I'm willing to bet that, even though we are CAG's, some of us will buy at least one of these titles at or near retail price. Please assume that these will all be released this year.

Probably GTA just because by default there are more PS2s out there than Xboxes for Halo 2.

Even though I want Halo 2 to win. :)

of course its gonna be GTA everyone and their mother will get that game, it may not compare too halo 2 but its more popular mainstream whise

I'm pulling for Halo 2 to be GOTY. And for the record, I'm damn near certain that Halo 2 will be better than Half-Life 2, but that's also just my opinion.

Im getting all of those on launch day except for Doom 3. San Andreas will be great because I love exploring and what not. Halo 2 coop will be great, then LAN parties in the following weeks, and I will get Halflife 2 collectors edition, I cant wait to make some maps for multi.

I'm gonna get all except Halo 2 at release (I hated Halo), but one of the console ones will sell most, as most people do not have a PC that can run Doom or HL. I want HL to win badly though.

I'm not a big GTA fan but since it is the only item on the list that will eventually be on all three systems (PS2, Xbox, PC) it has a big advantage in long-term sales potential. The other three promise to be big PC and Xbox hits but are unlikely to appear on PS2, especially, of course, Halo 2.

Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 will be the better games, but GTA:SA will sell so goddamn much.

I'm not going to get it all until it hits 20 bucks. Then it's still only a possibility.

I'll say GTA:SA. It's my favorite style of gameplay, and it's just revolutionary. What else is there to say? I'll probably get halo 2 as well, but nothing is more exciting to me than GTA:SA this year.

Im sure GTA will sell the most, though Im sick of Grand Theft Auto and dont plan on buying it. Of those games Im very intrested in Halo 2(which I bet will get GotY), and somewhat intrested in Half Life 2.

I've already preordered Halo 2 LE ($55 retail) and Fable ($50 retail) for $87.58 shipped. Thats about.. $10 off each? Not bad.

Halo 2 is probably better but GTA will probably sell more. It will be THE killer app for Xbox Live though.

This is not even a contest. Look at the sales figures. The only thing that can compare to GTA in sales is SMB3

I need a stick of RAM before I get DOOM 3 and HL2, but I am going to say they will be better games. Halo 2 will collapse under the hype, and without the 80's theme GTA probably will not recieve the play that Vice City did.

I played through Halo several times(7-9) and I think the new one looks shitty. Every trailer they show makes me more and more disappionted. The killer app will end up being Timesplitters:Future Perfect. The fact that you can make your own maps, and the silky smooth frame rate will prove that the old Goldeneye team still knows how to make a Multiplayer game better than just about anyone.

and on the GOTY subject it will either be those two PC games or Metal Gear Solid 3. It seems to get no press and no hype, but the game is going to blow everyone away when it comes out. Sam Fisher will crap his pants when he finds out that Solid Snake is out to reclaim the title of top tactical espionage action game(although Chaos Theory does look really good as well)
It gets no hype and no press because they never really say much about it, at least not anything new.
There were a lot of things in the recent Gamepro article that I had not read anywhere else.

I think GTA:SA will sell the most at first, but a halo 2 will dominate in that long run.

I'm going to say halo 2, only because there seems to be 100's of copies on pre-order all over the place. I think GTA will lose some of it's shine the 3rd time around, plus people may wait for the xbox or PC version of GTA:SA.

HL2 and doom3 have specs that are way too high for alot of gamers. Plus they may not pan out as good games.

Gonna go ahead and restate the obvious that GTA:SA will win based on sheer userbase numbers. X-Box user are a tiny fraction of the number of PS2 owners. The number of people with computers souped up enough to play Doom 3 / Half-Life 2 decently are also small potatoes in comparison.

