What do think about the new ps2.
It's awesome. I didn't hesitate trading in my old one for the new one.
Really, 'cause I heard this thing overheats...

Traded in my launch PS2 for one (was making weird noises and wouldn't play Space Channel 5 anymore).

It's really cool how small this thing is. It does get fairly warm, but so far no problems. Plus it's almost silent, something my original one was not.

Haven't experienced any problems

I did the trade at EBGames on BF . . . traded in about $20 worth of games (no exclusions listed in the ad). Mainly, I was concerned that my old one would break down soon.

The big advantage with the new model is how quiet it is . . . nearly silent.

i always had friends complain there systems overheat. then i go over their houses and realize they have the system on carpet turned on with clothes on top of it :/

Yeah, I put mine in the dryer when I play it.

that's funny, i always played mine on top of the radiator when its on.

1. It's too expensive
2. It may have overheating problems

I won't even think about one until it hits $99

It's awesome. I only wish I had two of them, so I could sandwich them together and make love to them.

New pstwo is craptacular. Its great looking, but the lasers are very cheap and not as durable as the last ones. Just my 2 cents.

How do you know? Did your pstwo b0rk up?

Instead of being vague... I'll try to explain my experience a bit more. I got the PStwo for about $10 during the ebgames trade in promo. I've had 0 problems with it. It gets hot, but doesn't over heat. I figure the old PS2 gets hot too... but since it's big, the heat is probably closer to the core. As opposed to the PStwo, the whole system is pretty thin and the skin is close to the bones yaknow?

One thing I did encounter is that sometimes my controller goes crazy and inputs a bunch of different commands very quickly, but I think that may be the controller's fault... It's 1st party, but it's blue... and I bought it for $5 shipped off ebay new... I dunno.

I don't like that Sony dropped HDD support in the redesign. I'll probably buy one eventually when the price comes down a bit, but I like the original better for the time being.

I like the small size, But untill they release a HD for it I have no plans on ever getting one. The one other thing that bugs me is the fact that its top loaded, I pefer the tray mainly because I have it in a stack with my VCR, DVD Player, Stereo, Xbox and NES.

If I ever upgrade I might just finally retire my DreamCast and put the PSTwo next to my GameCube.

But the more I think about it the more it seems kind of pointless to upgrade when in 2 years I'll be upgradeing to a PS3. =/

My launch PS2 was already quiet enough. Wouldn't buy another one out of fear of it "dying" or making noise - Sony repairs DRE-inflicted PS2s free of charge as long as you didn't mod it, regardless of how long you've had it.

Exactly why I don't want to get one...

Just hope my 30001 can hang on for another year.

 It's the same price as the last one.

I like mine. I have had no problems with overheating, and it's very quiet compared to my last launch model.

as said before, needs HDD support. hdloader is my bitch (in a only legal sort of way). i'll just wait until the ps3 for a new ps2.

Kind of did the same thing except:

1) Traded in about about $10 worth of games
2) Didn't put my credit toward the slim PS2

Instead, I bought a Limited Edition Snow White PS2 for $200 shipped. Although I like the size, I think the new slim PS2 is ugly.

PSTwo is fine for me. It's just I don't really so much like how it opens X.x.. otherwise yes it is a lot more quiet and smaller ^_^ no problems with it so far.

I love mine, but there are some people who really SHOULDN'T buy this. If the trade-in deal was convenient for you (as it was for me, I was already in the market for a net adaptor), then picking up the new one was a good idea. If you have a good working PS2 and you're already online, or you are an HD user, then you have no reason to go buying this. Like someone said, if you're in that position you should just wait for the PS3!

Or have both of them hooked up at the same time... like me.

I use one PS2 for HDD games, since the disc loading is a little iffy, and the new PStwo for all regular games that don't support the hard drive.

I traded my old PS2 in during the EB sale, and am loving my PSTwo. No problems for me. And, my PSTwo doesn't really get hot, as some people around here say theirs do. Mine barely gets warm...

I was going to get one to take with me to Japan b/c I hear its much easier to play imports on it, but now I'm probly gonna stick with my old PS2 (w/HDD) and pick up a Japanese PSTwo when I get over there (if I even still need one).

If this thing drops to $100ish and somehow gets an HDD adaptor, I'll bite. Otherwise, I'm pretty pissed that Sony alienated its HDD users.
If you play a game with heavy constant loading, the system will warm up, but it's really not as bad as people say.
Right - it heats up, but its not like you could fry bacon or anything on it. I like it - I'd never had a PS2 before these came out and sitting on the shelf next to my xbox it's amazing how little space it takes up. Plus, top opening means one less thing to break.
I'm pretty pissed that Sony alienated its HDD users.
I find it hilarious that hardly anyone noticed when they droped the iLink port on the PS2 or how the only people who batted an eye when the port on the back of the PS were people who were planning on using the thing for Gamesharks. If you have a working PS2 with a HD port you got nothing to worry about. The same amount of games that were made to use the HDD will still come out even if the PStwo didnt exist because there are still millions of HD capable PS2s (although there are probably only thousands of HDD owners) so companies can still develope with the thought of adding HD features to games.

But if you wanted 4 years to buy a PStwo then in Sony's mind you obviously dont care about all that extra stuff or else you;d have had the full size system.

Sony wasnt expecting people en mass to run out and trade off their old system for the PStwo, it's just a cheaper system to produce in the last couple of years in the life cycle for people who may have bought the other two systems and were thinking about a third.

I traded my old one in too - however, I took the liberty of detaching the network adapter first, which I then traded in for $6 of credit - exactly enough for a near-mint Zone of the Enders, which I've been after for a long time.

Overall: old PS2 + 5 cheap, played out games = new PS2 + 1 used game.
