What will be the last US released Gamecube game?

Any predictions? Most likely it will happen this year.

EB currently has Backyard Basketball 2007 listed as coming out in October 2007, but somehow I think that will be cancelled. My guess is it will probably be that TMNT game due in March.
 
You know, given the 100% backward compatability I'm surprised there isn't more support for continuing the Gamecube a little longer.
 
Won't EA squeeze out a few more titles this year? I can see one more Madden and the Order of the Phoenix game on the 'cube, easily.
 
This rationale isn't all that valid though if you look at the gba dying off despite "backwards compatibility" with the DS. I wish the GBA and GC would continue to receive support but I doubt it now.
 
right now, the last scheduled gamecube game appears to be Ratatouille on 6/26

the EA press release about the new harry potter doesn't say that the game is in development for gamecube (wii, 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, GBA, PC), and since EB/GS isn't taking pre-orders for a gamecube madden 08 either... i'd assume that EA has abandoned the system...
 
I could see some more Gamecube releases, but only if they are allowed to rebrand the cover with a "compatible with Wii" note. Yes it's pretty well known that Wii is backward compatible, but I think that those Gamecube games will have some stigma... especially when they still release at $40.

I think by now we can take "continued GameCube support" to mean "we'll continue to let stores sell Player's Choice titles instead of recalling them and putting them in a landfill."

It's full steam ahead for the Wii and DS... GBA and 'Cube are dead to Nintendo. But they kinda have to do it that way, don't they? Look at the flak Sony's taking for God of War 2 being a PS2 title instead of being the first huge PS3 exclusive.

At this point in the next gen game, it's critical to throw all efforts into the new systems to re-assure prospective buyers and boost marketshare.

Actually I think Wombat's the only person giving Sony flak about that. The PS2 has 100 million consoles out there, they have a strong reason to still support it.
 
I think the PS2 library is going to dry up pretty quick after GoW2 though, but at least it gets one more mega title before falling by the wayside, although that Tomb Raider remake should be great as well, but I won't be surprised if that gets ported to 360 or some other systems as well.

this thread should be titled 'what will the last good US released Gamecube game?' Cos I think we'll be seeing licesned cartoon series and CG movie games for another year at least.

Hopefully we'll see another shmup on the system, and some of those anime license games for the cube were pretty good. We may see some more Naruto, One Piece, and Dragonball games before the cube is done.
 
I agree with SinnerChrno. I really hope that D3 Publishing will bring the 3rd and 4th Naruto fightintg games to the U.S. Also, bring the Bleach fighting game to the US while they are at it.
 
I predict that it will be some movie or cartoon license. And it will probably be a surprise that came out of nowhere to some, like when Tony Hawk 3 was the final N64 release.

^ That was really annoying, it was like 4 months wasn't it? Since I thought they made the announcement in October 2001 and NHL 2K2 was the last game and came out in Feburary 2002.

I would have thought the next Tony Hawk game but since Project 8 wasn't released for Gamecube I don't think the new one will be either.

I'm going with Madden 2008 as Madden 2002 was one of the last N64 games and Madden games seem to be released long after most companies stopped supporting the system like how PS1 had Madden 2005 released.
 
That's surprising (especially about XBox). I would have thought at least Madden 2008 would be released for both XBox and Gamecube.

I thought that Powerpuff Girls game was the last N64 game. What month did Tony Hawk 3 come out?

Powerpuff Girls came out in October 2001 - Digital Press says October 31st, GameRankings says October 14th.

Both sites say Tony Hawk 3 came out August 20th, 2002. One hell of a surprise release there, huh?
 
I don't even know why they bothered with Tony Hawk 3 at that point. It was only a few months away from Tony Hawk 4 and with 3 out for PS2, XBox, Gamecube, PS1, GBC, GBA (I know the portable versions aren't the exact same game) and maybe even the PC as well, the only way someone would buy it is if all they had was a N64.

I guess it's better than ending with the Powerpuff Girls though.
 
Well if EA didn't hate the GC I'd say the last game would be Madden 2010 or something. I mean, didn't Madden 04 come out on PS1?

I guess that's why I saw a bunch of clearanced out Tony Hawk 3's at TRU for a few bucks a couple years ago, as they were getting rid of their N64 stock. Nobody was interested in it for N64. Their remaining N64 stock consisted of a ton of Tony Hawk 3's, a few Powerpuff Girls, and a few RE2's.

I remember going into EBgames and seeing a cardboard display saying "N64 fans, we haven't forgotten about you!" I was amazed to see that release. Odd as hell. I'd like to see the sales figure on that game.

"GBA dying off"? What, the DS has been out for two years now and it still gets quite a few major-exclusive releases...

We'll be lucky if the GameCube gets one major exclusive at all from this point on. Heck, we'd be pretty lucky if it got any exclusive at this point on, even some new Hello Kitty game.
 
Yeah any exclusives seem doubtful. Licensed games almost always come out on PS2 as well which as someone mentioned earlier are probably going to be a lot of the last releases for Gamecube

The Perrin Kaplan statement has been refuted by other Nintendo Execs as inaccurate. Perrin has gained a reputation overstating things, and this is just more of the same -- Nintendo officially still supports the Cube.

EA dropped Gamecube dev like a hot potato. The lack of Order of the Phoenix for the GC is a huge disappointment IMHO (esp given the ease of multi-platform porting) -- though EA probably views the affordability of upgrading to the Wii, and Nintendo brand loyalty that encourages upgrading from the GC to the Wii as a deciding factor. The larger cost issue probably has less to do with actual GC development, and more to do with quality control and testing of the final port, and finding shelf space for a platform that most stores are discontinuing.

As far as GOW2 on the PS2 -- it makes perfect sense for Sony -- the PS2 install base is huge, a large part of the development was already done with a pre-existing game engine, pre-existing textures and animations, etc. With a backwards compatible PS3, Sony can sell GOW2 to all the PS2 owners and the PS3 owners. I normally agree with Wombat on most of the things he says -- but for Sony, GOW2 on the PS2 was a no brainer. Not to mention the PR Sony gets from putting a top tier title on their older console ala Twilight Princess -- does anyone remember the original XBox anymore?

Maybe the profits from GOW2 will help pay off the Immersion lawsuit ;-)
 
I was really hoping that Naruto: Clash of Ninja 3 and 4 would come out, but it doesn't look that that'll be happening anytime soon. It's weird, Nintendo Power claims that a new Naruto game for the Wii is coming out... Which means Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX, but that takes place in Shippuden, and the english dub is only 2/3 through the regular Naruto as it is.


It doesn't make sense. They just need to translate and add voicovers. Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 was the greatest fighter on the Gamecube, and probably the best I've ever played on any console.


Too bad the last game will be some movie cash-in.
 
im just waiting for a wii free loader to come out so i can get EX. thought about getting wiikey but id rather not have to mod the console. as far as last gamecube game, id go with Ratatouille (crappy movie game)
 
I wouldn't go by Nintendo Power. I did that maybe 6 months or so ago, and I went out and bought a Cube. I am enjoying the games it does have, but that is pretty shitty to show Super Paper Mario at E3 and then a few months later move it to Wii. They simply showed it to imply they were supporting the system. I trusted Nintendo Power. They listed Kirby, Super Paper Mario, and a few others that got me excited. All of a sudden half the games on their release list are gone or moved to Wii! Dirty pool, mister, dirty pool.
 
Well, I'm going by them because I haven't heard anything about it from any other source. I really hope that at least the 3rd Clash of Ninja game comes out over here.

As for all the GC titles moving to the Wii... Well, I think that was clear once TP was moved to the Wii.