As much as I want to like TS, they use the same stupid control thing where your head tilts, and that just ruins it for me, still entertaining games, but nowhere near halo level. Those controls were great in Golden Eye and Perfect Dark, but now they are just horrible. Also playing a FPS on a console is horrible anyway, I use to not think that until I bought a top of the line computer. I will still love halo 2 and get it on xbox, but playing FPS on computer is so much better, not to mention almost every computer game has a level editor. HL2 will live up to the hype even though we thought it would be out last year. GTA SA I think will still be as good as Vice City, even though the 80's music made that game great, I think SA can do the same with some of the early 90s music.

oh fuk Halo 2. it looks like more of the same, plus online for Xbox.

i've been waiting and waiting for a FPS single player experience as good as the first Half-Life. i can't WAIT for Half-Life 2.

doesn't mean i don't want Halo 2, i really want it, but HL was so much more fun than Halo.

and San Andreas looks like it's going to be better and longer than ever, probably sell the most too. people love being violent, i do too.

Doom 3, meh, awesome graphics. i don't see how great it can be though.

Timesplitters 2 was decent, but from what I saw of the new one it just looked like it 1up'ed everyone. The lack of a game with a level editor was one of my biggest knocks aganist Xbox Live and console online games in general. And the control in those old N64 shooters is bad, but they did well with what was available.

And yes PC shooters are superior to console shooters, but not everyone has access to an expensive console. I personally would be a console gamer if MS released a keyboard and mouse combo.
I think GTA:SA will sell the most at first, but a halo 2 will dominate in that long run.
I think you have that backwards. Halo will not jump ship to the PS2, but it's obvious that more likely than not Xbox owners will end up seeing GTA:SA appear on thier console as well.
Thus, eventually having 2 console bases to sell to, GTA:SA will sell better over the long term than Halo 2.

I fucking hate GTA. THe first one was a new decent idea...but it so fucking played out now.

Ok, one more time! Do the missions from the first GTA with a different backdrop! Wheeee!

Not to mention now that every other game is a free roaming 3rd person.

Without a doubt it will be GTA: san andreas. Everybody who has a PS2 will most likely get it and there are more people that has a PS2 than an Xbox. So that is why Halo 2 will come in second instead of first, even though if they came out with PC versions of both of these games.
without the 80's theme GTA probably will not recieve the play that Vice City did.
Uhmm, GTA3 didn't have the 80's theme and got huge sales and play. It doesn't need the 80's theme. Personally I think the series is handsdown the most overrated series in this generation and don't really enjoy them.. but GTA:SA is going to sell like hotcakes, no questions asked.

And Metal Gear Solid 3 is going to be a tremendous stretch to get GOTY, the stealth genre is extremely overpopulated, a goodly portion of the playing community doesn't enjoy MGS's overly-convoluted plot lines, not to mention a game of nothing but "repeat level until you memorize every guard" gameplay.

And... we're ignoring Fable. September 2004 release date right now, and IF it lives up to its hype, it could sell a ton of Xboxes, much less the game itself.

I love how people hate on Halo just because it's a popular game and give no valid reasons as to why it isn't good.

Way to go you rebels you, you hate the game everyone else loves.

Your "Big" list is much different than mine would have been. I wouldn't have put PC games in a poll. They don't stand a prayer against console games in sheer numbers. The hardware specs alone are huge hurdles for those two games.

The biggest games this year for consoles; GTA: SA, MGS 3, MP 2 and Halo 2.

There's your list. Order of finish in sales... GTA: SA, Halo 2, MGS 3, MP 2.

It's alll about the user base and the PS2 kills everyone. The attach rate for Halo 2 will be through the roof so MGS 3 will come in behind it. The Cube has the smallest user base so it's best title, by default, will come in fourth in that list.

If the installed base were identical 3rd and 4th could flip flop but the first two remain the same.

Gran Turismo 4 should be added to that list for biggest console games...but anyways GTA is probably gonna sell more, itll be close between that and Halo 2.

Out of those, obviously GTA because there are so many more PS2s than XBoxs out, but looking into the crystal ball I'm gonna say ESPN NFL 2K5 will be by far the best selling title of 2004. I was at EB games on Wednesday and it was flying off the shelves.

shoot yeah, cant believe no one thought of gran turismo 4 before darth up there. thats called selling a PS2 to everyone that still doesnt have one.
