what (new) albums have you been listening to lately

Just wanted to see what people out there are listening to. So post it up, and give a little review about it and whatnot, so other can see if they might enjoy it and such.

I've been trying to catch up lately, Im a bit behind with my listening list. But here's what I've been listening to.

Ron Sexsmith - Time Being
He kind of sounds like Jack Johnson. Which is a good thing, it means the album is consistently enjoyable and listenable, but about halfway through you realize you've heard everything he's got, basically.
Recommended tracks: Snow Angel, I Think We're Lost

MC Lars - The Graduate
Saw this guy opening for Bowling For Soup and he did a pretty good job. The best comparison I can give is that he's like MC Chris (who also pops up on the album for a great track), except without the high-pitched voice, and he's not strictly for laughs, his songs talk about alot of issues. Though he isn't above jokes completely. Good guy.
Recommended tracks: Download This Song, Generic Crunk Rap, Roommate From Hell, Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock, iGeneration, Signing Emo

Morningwood - S/T
I was sucked in by the song "Nth Degree", it was just relentlessly catchy, and rockin, with a dash of techno influence. Also, their singer has the absolute cutest voice in this song, I swear to God. But, sadly the rest of the album doesn't live up to the power of this track in my opinion.
Recommended tracks: Jetsetter, Nth Degree, Nu Rock

Pilate - Sell Control For Life's Speed
I was onto these guys a few years with Caught By The Window, and they were a great find. They kind of sound like what might happen if Chris Martin had a younger brother, who grew up listening to the same music as his bigger brother, but said, let's make some music, but not quite as wussy. Quite a good album, but nothing that jumped out at me like on Caught By the Window.
Recommended tracks: Barely Listening, A Kind of Hope, Turn the Lights On, Hold the Line, I Won't Blame You

Pink - I'm Not Dead
Well, she certainly wants to go in a lot of directions, that much is evident. This whole album bounces around to every different kind of style she probably could think of. I admire that, but certain styles she tries just do not work for her, needs to focus a little more in my opinion.
Recommended tracks: Dear Mr. President, Stupid Girls, Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely), Long Way To Happy

P.S. If anyone would like an OiNK invite, send me a PM, I've got some spare ones.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

Tool - 10,000 Days

The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living

I enjoy them all greatly, that's as much reviewing as I'm willing to do at this time.

Fair enough. ;)

Tool-10,000 days

Ghostface killer- Fishscale

T.I.- King

I like some rock and tool is in that minority for me. And any rap fans out there I would suggest the other 2 albums for sho'. T.I. Is banging. Has alot of hot tracks on it. And ghostface is some good ol' fashioned wu tang awsomeness!
I really dig that Nth degree song too. Just not enough to pick up the album though. :whistle2:(
It is worth a download though, must say. Plus, I hear their live show is absolute craziness, but we'll see about that come tomorrow night. This little Katies gonna get crazy, methinks. :bouncy:

Bikini Kill - Reject All American: I overplayed "The CD of the First Two LPs" the past week, so why not play their second best (or is that third best) release? Far more raw and emotional than anything Le Tigre has done thus far (though I have a great deal of admiration for them too), Kathleen Hanna and the gang will, I lament, be ignored for the influence they had on early-mid 90's indie music. Makes me wanna read "Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist." The Kurt Cobain tribute track ("RIP") is the down point of the cassette (yes, them ol' things), and the title track one of the best.

Slant 6 - Soda Pop Rip Off: While those who know of them claim they only got a record deal b/c one of the members was dating Ian MacKaye, I don't know if that's true and I don't care. Low-fi, low distortion and still rocking as all fuck. Again, the title track brings out the bubblegum fan in me, loathe though I may be to admit it.

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell: It's all fucking Guitar Hero's fault.

Sisters of Mercy - Floodlands: I had no idea that Andrew Eldritch was such a pompous ass for a band that, while once well known, does not even begin to lend credence to the $3 million he wants to do a new studio album (and that's why he hasn't recorded since 1996). Recommended track: Dominion/Mother Russia

Extinction of Mankind - Baptised in Shit/The Nightmare Seconds: Just because you're no damned good without some crust in your day. Like cold black coffee, but harsher. Nothing remarkable, but their charisma brings up an otherwise poor recording and even poorer mixing (if that even happened). This template can be used, verbatim, to describe damn near any grind/crust band ever.

I'm certain there's more, but until I can rummage through my milkcrate of cassettes to find my X-Ray Spex tape, I can't think of anything else.

None More Black - This Is Satire

NOFX - Wolves In Wolves' Clothing

Yeah they're not bad, NOFX had already released most of them on the 7 inches and their EP though. They're getting lazy in their old age.

Symbion Project - Immortal Game

Pretty good downtempo electronic music. One of the projects of one of the dudes from Freezepop - Freezepop being one of the tracks from Frequency/Amplitude if you happen to have those games.

Hawk Nelson- Letters to the President- Great pop/punk cd, its all very positive so it doesn't make you want to kill yourself! yay!

Chicago Bulls greatest hits volume 1- Lol, I found it at my house and I can't stop reliving MJ and the old days.

as far as new stuff is concerned (which i see as stuff that's come out this year), i can only come up with two records at the moment. there's probably a few more, but i can't think of them right now.

mono - "you are there"

neko case - "fox confessor brings the flood"

The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia

Great album and the best one the Dresden Dolls have put out so far.

Every track off of this CD could be a single and the piano/drumming is mesmerizing.

Mr. Nogatco - Nogatco Rd

The legendary Kool Keith is back with a new album and new persona. This time he is rapping about UFOs in his signature off the wall way. It's a bit on the short side but I am still planning on picking this up tommorrow.

