What is a Clan?

mmm lol you must be REALLY new to online games xD... but anyway a clan is often started by one or a few people, and they "recruit" or accept people into that group sometimes based on how good you are in a game, or if you're a nice guy or whatever. Then the clan, or group of players, eventually gets big and you challenge other groups, each having their own name and tag, an example is like a group called fruit flies and their tag is FF or something.

It's similar to sports...a team and you challenge other teams.
 
thanks for clearing that up, yep I'm brand new to online games, I upgraded from the ps2 to the 360. I read that the online for the ps2 was pretty shitty, never played online. So I just waited for a 360 and now its all fun with Live

Yeah the online wasn't great, but Socom was one of the first(if not the first) console games to offer a decent clan system, which many current gen games still lack.
