I saw some gameplay vids of pikmin 2 on cinematech...looks interesting. anyone care to describe it to me? also, how's the first one? the 2nd one looks like it's still around 40 used(too much!)

its really different. I haven't played the Pikmin series too much, but I played the first one for a bit. You control a bunch of little dudes (Pikmin) and you gotta get through various levels and such to get the objective, very good game and I would recommend it to anyone.

While I don't own either of the games, they are pretty good, but they are very easy. You find and control little plant creatures (Pikmin). You use them to fight creatures, move items, and gather parts to fix your ship. (You are stranded on their planet in the first one.) You should give it a try.

Story is, you crash land on a alien planet, and recruit small plantlike creatures to help you recover your broken ship in order to take off. There are 3 different types, each with its own special talents. They work together to defeat enemies, and carry parts for you.

First Pikmin is very fun, though short. I think it took me 10 hours or so, but i didnt recover all my ship parts, just enough to take off.
Havnt played the second, though i do own it. (no time)

Lemmings + Warcraft. I rented Pikmin 2 and both my wife and I liked it quite a bit, but didn't feel compelled to buy it or its predecessor.

Pikmin is one of the best games this generation. It's short but sweet - perfect length, IMO. I still haven't played Pikmin 2 though because it's way too expensive...

I've played the hell out of both the Pikmin games, and they definitely aren't easy.
The game's actually very little like real time strategy games, which I dislike... so I dunno what kind of game it is. The idea is this - you grow different Pikmin who all have different abilities. The goal in each game is to collect certain items that are too heavy for your main character to carry. So the Pikmin follow you around - up to 100. You use the little guys to fight, gather treasure, gather little pellets that grow new Pikmin, open gates, and do other little puzzle things. In a way, since you're controlling a hundred different little guys, it's like RTS, but since you control nearly all of them at once and everything's action based (you'll do a lot of Pikmin tossing), it's way more intense. I haven't ever played anything like it.
Pikmin 1 is a pretty short game (since you have a time limit to beat the game - which is not too limiting), but it's a lot cheaper than Pikmin 2. On the other hand, Pikmin 2 has no time limit and is more polished in every imaginable way.
I do like the games.

In addition to blue, red and yellow, Pikmin 2 also has 2 new types of Pikmin (purple and white) which have new and different abilities. The plot is that Captain Olimar (leader of the Pikmin) has learned his native planet is bankrupt and must return to Earth to collect items. Each item is awarded a monetary value. I believe he needs to amass 10,000 points/dollars to save his planet. The interesting thing about Pikmin 2 is all the product placement. The Pikmin collect items such as Duracell batteries, Dr. Pepper bottle caps, Chapstick and my favorite, the D-pad from a NES controller.

Pikmin (both) is "easy" to pick up and play but it has a good deal of depth and subtlety to the play.

Simple but beautiful graphics. It is RTS but the boring aspects (IMHO) are stripped out in favor of action. It is like comparing Zelda to Final Fantasy.

Definitely one of the reasons to own a Gamecube . . .

Start with the first one and savor it . . . then the second one shines much brighter.

I bought the first at launch (got a big cool poster at Kmart with it) and got 2 at Target with a raincheck ($28) last year. I liked the first one a little more than the second but mostly because it was cool to beat a game after 12 hours (enjoyed the challenge modes afterward) whereas 2 is kinda endless and gets really tough . . . more like an RPG.

SOLD! :D

I thought i saw a Pikmain 1 for like 10 bucks somewhere, gonna go search that out.

It is like pure awesome. I didn't get Pikmin until I found it for $5 at last year's CC sale, it is awesome. I'm eagerly awaiting Pikmin 2's price drop.
