Since the main Game of the Year thread is dominated by console games, the suggestion was made to handle handhelds separately. So what's your portable game of the year?

For me I think it's Phantom Hourglass, runners up being Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles and Hotel Dusk.

I'll say Phantom Hourglass and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles as runner up.

Nothing really that impressive this year. Plenty of good games, but not many great ones for me.

I could give it to games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Disagea but that just wont be fair. Probably Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Haven't gotten around to Zelda yet, but it has little hope of beating Picross DS for me. DJMAX Portable 2 is a close second.

Wow...people not being sure about so many games even being released in '07 says something. It says that while it's a totally boring choice, I gotta go with Phantom Hourglass. It is mostly on the 'too easy' side, and I do wonder how well it would be received using the "Legend of Frank" principle.

For me, I'd say hotel dusk simply because it brought something new to the handheld market that hadn't really been done before all that well, and did it excellently.

Then if I had to pick a runner up, I'd say Picross DS. Unlimited replay value.

Tie between Phoenix Wright 3- an overall great end to a great trilogy- and Silent Hill Origins- a valiant effort and good entry into the Silent Hill canon by a new developer.

The only new for 2007 portable games I have are Theme Park for DS and Diddy Kong Racing (Theme Park isn't opened yet). I didn't like Diddy Kong Racing much so even though it was released in 2005, I am going with Hot Shots Golf Open Tee as I picked it up this summer for $2.97 at Sears and have put at least 30 hours into the game.

totally forgot those came out this year...guess pokemon diamonds my pick for pgoty

I would say it's a tie between Jeanne D'Arc, Castlevania Dracula X & LOZ Phantom Hourglass. I've gotta mention that the FF6 update for GBA was a nice sendoff game for a great system.

I feel like we need categories, there's quite a few to choose from.

Zelda, Etrian Odyssey, and Puzzle Quest all have my nomination, and Picross is so good I had to stop playing it because it just sucked my life away.

Haven't yet played Castlevania PSP, so I can't speak for it, although it's near the top of my want list, as is FFT PSP.

FF6A would get it... but goddamn the slowdown in the airship practically made me stop playing. It was tolerable with complex blitz/spells, but it's constant when flying. Ugh.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215
simply the best writen game i've ever played my entire life
(and i used to be an RPG junkie)

i was really impressed with how good of a game hotel dusk was
sure the puzzles could have been made a little better,
but overall the game is amazing

Really tough thread for me, because there are a few games that are relatively close to one another.

I'd have to say Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow on PSP. That game is too good and lots of fun. Online is extremely deep. One of the best experiences on any handheld IMO.

Runner up would be Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters for sure. Brave Story is my handheld RPG of the year (possibly my RPG of the year).

I haven't played many portable games this year but I'd have to say

Bleach: Blade of Fate (NDS)

I've been waiting so long for a legit 2-D fighting game on a portable and I got it. Great controls, tons of replay, fun mechanics.

Etrian Odyssey for me. Contra 4 is giving it a challenge, though.

It's giving me a challenge, too! :fridge:

the best portable game to come out this year was one of the first to be out:

Phoenix Wright 3 comes close

No fuckin' question -- Dracula X Chronicles. Dear God.

Close seconds are Phoenix Wright 2 and 3, Final Fantasy 6 Advance, and DJ Max Portable 2. Good year for portables.

oh shyt, Phoenix Wright 2 was released THIS year?!?!

man, then fuck a DJ Max 2... my portable game of the year is PW 2 and 3 COMBINED!!

unless that goes against the rules... in that case I stick with DJ Max 2

the difference between Phoenix Wright and DJ Max is

when u play Phoenix Wright, you only play it once but it leaves an impression on you forever!

when u play DJ Max, u play it forever!

My top three would be Jeanne D'Arc, Zelda PH, and Phoenix Wright 3 T&T. That's a hard one. I think I'd have to say Zelda for the way they handled the touch controls.

Hotel Dusk hands down. It's my overall game of the year as well for both home and portable consoles. I haven't been as attached to a character in gaming as I had with that game.

I really don't know. I got a PSP this year, so that was a lot of gaming goodness. If I had to choose one game overall, it'd be Ouendan 2, followed by Taiko no Tatsujin Touch de Tokodon on the DS as well, although I like the PSP iteration more.

Dracula X Chronicles. The reason I bought a PSP, and it's been in since the day it came out.

Hopefully it sold well enough for 2d Castlevania to be on the full size consoles again. :)

It'll be years before I even GET to all the games I want to play from this year, but my guesses are:

Logan's Shadow (Syphoon Filter) based on the first game being incredible, and this one supposed to be even better (and the demo was excellent).

Then possibly Zelda, although I haven't liked most of the portable Zeldas, and didn't like Twilight Princess all that much.

The Dracula X game of course (for Symphony of the Night if nothing else).

Tons of other games, I'm sure...
