I've only had my PS3 for about two weeks and I already have 11GB "missing".

My system info shows 44/55GB.

All I have on my PS3:

-Resistance Save/Update (130MB+)
-The Darkness Save (2MB)
-Tekken 5: DR Saves + Download (700MB)

Also add in the firmware upgrades. What else could be taking up all that space?

Probably keeps it to help load times like the 360.

Ah, makes sense. I just didn't expect it to take up so much memory.

I don't know... that seems like a lot...

I recently put in a 120GB drive though.
But I don't remember my drive being down so much when I first had it fresh.

do you think I should put all my saves/downloads onto an SD card, then reformat?

I noticed I could copy my game saves to an SD card but not my downloads. Would I have to download T5DR all over again?

Yeah, I have about 9 games and I'm over 20GB...

I don't know if it's possible to avoid, but that's what I did when I put my 120GB in my 20GB PS3.

It took it a bit to redownload, but all is well, no hassles (other than taking the time to get the games back) and since I used my PSP's memory stick for saves.. I was only out a few hours prep and download time (crappy service around here, I guess.)

It's well worth slamming a larger HDD in the PS3... I no longer bother deleting demos until I'm done trying the game... (not for space reasons.) And it was $70 with shipping for the drive. Can't beat that with a stick..

I'm pretty sure Resistance saves some data to the harddrive to reduce load times. In the XMB, go to 'Games' then 'Game Data' (I think). Resistance saves something like 5GB IIRC.

I'll have to check that out. The only game data I had for Resistance (other than a regular game save) only took about 160MB or so. I could be wrong.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I actually have been thinking about putting a bigger HD in the PS3 sometime in the near future.

Its all taken up for the system the OS and other forms of system memory. When I got my 360 new with the 20GB HDD there was only 11GB available

Last night I was thinking that had to be it. I formatted the hard drive when I got it and checked to make sure nothing I wanted was still around.

The biggest thing on my HD is T5DR and the only install (in the Game Utility) I noticed was Resistance which was 150-170MB.

I also saw this picture (3rd Pic):

After replacing their HD, it looks like they were already down 14GB
