I just got my DS today, and it had a dead pixel  . I've read on their website that Nintendo will fix your DS for free, and I've heard of people sending theirs in.
How fast did you get it back?
When you got it back, was it fixed (and were you relieved)?
Did they acutally FIX your DS, or just send you a new one?
Also, what was the general process like?
Looks like I'm going to be doing this soon. Feel free to add any other details. Thanks all.
wouldnt it be quicker to just return to where u got it?
Got it via an independant retailer through Amazon :( , so no.

damn, they do.......i dont know how well thats going to work out for them but hey, they are dealing with it, and well it sounds like.

Me and 6 friends all got one but nobody had dead pixles, one of my stupider friends did roll over his while sleeping and it wasn't folded up..............luckily for him, it just cracked the gba solt, and slightly. He can still get games in and out easily.

Okay, this isn't quite what you asked but I just dealt with a similar situation. I got an iPAQ a couple of weeks ago and was quite happy with it. Then one night I noticed a dead pixel. "Damn" I thought. I really like this thing but I didn't think I could live with this little orange speck. I didn't want to take it back to CC because it was the last one there (and in a matter of three days I got it $30.00 off retail and a $50.00 GC). I decided to see what HP would do for me instead. They were very helpful and offered to replace the screen. They claimed it would be only 3-5 business days. I didn't believe that would happen but felt more comfortable dealing with them. I gave them my OK. That was a Sunday night. The sent an email showing the tracking number of the box they had overnighted for me for a Tuesday delivery. The box showed up on time and I called DHL to pick up my iPAQ the next day. They picked it up Wednesday but dropped the ball and didn't get it to Houston until Friday. Now here's the best part. HP got the thing on Friday, replaced the LCD, and shipped, it out the same day. I received my package on Saturday morning. I was very impressed.

Well that happened at the gamestop, that I often go to. They replace it for him. But the had to pretty much field destory it( I think, they marked it off as defective). They could not fix that one pixel. They had to put in a new screen. And they said it was not worth mailing it back to coperate because they can't do anything about it.

HP/Compaq treats their customers very very well. A my last job we were an all compaq / hp shop, and we never had any problems with them. They would overnight us any part that went bad, and would even take care of some machines that were out of waranty.

can anyone else confirm this? I have the same problem and was wondering how Nintendo handles this issue.

Why don't you call nintendo and ask them?

CONFIRMED.

Nintendo is and always has standed behind their products. I believe what they will do is give a 7 days window to get your current DS out to them. Then its a simple switch.

Like it was posted earlier you call them
They send out the NEW DS
You package your DS in their package... No charger, games, stylus, instructions.
You send your OLD DS back to them.
And obviously you are left with a brand new DS.

If you were to say try to keep both then you are charged for the second one. I think they take a credit card for this reason but that part I am unsure about.

But yes its all over that Nintendo will do this heck jump on Nintendo.coma nd look around I am sure its there. They aknowledged that some DS might have dead pixels. Its somehwat common for this type of screen.

I am glad to hear youfinally got one. I was one of people that thought I could line one up for you but then a family member passed and the holidays hit. I just didnt have time to get back to you.

Are you sure about that? Nintendo had me send in my DS (cracked screen) before they sent me back one. Still, I got it 2 days after shipping it out, so I'm not complaining.

:!: wow, thanks for noticing... i thought no one would even notice... you don't realize how happy i was when I got mine. geeze... I spent over 3 months tracking this down and it consumed a bit of my time. again, thanks for noticing.

I can also confirm; I've done it. They do take your credit card info, but WILL ONLY charge if they don't get the dead-pixeled unit back. It was a very smooth process; the Nintendo rep was very friendly. I actually got the unit within 1-2 days (they're in Washington, I'm in California). They pay for postage and everything (they include a UPS shipping label/box), and everything went swimmingly.

One thing I asked was if you get a new unit or a refurbished one. Their response was both, since they have to test the unit (so they don't send you one w/dead pixels or other problems). So the DS I got was one of the earlier units, from the NU1 batch. I compared the two when I had both, and besides less clicky shoulder buttons (a common thing for the NU1 batch), the replacement was flawless.
