What Makes a Cheap Ass Gamer?

Wahoozerman

CAG Veteran
I'm a student researcher taking a class in the design of various online communities. As part of this class I get to interview members of Cheap Ass Gamer in order to see how the design of the site and the nature of the community affects its members.

My first interview needs to be done by the 10th of March, with more interviews shortly after that. So I'm looking for a few brave CAGers to tell me what they think about the site, and give me some insight into what makes it tick.

If you want in on this, just post a message here or send me a private message and I'll be glad to set up some time we can chat. Interviews will likely be done over skype. (or some other voice chat program, I'm flexible)

I'll be out of town at GDC from March 1st through 4th, but I'll try to check my messages when I can and get back to people as soon as possible.

The kind that they staple to a card and pass out during "health fairs?"

A cheap ass gamer usually scopes for coupons before going to any video game store or electronics section in a store. A cheap ass gamer also buys generic brands over well known brands so he/she can build up a change jar to buy a PSN or 1600Pts card.

a cag can wait for a game they are dying for to drop to their price. most cag have a set price limit, for each its different but most have it, some wont pay over $30 for a brand new game others maybe $40 and others even less than $30. a cag shops around and looks for deals before buying anything and most are even nice enough to tell others so they can get the same deal. a cag is much like that coupon lady you always get stuck behind in the grocery store, not the annoying part but the always looking to get the most for their dollar

It's better that couple be cheap and get free condoms then bring another child into the world that they can't afford to take care of. A CAG is someone constantly looking for deals on games, accessories, and whatever else game or even life related. This community for the most part is a great place to be. I used to be a lurker but have since joined and loved chatting on the forums with people discussing games and deals. The trading area is a great place to get old and new games for fair prices/trades.

I'll have you know, my Planned Parenthood gave out condoms in the huge gallon Ziploc baggies in assorted styles, sizes, and colors.

*looks around* Hey! I was in college, and broke. And besides, how "free" is it, when my tax dollars are now helping to support it?

I think one of the main traits of being a CAG is patience. Patience for that game to drop $10 and $20 dollars in price, or for a coupon to turn up, and even more patience as you wait for it to get to you, because you chose the cheapest (usually FREE) shipping option.
