Hello,

I've been reading the forums looking for a 360 deal that suits me the best. I'm curious are these xboxes the JASPER chipset? Does it even matter?

wrong section, but the Jasper is basically an updated GPU/CPU of the current model 360's, meaning it runs quieter and uses less wattage and the hope is reduce the risk of receiving the RRoD... but the odds of you getting one soon is slim so it all depends on how long u wanna wait really... they are out there (mainly in Arcade models it seems) but again it depends on the Lot # (google this or go to the 360 section)

Arcade
Team FDOU
Lot 0843X
with a 150W power brick
preloaded NXE

this is how you tell its a jasper or not

imo with the NXE update and being able ot put games on teh hd, the chance of getting an RRoD if you use that for every game, isn't very likely, if at all

good point, i would think the likelihood is severely lowered (but still possible since they still generate excessive heat)

Sorry for posting this in the wrong forums. I assume the NXE update is available on all Xboxes and this makes the Jasper a nice upgrade but not a necessary one.

Look for a manufacture date of 10-23 or later. 843X with a date of 10-22 still had the 175W PSU while 843X 10-23 had a 150W PSU. NXE requires a HD if you don't have a Jasper. Jaspers supposedly have internal memory added for the NXE.

How do I do this if I buy it online? I don't mind paying full freight ($300) for a new XBOX if I can ensure that it is the Jasper model.

it was a rumor but just recently confirmed. http://www.360drives.com/profile/4057 read post #21. theres pics also provided. personally, i'd wait a bit before buying the console. maybe 'til the before/after christmas sale. rather be safe than sorry.

"All of this is a little confusing for me. Is getting the JASPER really that important?"

Jasper chipset almost completely destroys the RRoD (red ring of death, a hardware malfunction that basically kills your 360 unless you pay quite a bit to get it fixed) error. Meaning your 360 hopefully wont die within the first 2 years.

So yes, Jasper is pretty important. I'm personally waiting for Valhalla chipsets in Q3-esque of 09.
