Which of the EDF games is superior?

I've heard a lot of good things about the EDF series, and I'd like to try one out during this lull of releases. I've heard good and bad things about each game, but no clear indication of whether 2017 or Insect Armageddon is better. I can get Insect Armageddon for $20 on eBay or buy 2017 for $20 through the Xbox Marketplace, so price isn't really the issue, I just want to know which game is more fun.

Also, I would be playing the game solo, and I'm not opposed to going back and replaying levels to get better weapons/upgrade armor (as I understand that's a major component of both of these games...?)

Solo? I would say Insect Armageddon since you get AI support then. The first game gets BRUTAL on higher difficulties by yourself.
 
I rented Insect Armageddon from Redbox the other night. It was really fun both single and multiplayer. At first it felt like all I was doing was constantly reloading my gun, but as you upgrade you'll get much higher capacity weapons that make it pure awesome.

I doubt you'll find it for $20 on bBay though, the guy offering it for $20 BIN was just a BS code for 15 weapons. Best deal for it is probably Amazon for $29.99.

I'm currently looking for 2017 on the cheap, my son was a bit scared by all of the giant insects from the new one (he's almost 5), apparently a higher percentage of robot killing is what he would prefer. Funny how a $20 budget game is rarer/more expensive than just about every AAA title that came out at the same time.
 
Insect Armageddon has the whole online co-op thing going for it, but I feel like I enjoyed 2017 more. Insect Armageddon doesn't feel as epic.
 
I felt like the scale was larger in 2017. Also you always felt like you were leveling and you wanted to level. in IA you are grinding and grinding for nothing until you hit a level and you are suddenly a bit more badass. So...I prefer 2017 but I do like IA.
