Which PSP to buy?

I make no apologies about it- I'm a Nintendo fanboy. But that doesn't mean there aren't other good games and systems out there. Now that I'm 5 years late to the party, it's time to get a PSP. Games are dirt cheap, for the most part: I've spent about $200 and picked up around 25 of the system's best games. The system is as cheap as it's going to get- resting around the $100 range.

So, which model should I go after:

1) What's the difference between the 3000 and 3001- is one just Japan and the other US?

2) The 3000 is the newest but there's quite a few stories about how while the screen is brighter, it also has some artifact issues. And a shorter battery life? Geez, Sony- you really did succeed in your attempt to make Game Gear 2? So, is the 2000 what I want to aim for- finding one with full battery life now is probably a chore.

3) Any special editions that are reasonably priced and look good? The Metal Gear Solid green one seems to only add $30ish to the cost on Amazon and it looks pretty good for a 3000. I'd love a Squeenix one but the Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts ones seems to command a $100+ premium and that's just not worth it to me.

Also, I'm curious about my games list works, too- what I'm missing, for instance. I know a couple of those on the have list were GS B2G1 fillers so they were sub-optimal :)

For the record, here's the have list so far:
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Portable
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Football Manager 2011 (Import)
LocoRoco 2
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Limited Edition
LocoRoco
Lumines
Me & My Katamari
Metal Gear Acid 2
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Limited Edition)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus
Patapon
Patapon 2
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 Innocent Sin
Star Ocean: First Departure
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
The 3rd Birthday
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Wipeout Pure
Yggdra Union

And here's what's on the "to get" list for games:
Daxter
Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
God of War: Chains of Olympus
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
LittleBigPlanet
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
Metal Gear Acid
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable
Sid Meier's Pirates
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Valkyria Chronicles II

Anything I should add to the "want" list? Or even subtract ("nah, that's not worth it"- sort of thing)

Yes. Last digit in Sony console model numbers is always the country code. Mind you PSP games are all region free so they will work on any PSP. Only UMD movies have a region lock on them.

I'd get the PSP 3000, much better screen than the previous models. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

PSP-3000
In comparison to the PSP-2000, the PSP-3000 (marketed in PAL areas as "PSP Slim & Lite (with enhanced screen + built in microphone)" and still marketed as PSP in North America and Japan) has an improved LCD screen featuring an increased color range, five times the contrast ratio, half the pixel response time to reduce ghosting and blurring effects, new sub-pixel structure, and anti-reflective technology to improve outdoor playability. The disc tray, logos, and buttons have all been redesigned and the system now has a microphone. In addition, all games may now be output by component or composite using the video out cable.[75]
In its first four days on sale, the PSP-3000 sold 141,270 units in Japan, according to Famitsu.[76] In October 2008, the PSP-3000 sold 267,000 units in Japan, according to Enterbrain.[77]

The PSP 3000 doesn't have a shorter battery life (see the Wikipedia article) and the screen is beautiful on it. It's so vibrant and colorful. I've never seen a 2000 in person so I can't say anything about it's screen. But compared to the 1000 the difference was significant and worth upgrading.

Remove the first dissidia since you already have the 012 version which includes the originals story plus the new ones. Unless you just want the first one for collectors sake.

You definitely need FF4 the complete collection and Jeanne D'Arc. My 2 favorite games for the PSP. Sorry if I missed them on the list

Did not know that. Thanks

Heard that about Jeanne D'Arch.

I already have so many copies of FF4 (SNES, PSX, GBA, DS) but it is my favorite FF

If you like action-rpg genre (like Diablo), consider Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. It's a fun game with a lot of depth, loot, and exploration.

Honestly I found Final Fantasy: Crisis Core to be extremely disappointing. It has nice graphics and typical FF story, but the "action RPG" gameplay is very boring. There wasn't much strategy involved and power ups are literally determined by a slot machine. I'm more of the fan of the classic turn-based RPGs. Apparently a lot of people loved this game but I have a feeling it was more for the story / graphics than gameplay.

Since you seem to like RPGs here's a few more I'd recommend:

Crimson Gem Saga
Lunar Silver Star Harmony (only worth getting if you never played previous versions, though)
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time (coming in July 24th; previous games in the series were the best Stategy RPGs I have ever played)

and Jeanne D'Arc
