What do you want in Mario 128?

CAGiversary!
With the recent announcement that Mario 128 will come out on the Gamecube it may have got you wondering about what the game will be like. So, what do you want in this upcoming title?
Are you hoping for a 3D Mario 3 format game, or going back to it's 2D roots zionoverfire?
2D, actually I wouldn't mind an improved Mario 64. I'm mainly sick of this luigi's mansion and Mario sunshine shit.

I would like it to be 128 bits, I don't even care if Mario is actually in the game or not, I just want 128 bits, and the game to be called Mario 128
The return of Wart! :D
Wart was just a baddie in one of Mario's dreams, so to have him back would mean Mario would be taking another nap...

Personally, I would shaq-fuing cream my pants if we had another 2D Mario game. (like that would happen.) 3D wise, a game similar to Mario 64, but Mario definately needs the Fire Flower this time around!

I think the new Mario for the DS is 2D (not Mario 64, the other, original one that is not yet out)

well i think its safe to say that the next true mario game will be on the DS.. the "New Super Mario Bros." game...

i really dont see a new full out Mario game on the scale of Sunshine coming in the gamecube's cycle....

if it DOES happen... (which i doubt)

i'd want it in 3D.... with a hub level like SM64 and SMS....
and level based objectives with stars and such.... but
the key to winning the crowds war here... is MULTIPLAYER!!!

think about it....
the new 2d mario game you always wanted will be here on the ds... along with new wario, yoshi, and even princess games coming to suit your 2d based needs....

but what has been so absent has been the feeling of brotherly love... in 3d

Mario 64 DS perfectly showed off how Luigi is suitable for some 3d platforming....

now lets start some multiplayer "I'm 1st player and You're Luigi" chatter... just like the old days....

whether it be simultaneous or alternating... as long as the element of multiple players being multiple characters is FULLY and TRULY (i'm looking at YOU M64 DS) incorporated into a 3d mario adventure.... I'll be happy

What have you been smoking? Mario Sunshine has the whole need to drink and dumb gadgets and enimes thing, mario 64 may not be the best ever but its much better than Mario Sunshine.

Look at who you're talking to zion. Anything that comes out of his mouth is conveniently packaged with grains of salt.

Yes but I felt like a bit of a tirade so I did just that. :D

How about a 3D Super Smash Brothers like game, where you kick the crap out of little mushrooms and bowsers using good moves instead of just jumping on thier heads.

Hell, we can't even get a Smash Bros sequel at this point...

But to answer the topic, I think that you have to look at what made Mario 3 and Mario World so good... and go back to that.

Did anyone else see they're save game file as "Mario 128" in the Gamecube Dashboard when they saved in Mario Sunshine?

I did. But only if you save after the first level. Kinda odd.
Hell, we can't even get a Smash Bros sequel at this point...
Do we really need another on the Cube? I'd rather they wait until the next system before they make a sequel. That's one thing Nintendo has always been good about: no sequel overkill (save for Mario Party).

Why is Sunshine so hated? I personally thought it was a great game. Nice difficulty as well. Mario 64 was awesome as well but I don't think Sunshine is any less, if not more.

i also felt sunshine was quite enjoyable. really dont know why people diss it so much, if you liked mario 64 why the hell wouldnt you enjoy sunshine save for the fact you are disapointed it didnt revolutionize gaming? personally i dont care if the new mario 128 is revolutionary or not, if its fun and its mario ill buy it and play the hell out of it because its really as good as platforming gets, revolutionary or not...

by the way, i love how everyone wants mario games to revolutionize gaming, but if it were anything but a platformer (an old fashioned gameplay style) people would boycot nintendo and go on a killing rampage (or possibly something less dramatic)? dont you think those two standards contradict themselves when you form an expectation and hype? mario 64 was able to pull it off because 3d was new. come on, you have to give nintendo credit for what they actually have done and not what you assume they should be capable of in the future when gaming has no forseeable revolutions to come. i mean, the DS was brilliant because it introduced a new way to play games, and until these new ways are established there is no way to expect a revolutionary mario game. Now we can justifiably expect a new one for DS that is amazing because the DS itself has opened up a way to do so. that simply wont happen with current gen consoles though, so stop complaining and wait until gaming itself is capable of being revolutionized!

I finished Mario Sunshine for the first time the other day. I ended up with 75 Shine Sprites and I intend to finish out the collection. I think it's an alright game. If I were to gripe, It would be:

-Yoshi dies when making contact with water? Um, no.
-The camera will get stuck when it comes to making certain jumps or movement.
-The red coin pinball machine. Lost over 35 lives trying to get that sprite.
-I felt like the 'revelation' of who Shadow Mario is comes WAY too early in the game.

