. To think of all the money I could have saved if I had just found this site sooner.

I used to be a forum member of Gamepro.com and someone advertised it there back in Spring 2003. I was a lurker for a long time before I actually registered because they used to post all the deals on the front page back then and I felt no need to register. But then I did and have stayed in the community ever since :D

I was a member of Byte Size Deals, and people kept mentioning CAG. I never actually came here until the community really started to die, and I guess I've been actively posting since about August 2006.

I think I was intimidated at first because of how messy the site looks initially. It does seem really unorganized when you first come here.

i found out about this through a Video game community on Myspace.. someone had a CAG link.. went there.. then quickly got caught up into the "free stuff" threads.. then moved into the EB morning update thread (damn I miss those days..like really miss those days)

i did a yahoo search for "cheap video game deals" and this came up. i spread the word about this site to any REAL gamers that buy as many games as i do. this site has saved me a lot of money, but at the same time made me spend more because of the amount of deals i have found. i have bought a ton of games i never really even cared to play because of how cheap they were.

I was looking for gaming info. sites that could help me save a buck or two and this popped up. Looked around here for a bit and decided to join.

This site helped me save so much money it's not even funny. I was buying games for years at full price. Now, after being here, I can't bring myself to pay full price for games. My collection grew twice of what it would have been if I had to pay retail because of the information here. This place helped even more when companies started charging more for the next gen titles. Thanks Cheapassgamer for all the help and money saved!

I'm pretty sure it was a deal that was crossposted on slickdeals with a note that 'credit goes to X at CAG' or something to that effect. Later on in the deal thread somebody linked to cheapassgamer.com to explain WTF CAG meant and that's how I found this place.
