Well I pre ordered Disgaea 3 while back with $35 gift card + $20 from my credit card..
Well like the game never arrived so I called up GS and they told me they somehow got the game returned to them... Well I got bit bummed out since I wanted the sound track and all... so they told me they will refund the money back to my credit card and return $37 to my gift card (but I threw it away after pre-ordering). so I was like aww geeze... and thought I just lost $35 stupid GS never shop their again!!!!

But week later GS didn't credit my credit card, so I called them up again. Some rep told me they couldn't charge the card back so they would send me new $65 gift card. He added extra $10 for the inconvenience and stuff. So I was happy and everything...

Week after I get my $65 I check my credit card balance and GS refund went through... So I was like LOL GS paid me for screwing up... and month later I got $35 GS gift card in my mail, and wonder what this was... And I realized that it had the same amount as the gift card I used to pre order...

In short:
I paid GS $55
and they refunded: $120

I just wanted to share my awesome experience with GS and I was wondering if anyone else has any positive experience with them or others...

FYE didn't give me a 30 dollar rebate on my PS2 once when I recorded a video with my phone and took pictures of whatI sent it. Mainly becuase I was tired of them denying crap. Anyways contacted the rebate place once and was like screw it thats enough. Consumerist had the contact info the executives so I sent them off an email with my pictures. They actually called me and offered me a 30 dollar check or a 50 dollar gift card. I took the gift card. Then the rebate went through like 3 months later out of no where after being denied and it ended up being for 50 also.

I have good experiences at GameStop most of the time.

The GSs that I shop at do not ask you to preorder anything, do not ask you to subscribe to their magazine, and do not ask if you want a used version of a game.

It's weird (and amazing), and I like it. Plus, when you do preorder something or subscribe to their mag, they usually will give you a freebee, usually a preorder bonus they have leftover from a different game.

I've had that exact thing happen to me too, sleepydumbdude, except that they refunded me in cash at the store level($30 rebate) and about 2 months later I got what looked like a postcard from them and lo and behold it was a rebate check printed on postcard stock.

Another instance where I got a hell of a deal was just after the slim PStwo came out, I found out that FYE was giving $14-15 for a shitty game for PS2 that I was getting at Gamestop for $.99-2.99.

The game: Powerdrome Racing for PS2

Good times. I must've traded in around 13-15 copies, then I did the above mentioned $30 rebate that took forever for the PStwo. So after being double compensated for the rebate, I ended up getting paid to take the PS3 off their hands.

Pretty much the same kind of experiences I have at the two GS stores in my city. Never have any real problems.

I get this treatment from three of the six or so GameStops in the area. The rest are the typical shitty service GSs. Though I've never gotten any freebies for getting the card or preordering (aside from what I was supposed to get). The only freebie I've gotten was a Guild Wars for standing around and talking to the guys for an hour. I didn't even want it

I ordered the Guitar Hero X-Plorer off Toysrus.com for $10+$7 shipping. 4 days later it hadn't shipped yet so I shot them an email to see what was going on. I get a reply back apologizing and they refunded the cost of shipping. An hour later I get a shipping email and the next day the guitar arrived. Not the greatest deal ever but that's some quality customer service.

Good experience at a used game store? Not likely. Crap trade values, overpriced copies of incomplete games, boxes that are mangled...

Other retailers provide adequate service, just good enough to keep me shopping with them and no better.

I never really have problems with my GS. All the employees there are cool people that'll take care of you and hook you up with free shit. I always hear all these horror stories that people have about GS, but I never see any of that here. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

If your talking non-games my grandfather walked into a local hardware store and wanted a part for a toilet, instead of buying a new toilet he just wanted the part. Well the part was not available so the guy went up to a display toilet and just took the part off there and gave it to him and sent him on his way without any charge at all for it. I thought this was truly exceptional service.

The GS's around me are good except for bad corporate policies like gutting games and putting stickers on game artwork (but please don't turn this thread into a whole discussion about that) but I have not had any above average experiences with them. A couple times I was able to take various clearance items up to the target service desk which were out of the system, explain to the girl there that they were supposed to be 75% off, and get it for that price, but again that is pretty par for the course and is not really considered exceptional service. In reality they were able to sell something to me that they probably would have had to discard or donate.

My gamestop usually isn't that bad. I also get the stickers on the manual but it usually comes of, not all the time. I like when I get to mingling with some of them about games. I can be in there for hours.

A few years ago, before the local Flea Market closed up shop, there was a booth on the corner of the inside building that sold videogames- they always had good stuff. not crazy-good prices, but cheaper than Ebay. Anyway... my first purchase from was a Genesis model 2 and Sega CD combo. My Sega CD had just died, and the Model 1 Genesis was obviously on its last legs, so I bugged my folks for a 10 dollar loan to get the 40 I needed to buy it. When the guy went to gather up the nessecary cables/controllers, I told then I only needed the cords for the Genesis, since I was replacing another system and already had everything else. He told me to wait a minute, went to talk to the other guy at the booth- then came back and told me they'd knock $10 off the price for me. I was pretty stoked about that. I asked them if they might have use for the broken system I had at home, they said they'd look at it. I brought it the next week intending just to give it to them for parts- and they gave me $10 for the Model 1 Genny's cords.

Later on, I also got half off a Secret of Mana cart becuase it was "Really Dirty" (their words.) I didn't ask, they offered. I really miss that booth.

My mom got some great GS service back when Lunar: Sliver Star Story went out of print. I found out it was going away and begged for it for Christmas. Mom went from store to store asking for it, and was basically laughed at... but one GS employee looked it up in the system and found a store with 1 copy still in stock, and called in to put it on hold. She also bought Lunar 2 for my birthday- despite not pre-ordering, they still gave her the Ghaleon punching puppet promo- which I was absolutely stoked to have (and still do.)

I once got an invisibleshield for my ipod and it hadnt come like 3 weeks after ordering it so we called them and they said theyd send another. the next day the 1st one came, and soon after the 2nd one came. only got about $15 for that but still..
