Ok well im looking for a loan to buy a used car. Im tired of my old shitty lumina so i want to do a quick upgrade. Im looking for a 7k loan. I want to do like $200 monthly payments.

Where would be the best place to get this loan. So far the only place ive checked is eloan.com. Is there any better? I checked a few banks online and their rates seem higher.

any suggestions?

interesting let me check.

What type of rate did you get? Sucks that the rate is higher when purchasing from a private party rather then a dealer

Does it hurt to apply for the loan just to see if you get approved?

Check whatever bank you use.

Not really, but the request for approval will show up on your credit report activity. If you shop for approvals at several places may find rejections because banks (or their computers) will begin to see the other requests and flag you negatively.

Dude 7K for a car!!!!!! Save up and pay CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Free yourself from the monthly payment mentality in America which IMO is nothing more but a rat race!!!

Do you realize how long it would take the OP to save up 7K if he's only able to afford 200 a month on a car payment?

OP, check with your local banks, especially smaller branches. Oftentimes the smaller the bank, the better the rate (because they need/want business).

uh, would you shut the hell up. Some people can't even save 1k. If he were going for like a 2,000 dollar car then I'd agree with you, but for 7k, he'll need a loan.

yea lol... the only reason im even considering this is that i know a person selling a used eclipse 01 with less than 40k miles for 7.5 mint. Its not that i cant afford more than $200 a month but i pay allot of other shit too.

The cars worth more than that (about 9 or 10) so i just thought i should take advantage

Hopefully you won't be spending extra money getting the transmission repaired soon afterwards. But less than 40k miles on a 01 car is pretty damn good. Hell my parents 01 Taurus only has about 35k on it...

funny someone told me about the transmission probs but i thought it was only with the rs models or earlier year models...dunno..

People are easily offering him more than 9 for it. its the premium version too.. leather, sunroof etc

Yeah, all Eclipse model years are very notorius for having tranny problems. Personally, I wouldn't want one any newer than the redesign in about 00. Just looks bad plus they stopped using the 4G63 engine completley in them now.

I know a decent amount about the Eclipse, as I used to want a GSX with a passion. Just enough to scrape by though. As of the past few years, I've wanted a 89-93 Nissan 240SX (no I'm not a wagon hopper, I've been wanting one before idiots were like "cool, an I can put an SR20DET engine in this thing!!!11!!"). If I had the money, I wouldn't mind show horning in an RB26DETT

If the car only has 40K miles and has automatic transmission just do a transmission flush (about $150 at a dealer) and gets rid of all the 10-14 Qts of oil your transmission holds and change the filter as well if you have one. If a manual just do a drain and fill (about $40-50 at a dealer). That way you shouldn't have transmission problems. Also, remember that 01 Eclipse is mostly a Chrysler vehicle anyway. Look under the hood if you don't believe me half all the parts have Mopar written on them.

You're right. Though its not a DSM (Diamond Star Motors) engine. I think they stopped using those in the mid/late 90s. I think the only DSM engines wre used in the GST and GSX. As for the tranny flush, you should do that irregardless. I forget what the problem with the trannys are, but its got nothing to do with routine flushing.

Guyver, what trim model is it? GS, RS, GT? If you do plan to mod it, its not really worth it to do it with the RS and GS

Gt model..

Im not even sure about going for it or not.. i mean its not exactly that new but it looks in great shape

Its automatic but supposedly has an option for manual (not sure what that means. the stick looks weird)

kbb gives it a value of 9.5-10.5

The GT model is good. The only thing I can think of for a "manual option" is sequential shifting. Which I seriously doubt it has. I'm not trying to steer you away from it at all. Ask him if he can let you take it to a reputable mechanic or the dealer for a once over. Or if you have a friend that does it for a living, take him with you to look over it. If the blue book its 9.5-10.5, you might want to get it looked at first.

This might help you a little too:

I've used them several times to look up stuff about car ratings
Just buy New and save yourself from the headache of someone else's problems......
If the OP is in college, buying new would seriously screw him over financialy
try small local credit unions, they usually have decent rates.
Some require you to be a member of their credit union first though

Try to keep it in good condition and keep the miles as low as possible if you plan to trade it in in about two years
