When GI Joe Went Liberal

So, I was watching some old GI Joe episodes the other day, and came across some episodes I don't quite recall being so politically correct.

The traditional intro music was the same, but changed to remove sexist/pro-American themes (no US flags to be seen, the song referred to them as "International Heroes," and the line "he'll stay 'til the fight's won" was changed to "they'll").

It kinda jerked my attention away from my studies (I wasn't really paying attention to the show, I must admit).

At any rate, the first episode of this, "Operation Dragonfire," starts off with a bunch of GI Joe guys helping out poor villagers in a place that's supposed to be (I think) Tibet.

I actually turned the show off at this point (not because it was too PC for even me; you all should know that), so I didn't watch much else of it.

I did find this episode guide of the later GI Joe series available online: http://www.joeheadquarters.com/commentaries/opdragonfire.html

Evidently, I watched the hell out of this series, as I clearly remember thinking MetalHead was an awesome character, and Destro's Iron Grenadiers were pretty cool too. I just don't remember it being so bloomin' PC. I s'pose it's only a shock in the sense that the original series was extremely pro-American (else they wouldn't deserve the moniker "A Real American Hero!")

Here's the intro in question:

Does anyone remember this?

GI Joe were only "Real American Heroes" here in the States. Everywhere else they were known as "International Heroes".
Even the later episodes?
I'm not sure about that. I really only watched the Sunbow episodes and I don't know that I ever watched any of the Dic episiodes. They probably just changed the theme song so that it would be universal across all countries and they no longer said "Cobra" because the Joes were also fighting against "Destro's Iron Grenadiers" and other groups during those episodes.

So to answer your original question, I would guess they went liberal when Dic started making episodes.

What are you talking about? A "real american hero" today is someone who criticizes republicans and compares Bush to hitler.

You should be happy the enertainment industry is indoctrinating our youth to believe the millitary should be used for humanitarian aid. It's what we did all through the Clinton administration.

Y'know, bmug, whining because people dare criticize your Dear Leader isn't much of a tactic. How's about taking the criticism and either (a) refuting it or (b) accepting that a solid majority of Americans might have a point.

That's been the Bushies and the Republicans' main failing over the past six years -- rather than responding to and learning from criticism, they whine and humph that they shouldn't be criticized, ever. Oh, and then call Democrats and people who disagree with them "appeasers" and "sympathizers" and every other vile name in the book.

what a hypocrit. First, he blasts americans who criticize Bush. Then he goes ahead and criticizes Clinton.
