I love the stuff, but have always heard rumors and hearsay about the chemicals in it being terrible for you. I've become so accustom to the flavor that I can't drink regular soda anymore.

So, CAG nutritionists, Coke Zero - good or bad? and why please? I have a pretty good understanding of nutrition (aced it in college) so please don't feel bad about getting scientific with your answers.

Thanks!

And what's the deal with this Coke Zero? Does it not exist? Zero is nothing. Why not call it Coke Nothing?

:applause:

I love Coke Zero. Drink it every day, one can a day.

Love going to Salsaritas and Chick-fil-a, as they serve Coke Zero.

I have changed my soda quota to 1 a week when going out or whatever.

Soda causes the beetis, f's up your teeth and costs $2 at a restaurant.

I just wish the Coca-Cola Company would force all restaurants that have Coke fountain drinks to have Coke Zero.

Diet Coke in a can is bad enough, but fountain Diet Coke is discusting.

This!

Sprite Zero is good too.

But yes, I too enjoy Coke Zero. It is the only soda I drink when I decide to have soda, which isn't everyday.

Use a straw, helps alot when it comes to tea & soda staining your teeth.

But anything with aspartame and sucralose has been highly debated on the effects, that's why you probably hear about it being bad is because of the aspartame. Personally, artificial sweetener stuff gives me a headache so I don't drink it.

I'll have a soda every now and then but when you get into drinking water it's addicting. You need more. Heh. And cheaper!
Thanks for the few of you that tried to help.

Interesting read:

You can go really deep with the conspiracy stuff when it comes to aspartame. Dick Cheney and Haliburton eventually get involved. Keep going and you'll find people dying of it, people saying it's a mind control drug, and like the thing I posted, being used in a far reaching plot of the illuminate to wipe out billions from the face of the earth.

Do you have a link to the Cheney / Haliburton involvement? That alone is enough to steer me clear of the stuff.... Cheney and Haliburton seem to have a hand in everything that is wrong with this world.

I love Coke Zero since it doesnt taste like shit (Diet Coke is nasty!) and doesn't have the calories of regular coke, but I do try to limit my consumption of Coke Zero to only 2-3 times a month. And I agree, they should just end diet coke, and make all stores and restaurants carry coke zero!
Aspartame, the sweetener is most diet soads, is considered by many to be a tool of the global elites that is being used to posion and reduce global population to further their world domination plans.

Anything that has Alex Jones in it, I immediately discredit. That man is insane with all of his conspiracies.

I do believe Aspartame is bad for you, but it definitely isn't some biological weapon used to control the world's population.

Also in the video that guy shows Splenda as an aspartame product, when it really is a Sucralose product.

Aspartame has been linked to brain tumours, however, the amount of aspartame one would have to consume is beyond ridiculous, if you drank coke zero all day long, only stopping between cans for breathing, you would be about a seventh of the way there.

Anything else, fuck would I know, oh and coke is nasty, in general.

coke zero and any other diet soda are disgusting. either drink the good soda or dont drink any at all. just think for a second how ironic diet coke is. if your on a diet, why are you drinking coke?

This. It's the same crap people have been going crazy about for years. As far as artificial sweeteners go, every one of them is "bad for you". Years ago, all you heard about was saccharin, and how it caused cancer. The media runs wild with it, terrorizes the general public, and nobody ever stops to question just how much of it you would need to consume to ever experience any effects. So, technically, it may be "bad for you", but guess what...so is sugar! So are a lot of things. I've heard the argument that milk is bad for you.

We eat wheat bread in our house, and my wife has read some things saying only certain kinds of wheat bread are good for you. If you buy into too much of it, it'll drive you nuts! The thing I always say is that it's better than the alternative. Like anything, as long as it's in moderation, most likely, it's not going to kill you. There's something to be said for just enjoying your life. You could be the most health conscious person in the world and get hit by a bus tomorrow. This isn't license to be a fat slob, but it's not like you're going to cheat death by avoiding Coke Zero.

Just curious, but how old are you?

ANYTHING is bad for you if you eat or drink too much of it. Drinking too much Coke Zero would probably result in some caffeine related problem.

