When do you leave feedback as a seller? (related to a buyer I am dealing with)

Personally, I wait until everything is clear. I receive payment, the package is delivered (I check tracking every night), and a few days go by without the buyer complaining about something. I have never had any complaints at all. I don't "ransom" feedback, as some sellers do. I just want to make sure the whole thing goes smooth.

Today, I get a couple of messages from a buyer, bitching that he WANTS feedback immediately, because he already payed. I had to explain to him that I have to wait to see how the ENTIRE transaction goes. I say, "How would you like it if you sold something, left a positive feedback, and then got screwed by the buyer?" He hasn't responded to that one, yet.

I have a bad feeling that this will be my first negative experience with eBay. He just seems too anxious to get a positive, as if getting positive feedback will enable him to get away with something. I don't know what exactly he could possibly think he can do, but it just seems that way. I've never known a buyer, including myself, who really cares about feedback.

I don't leave feedback at all anymore unless I get feedback. I went through a period where I got retaliatory feedbacks on a couple of auctions as a buyer and I swore I'd never leave a feedback unless I got one first. Even if it was a great transaction.

I've been lucky I guess, I leave it right after I get paid. Or as a buyer right after I get the product, or use it to be sure it's as described.

Same here.

as a seller on ebay I leave feedback once everything is said and done, after a week or so of not hearing from someone, I'll usually send a polite e-mail asking if everything arrived ok, and if so please leave positive feedback. it usually works fine.

I just sold my first few items on eBay a month ago and I do what I always got as a buyer, I wait 'till they leave feedback first before I do so. Have they implemented the "seller can't leave feedback" thing yet? I always have something to say but don't because I don't want that negative feedback.

I don't leave feedback until they do me. If they are not able to take a few seconds, and leave feedback for me. I'm not going to take a few seconds, and leave feedback for them.

I used to do that, but I ran my old store's ebay and I got sick of asking 20 people every week to leave feedback.

I have about 560+ feedback, so my rule as a seller is...

If the buyer has a feedback rating lower than mine, I don't give feedback until he does.
If the buyer has a feedback rating higher than mine, I give feedback as soon as I get paid.

Haven't gotten burned yet.

I don't sell things on ebay, but if I did, I'd wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. If the item gets lost or damaged in the mail, or the buyer is trying to pull a scam, then you're out of luck. Leverage is leverage, minor or not, and you'll help others avoid that buyer if applicable.

I wait until the buyer has left feedback.

I never e-mail a buyer asking for feedback. If they don't leave it, no big whoop to me.

I've had one buyer ask me to leave feedback after they paid similar to the OP here. I politely explained that I wait until the entire transaction is complete and I know the buyer is happy (typically by them leaving me positive feedback) before leaving feedback myself. He grudgingly accepted that. I think your hypothetical question might PO some buyers, probably a bad thing to have included in your response.

The people I buy from tend to only leave me feedback once I left them positive saying the item arrived. o_O It seems fair to me.

As a seller I leave feedback when the buyer has left feedback for me.

As a buyer I leave feedback after I have received the item and had a chance to review it's quality.

Perhaps, but again, this was after a couple of messages of him/her basically demanding feedback immediately. It isn't something I would put out there automatically. My first messages were extremely polite, explaining my already established policy as laid out in the body of my auctions. I realize not everyone reads a sellers rules and such (though, they should), so I try to be as polite as possible at all times...but only up to a certain point.

Like I said, after my hypothetical question, the buyer didn't respond. Either, he's pissed, or he got the point. Like I said, I have a funny feeling that this guy will be an issue. He'll probably end up returning the item or something. I have had nothing but good experiences on eBay up until this point, so I wouldn't be surprised if I had run into a bad egg finally.
