Am I violating the policy? I see people selling cheat devices and they don't close down their auctions?

Because you said like. By using gameshark, people when searching for gameshark will find your auction, and will be frustrated with that.
I think everyone does that, but I think I violated "mod-chips" Ebay policy....
I do it too, but using like is against their rules. 1 out of 10 of my auctions gets closed, but hey, you get your listing fee back.

email them and tell them u don't understand why and they will specifically tell you why in "real english" not complicated policy english

Okay, if that's the case, I'll take out the "like" and try to put the auction back on again. Can I use the word "similar to"?? Thanks for your help.

Truthfully I don;t think they took it down because of like. It says he violated The mod chip policy. I would email them and ask exactally why the took it down.

Jeff

It's kind of strange. Everyone is selling Action Replay, CodeBreaker and Game Shark and I don't think anything happen to them???

I don't think the device is illegal since they do sell them in Best Buy and other stores. Maybe it's just illegal in Ebay????

yes ask them they will tell you in easy english. I found out one of my auctions was in violation of 4 ebay policies!!

So Mod Chips, Game Enhancers, and Boot Discs are a big no-no, but selling bootleg copies of *.* is a-ok!

"$9.99 copy of Aria of Sorrow from HK - pass"
"$20.00 copy of SNK vs Capcom for the Neo - check"
"$5 DVD 6-disk Cowboy Bebop Box set - mkay"
"Gameshark? Mod-chip? CANCEL NOW!"

Feh.

As far as I know, there are no laws specific to eBay... but of course this company is free to set its own policy.

It's legal to buy and sell these devices, but they can be used for illegal purposes (even ones which should be legal - do a little reading on the Digital Millennium copyright act).

Do you really think eBay has millions of employees researching every single item?

I'd also avoid the word 'cheat.' 'Enhancer' is a better euphemism less likely to be caught by their filters to be examined by a human auditor.

This is strange, but I've sold a ton of gamesharks and action replays on Ebay last year. Not one of the auctions got me that message until I sold one for the Gamecube. All the others were for the PS2. Maybe it's got something to do with Nintendo.

Nope, and I don't expect them too check every auction either. But when it's brought to their attention, and the sellers are actually relatively few in number, it doesn't take much to shut down the accounts of bootleggers, at least for a while. If I can run accross them easily, and repeatedly while searching for a few items, they surely can too.

A while back, I had people printing posters out of images from a site I run and selling them on eBay. I gave eBay every bit of information they needed and clearly proved they were my property. They told me to shove it, more or less. If they can take the time to look into my case, they can clearly look into other, more obvious cases too.

Thanks for all of your advice. I wrote to Ebay but don't know if they write back. If they don't reply by the end of the week, I'll try to put up an auction up without the word "cheat" or "like".

If I hear from them, I'll post it in here.

I'm not sure if they will reply, but I think this is your answer - Link

If that link doesn't work:

I think you fall under "Game Enhancers", which to ebay is the same as supporting illegal boot discs. Go figure eBay putting 1 and 1 together and getting "assisting illegal bootlegging" >< I agree they are getting pressured by Nintendo.
