Where can I find a refurb 21" CRT?

Dezzy

CAGiversary!
My 21" Sony Trinitron is showing its age, so I'm looking to replace it. I don't want a LCD yet(can't find a good size S-IPS panel at a good price) and the azatek.com site changed, and doesn't have any CRTs right now.

Anyone know where I could find some high quality refurbs for below $200?

If you want to drive to North Carolina, I've got one for you.

But wow, I hadn't realized how difficult it's become to find a CRT.

You should check the freebies on craigslist. There's usually ones on there but the only problem is being the first there.

I bought an NEC FE2111sb (Diamondtron tube) off ebay over a year ago for $90 delivered and I'm in love with it. Best display device I've ever owned. I noticed a a guy with a few of these refurbs on there recently for around $100 delivered. Flat tube Trinitrons go for the same price.

The downside to buying big CRT monitors is that they quit making them a few years ago so anything you get will have 2-5 years of wear on it already. And the big tubes never seem to last as long as the small ones, before something electronic pops.

Good luck finding a quality CRT. They are still better than LCDs for color reproduction and a good black level, but geometry is not as good.

Old CRTs unfortunately may have problems with components drifting causing geometry problems. Plus, the flybacks are prone to failure...