The real reason SMS is so hated on is because most people thought this would be SM64 all over again. Read that how you will. You have people who love/hate it.

I actually like the 3D Mario games a lot ... I don't know what to expect. I hope a graphics bump for one thing, and bring back things like the feather and the fireball throwing and stuff.

I would like to see Grand Theft Mario. An expanded Mushroom Kingdom, jackable karts everywhere, hidden coins instead of hidden packages, tons of 'weapons' like the fire flower or tanooki suit, princess peach in a thong... you know - whatever sells...

Being able to buy shit with coins, ala Paper Mario 2. If it were like SMB3 but 3d, that would be cool too, but the mechanics would be difficult.

SMB3 has a lot of forms in it, which would be cool. They need to bring back the ability to ride Yoshi too.

Actually it would be sweet just for the irony.

And how about this.... Peach is missing or "captured" BUT Mario finds out that she was intentionally getting "caught" in all the past Marios due to her affair with Bowser the pimp!!

It would be great to have that game... and i personally hate Grand Theft Auto games. But top have one in the Mario Universe would be worth a laugh

i thought SMS wasnt as good as SM64 and was way shorter, even though i havent played SM64 in like 10 yrs. some of the levels in SMS were so short that it shouldnt even be a level, like any level where u race to the finish, i swear i started the level and finished in like 20 secs, i guess the replay is getting everything in the game but there is no real reward for it. the hardest level to get all the blue coins has got to be the one with the cliffs and shells connected by ropes in the air, i had to shoot every part of the walls to find them all being more of a chore than fun. and the final boss seemed way too easy. i hated getting the red coins on the level where the pianta ppl threw u up in the air. climbing up the back of the ferris wheel where the water was flowing and u had to get on the gates had the worst camera, probably the most irratating part of the game IMO. but other than that i got my 25$ worth from that game
100 levels, all similar to the levels without the waterpack in SMS
One thing I don't want...

Water Pack

The levels also sucked.

The game doesn't need to be the second coming of Christ, maybe now it does with what Nintendo has said, all it needs is GOOD level design, some cool jumbs and the normal bad guys in many huge worlds.

Something like SMB3 meats mario 64.

Lots of big levels, plus have them more diverse then SMS.
No stupid coin collection levels (unless they are like the collect 5 red coins from Mario 64, but there should only be 1 per level)
All of the powerups from the 2d games, plus new powerups.
Some 2d levels and mini games.
A co op mode that takes the SP levels and reworks them that so 2 people need to work together to get Stars or whatever you need to collect.
Multiplayer modes.
It should be harder then SMS.

Actually, I think a GTA style Mario game could be done, similar to the Simpson's Hit and Run, and done extremely well. However, would it truly be a 'Mario' game any more than Paper Mario is a true 'Mario' game?

As much as I enjoyed Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, I personally would like to see an end to the fetch quests where you need to gather every damn thing in site: collect the red coins, collect the blue coins, collect the shines. Argh! I'm certain this was Rare's influence.

I like the idea of brining back elements of SMB3 too. This is long overdue. Finally, I agree the next Mario game should launch Nintendo's next console and not appear on the GameCube.

My one request.
No water pack.
Worst idea evar.

Reasons? Destroyed jumping for me cause I'd just rely on it to take me everywhere, and bad to turn around in cause of the arc you have to take while turning.

I would like a 2.5 D Mario game along the lines of viewtiful joe...

A completely true 2d game would be ideal but that won't happen.

Imagine the sprites the GC is capable of handling...
I want master cheif to be the boss and unbeatable.....
Well as a joke that's a bit funny, but I'm worried you might be serious.

It could be is M$ some how buys Nintendo... lol, im just jking for you people who don't know how to distinguish between sarcasm and not...

BTW, am I the only one who gets reminded of those "MAXIMUM CHECKING" commercials on tV? where they are like, What do I want for my bank? I want atms everywhere... don't give the minimum, I want the maximum!"

Its prob just me...

SMS annoyed me by trying too hard to have a plot and an elaborate environment. I pick up a Mario action game to play, not to talk to NPCs and conduct financial transactions. I don't need all of the window dressing to want to take on the levels. They're supposed to be their own reward in terms of being fun.

What I'd really like, on whatever platform, is a true sequel to SM64. Great gameplay without becoming mired in other stuff. Perhaps the DS is the best candidate for receiving such a title.