Next time you want to drink Coke Zero OP, stop. See if you can find Aspartame in a syringe. Then inject the stuff into your kidneys. Then play Resident Evil 5. For da' Uroboros! Complete. Global. Saturation!

Most bread sold in the USA is considered illegal by standards in the rest of the world due to a chemical used in it's rising phase. I have stopped buying most brands of bread because of this and now look at the ingredient list much more closely when I do buy bread that is not organic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azodicarbonamide

Use of azodicarbonamide as a food additive is banned in Australia and in Europe. In Singapore, the use of azodicarbonamide can result in up to 15 years imprisonment and a fine of $450,000.

In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive has identified azodicarbonamide as a respiratory sensitiser (a possible cause of asthma) and determined that products should be labeled with "May cause sensitisation by inhalation."

What is azodicarbonamide?

It is a chemical whose primary use is “in the production of foamed plastics.”

So are we being poisoned? Should we look out for this now when buying bread? Is this just another way of American companies killing their customers all while making a quick buck?

No offense, but you're a nutbag if you buy into all that. If you want to read way too much into anything, you can. Until someone's autopsy report shows "Cause of death: bread", I'm not going to psycho-obsess about the tiniest things that don't make a fucks worth of difference. Are you going to live longer because you eat organic bread? I seriously doubt it.

Life causes cancer. Old age sucks, so fuck it if you die a few years earlier due to some cancer causing chemical in something you enjoy. At least you had an enjoyable trip to death, as opposed to Mr BREADISGONNAKILLME over there.

It's one of those things not worth worrying about. You'd have to consume huge amounts of aspartame or splenda to have any negative effects.

I try to be pretty healthy with eating, working out etc. and keep myself in pretty good shape. Life's too fucking short to waste time obsessing over everything you eat or drink IMO. I have 1 or 2 diet sodas (usually Diet Dr. Pepper or Coke Zero) a day, have 1 or 2 beers 4 or 5 evenings a week, eat a crappy meal out once or twice a week etc.
Lord Jezo, i heard that the internet causes foot cancer and CAG.com causes wallet obesity. Better stay away!
More like CAG causes wallet anorexia. Too many deals!

the only soda I like is Mt. Dew... unfortunately, I'm addicted to it. I gave it up for a good year or so, now I seem to have 170 calories of it a day, which is just stupid.

but seriously, it's addicting and it's tough to not drink one when I am relaxing.

I am real down on Diet sodas.. they are worse for you IMO.

The deal with Coke Zero is simple: men think Diet Coke is for girls so Coke's marketing department came up with Coke Zero.

The Pepsi soda without calories that isn't Diet Pepsi was especially unsubtle about this distinction in their marketing.

True from a marketing standpoint, but there is a decent difference in taste between Diet Coke and Zero.

I'd drank Diet Coke for years before Zero came out, but will take Zero now if both area available. Just has more bite to it.

Do you use protein powder when working out?

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...-drinks/whats-in-your-protein-drink/index.htm

Arsenic, lead, and mercury has been found in most major brands.

I do and I read those things before and don't worry about the tiny amounts of those things either. And I use the Optimum Nutrition one listed there, that's way under the daily limits.

There's trace amounts of shit like that in most all processed food products.

Life's too short to worry about that stuff. I work out mainly to keep looking and feeling good, not to extend my lifespan.

There's no guarantee you'll live that long. Any of us could die tomorrow or when we're 35 or 40 or 60 etc.

Better to enjoy life and live it to the fullest than obsess over health at every step. One needs to be healthy to enjoy life, so it's important to take care of yourself. But it's going to far to worry about shit like asparatme, trace metals etc. etc.

35 would be short. But generally, life isn't short. 75+ years, spending your last years taking it slow, and sleeping, is not short.

Again, point is just that it's uncertain.

And 75 years probably still feels pretty short when you're at that age and get diagnosed with a terminal illness etc.

Best to make the most of the time we've got and not worry about little things with an uber miniscule chance of causing cancer etc.
diet coke= oxymoron. like saying diet fat.........
Dude, why do you constantly post dumb shit? If you don't like the taste of diet drinks, fine. That's a preference. But what part of a 0 calorie, artificially sweetened drink makes you fat?
