whats a diff. from a reg. dc and the black one?

Yep, it is the Sports Edition. It has the Sega Sports logo on the lid and is somewhat more sought after than just the standard DC.
 
1. The black sports dreamcasts are more rare than the white dreamcasts, but not as rare as the pink hellokitty dreamcasts.

2. From what I hear, the black dreamcasts are more likely to be able to boot off of CD-R than the white ones.
 
Give me one of these babies, and I'll be a happy camper. This is the ultimate Dreamcast, IMO.

the Black DC's had the newer lenses capable of reading most CD-R's, well atleast being less problematic with them, mostly sought after because they were black and limited, the fan in the black DC was also plastic which apparently provided better cooling, as far as rarity goes the (J) R7 model was rarest, followed by the Hello Kitty model with matching keyboard & VMU

I've only ever seen 3 of these rare(r) black Sega Sports DCs... and of course I purchased the complete unit w/ controller in practically mint condition. :)
 
To look at them, the only differences between the black and white DC systems are the overall system color and the blue/white Sega Sports logo on the black model. Yes, it's neat to have a black one, but when the white model can easily be found for at little as $9.99, only you can decide if it's worth an extra $15 or more to own a black model.
 
Not again - here's the table

American Dreamcasts (Black) manufactured before 9999 A.D. - can read CD-Rs.
American Dreamcasts (White) manufactured before 9999 A.D. - can read CD-Rs.

If you have an american Dreamcast that cannot read CD-Rs, and not because it's damaged - congratulations! You have a very very rare Dreamcast.

Many other Dreamcasts are rarer than those 2 (especially the Hello Kitty one). Not trying to sound like a dick but you should brush up on your DC knowledge before saying what the rarest Dreamcast is.
 
well eldad9 i guess I had a few of your very very rare DC's I should have Ebayed them , I went through a 3-4 of them before I got the black one I have now, there in fact were tons of DC's that were problematic with Backups, mainly because the lenses sucked, so far the black one's have the best track record, as far as the other DC's the R7 & HK are the 2 most highly sought after, the one's you mentioned faded into the sunset,along with a few other models...

I actually have 2 of the Black units. My second one I found at a flea market yesterday & bought for $20.00. I only bought it because it had the black sports conroller with it. My first unit did not have it. I now own 4 Dreamcast's! It seem's that the Black sport's controller is harder to come by than the System itself. And no, I don't want to sell one.

You heard wrong. No Black DC that I know of have been able to boot backups.

Black DC = Worst rare collectable ever