Kind of meant new albums, as it said in the topic, because I knew someone would come and talk about old albums instead, but whatever. I actually just beat GH like last night, finally 5 starred everything on all levels. :applause:, but now as a direct results of said ownage, I must stop playing for a few days to regain feeling in my hands again. Took me a while to get "Breaking Wheel" on expert but, now, thankfully I never have to listen to it again.

I do, have both. I'm a slave to Harmonix and their games.

Thanks for mentioning that, I didn't know he had a new album out. It's impossible to keep up with this guy sometimes it seems like.

Side note, listened to about half of the Sounds new album, not very impressed with it, it's listenable, but not outstanding. Same for Plums latest effort. The Rotten Candy compilation I got was really excellent, like 2 and a half hours of pure old-school feel musical bliss. After this though, it's on to the Streets album.

The Cardigans' "Super Extra Gravity"

The juxtaposition of lyrical content and vocals / music is brilliantly done -- as is the music, in it's own right. Beautiful.

Rob Zombie's "Educated Horses"

Handclappin' and tambourines with questionable lyrical content. Mmm-mmm!

Awesome. I'm going to pick it up this week if it's coming out tomorow.

Oh, shit!

*races to a peer-2-peer program*

I don't really usually listen to whole albums....just random songs on my gargantuan (and videogame soundtrack-laden) Winamp playlist. And when I do listen to whole albums, it's usually old or niche stuff, like Electric Light Orchestra's Time (great album) or Us and Them - Symphonic Pink Floyd (ultra great).

The only even slightly "new" full album I've listened to in it's entirety in a long time is Enya's Amarantine. That's pretty much it.

the Sea and Cake -- the Fawn. It's some nice, mellow, modern panty-dropper music, if not a little on the cheesy side.

...don't we already have a music thread though?

Is Tool 10,000 Days leaked already?
I looked it up as a release date of 5/2
...must leave work early?

Drive-By Truckers - A Blessing And A Curse

Not quite as rocking as their last album, but it's nice to see them take a more personal/less storytelling direction this time around. Still a very solid album other than a few of the later tracks and everytime I listen to it grows on me more. The first 6-7 songs are a great mix of what the three singer/guitarist/writers can do.

Tool

Anxiously waiting for an actual CD w/artwork in 7 days, but who's counting.

and

waiting for the new Les Claypool which is released in 35 days. But again, who's counting.

Tool, Les, & Pearl Jam. May is gonna be sweet for music.

which Les band is releasing an album? I know he's playing with Oysterhead at bonnaroo (that project seems like it has awesome potential)

Pearl Jam - "Pearl Jam" - could be their best CD ever
Tool - "10,000 Days" - very very good but not too different from anything else they've released

I'm loving both of these CDs right now.

Les Claypool & His Fancy Band,
caught this Les incarnation last summer @ Jillians, great show. It was a sweatbox, though. I hate these venues that have it over 100 degrees just because they think they'll sell more beer. Heck, my girlfriend even passed out from the heat. But, if you have a chance to see them, do it. They play Frog Brigade, C2B3, Oysterhead, Primus, Sausage, and Holy Mackerel stuff.

Mike Dillon - guitar
Skerik - Sax
Gabby La La - Eletric Sitar & other various instruments & vocals
and I believe Jay Lane will be on drums.

When I saw them last summer, Les played the Seas of Cheese on an upright electric bass equiped with a bow and in a gorilla suit.

Now that's entertainment.

It isn't new, but I've been playing "MM...Food" by MF Doom non-stop lately. It's just so damn good.

I've been listening to the Arctic Monkeys "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" a lot, too. The reason: I'm reviewing it this week for the newspaper I write for.

I like this CD a lot. I know they have been hyped to death but I think they delivered with a pretty solid debut.

I like it, too, but I think the problem with them is that they sound very much like other bands in the genre like Franz Ferdinand, in particular. It's not necessarily a bad thing because Franz is a good band, but I just hope that the Arctic Monkeys' next album has something extra to help it stand out more. With that said, I think it's amazing that the band members are around 20 years old or so and have such a great following.

I bought the new Taking Back Sunday CD today. It's not bad. A little more rock and a little less emo than their previous releases, which is a good thing.

Norma Jean - Oh god the aftermath. This is a great buy for any one who likes tours like ozzfest or sounds of the underground. The songs are hard and crazy.

Dead to Fall - this new album sounds more mellow than villany and virtue but its great.

Throwdow - vendetta. This is what a real hardcore band can do plus the themes are cool.

The red Chord- clients. An album for anyone who just wants to listen to mindless screams and hard growls, loving it.

Himsa- Hail Horror- t his is an instant classic. Its been a while since I listen to a whole album and thinking all the songs are great.

That looks pretty cool. Regretfully, I have yet to see any of his bands. Has Primus toured since that reunion tour?

 at you chiding someone else for going off the topic of the thread, even on a technicality. Once more, just 'cuz it's funny.

And, to stay on topic, I've been listening to Dystopia's "Human=Garbage," because it's eleven times as depressing as anything Eyehategod's released, and without the need for drop-d bass or having to slow down every song to a screeching halt that would make Black Sabbath seem like a speed metal band.
That looks pretty cool. Regretfully, I have yet to see any of his bands. Has Primus toured since that reunion tour?
Unfotunately, no.
But Les has said on more than one occassion that he will always go back to the well and do Primus stuff. So have no fear, Primus will eventually return.

By the way, Les has a movie coming out soon called "Electric Apricot". Les plays the drummer.
