Among vidya and film, I'm also a geek towards stand up. I hope that I can find a few masterpieces among a few of the other comedy enthused people out there. Here are my three favorites:

Modern stand up: Patton Oswalt - Werewolves and Lollipops, Brian Regan - Brian Regan: Live. Both of these are complete musts. No exceptions. Patton uses geeky humor and topical humor to an amazing extent, and Brian Regan plays with joke concepts to the point that it's beyond original.

Old stand up: Richard Pryor - ...Is it Something I said?. This is only recommended to people already into stand up, because there is barely any old stand up that ages well. Among the 4 Richard Pryor's and the 3 Carlin's, this one has aged the best. Also, Richard Pryor > George Carlin. This is how it has been and will always be.

Werewolves and Lollipops is brilliant. I was driving on the highway the first time I listened to it, and during the George Lucas bit, I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to crash.

I also like Steve Martin's Let's Get Small. That's a classic.

First one I ever heard was "Playin With Your Head" by the great late George Carlin. That album still holds a piece of me. There's been countless times where I put it in, just for his rant on sports.

But anything by Carlin is gold. Not too familiar with standup outside of him though other than the stuff I see on Comedy Central.
